well, to me, a shot of a guy suggesting he wants a hooker to go down on him by provocatively poiting in the direction of his crotch is pretty blatant... they got away with that, so it seems plausible the white substance is definitely "manjuice" =P

but if the prostitute didn't want to do it (hense all the saddness and stuff) why would they be showered in it?

I mean look at my sig... that proves the semen theory
![]() this song has something to with prostitution... "My love grew when we couldn't meet My heart ached because my voice didn't reach you I found I couldn't go back to the times When I had not known you." Well, I know the song isn't really about prostitution but that would be awesome... like a hidden meaning ![]() |

Also he didn't point to his crotch .. he pointed for her to get up and dance ... that's why she got up and ... danced.

I think it's white paint. That's suppose to purify her.
If it was semen then I don't think Ayu would want to purify herself all over with white semen. She just wants to be a good girl mmkay ![]() |

*Shrug* I know that the lyrics don't have anything to do with prostitution in the least. Hamasaki discussed her motivations for writing these lyrics in the interview she did with beat freak ONLINE. Moreover, I doubt the whole being covered in semen bit would be allowed by either ayu or avex... Even if ayu wanted to overpower them (she does make up at least 30% of the revenue for the company) there is a big possiblity that people would be horribly offended, so they wouldn't do so. At least, that's my opinion. The purity bit gets my vote. I really couldn't see ayu dipping her hands in paint and letting it drop to symbolize anything else. O_O

LOL that whte think reminds me of the same white thing in the misia's ESCAPE PV.The difference is the BoY looks like milk and the one in misias looked like a pigeon poop (white with a bit more solid consistency)

The liquid is white wash, which is like white paint. It's supposed to symbolize purity. I highly doubt she wanted people to think it was semen. It was obvious to me the first time I watched the PV, becuase the white wash 'cleanses' the prostitutes, etc.

At first I thought it was paint, but my friend suggested that it might be liquid latex, which I think seems to make more sense if they are playing with it like that. It's not exactly very safe to play with paint, and it's also kinda hard to clean up...
As for the symbolic meaning, I think it's supposed to represent the process of cleansing and not semen. And it's definitely not real semen as some seemed to have suggested... That's just gross, and semen is not that white anyways. |

Doesn't Ayu have an attraction towards whiteness though? Was stated somewhere that she liked to collect all things white for her room o_0? So Maybe there's a relation . . .

I decided to do a look up on what colors mean, and this is what I found for white:
White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection. White means safety, purity, and cleanliness. As opposed to black, white usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning. In heraldry, white depicts faith and purity. In advertising, white is associated with coolness and cleanliness because it's the color of snow. You can use white to suggest simplicity in high-tech products. White is an appropriate color for charitable organizations; angels are usually imagined wearing white clothes. White is associated with hospitals, doctors, and sterility, so you can use white to suggest safety when promoting medical products. White is often associated with low weight, low-fat food, and dairy products. White means mourning in China and Japan. To "whitewash" is to gloss over defects or make something seem presentable that isn't. This can all be found here. So, one can get from this meaning that the girls are being covered with white to be purified. The video is dirty, yeah, but because it's in a place where innocence has been lost. The scene with the child's toys encased within the glass, the white color, the oldschool anime, all pure things which represent innocence. The loss of innocence in a world full of hookers dancing for money. The girls being covered in white - "whitewash" Read the lyrics, it's all about mourning the moment she met this person, wishing she could go back to not knowing them, wishing she could go back to being innocent. "I found I couldn't go back to the times When I had not known you" But of course that's all my opinion, except for the color meanings, which aren't really opinion. So take it as you will. |

i agree with sleeping child..i think the white liquid does have something to do with purification(though i originally thought the liquid is ayu's tears). Anyway, i don't think ayumi will be that disgusting..

I totally think that it's meant as a symbolism for whitewashing the prostitutes of what they do for a living and what their lives have become, but even I have to admit that it looks ALOT like semen. *shrug*

I'm sure it was meant to be controversial, why else make it so blatant characteristic of semen

Ayu (or her directors) love to play with contradictory, ambiguous stuff. If anyone remember the WHATEVER PV, the song has lyrics about hope and a good message but the PV shows despair, hopelessness, and that's not worth fighting for your goals. Ayu has a serious expression and does not blink the whole video. The PV is completelly contradictory with the lyrics. But not only the PV. The M version of WHATEVER (the one played in the PV) also has a macabre melody. The intention was obviously to make it contradictory.
So I wouldn't be surprised if the intention on Because of you was to make that thing ambiguous. A contrast between purity or dirtiness (depending on what the person who's watching will interpret the video) the anime in black and white, contrasting colors. Maybe the intention was truly to make it ambiguous, contradictory in order to shock but also not to shock because it's all up to your own interpretation in the end. The lyrics itself kida seem to have contradictory stuff on them when Ayu says: My eyes met yours again, we talked a little My heart throbbed and I hid my feelings behind a smile As I was afraid I might not be able to go back to the times When I had not known you Kinda contrasts with: I can't think of anyone but you I can't think of anyone but you
