People can easily sell over a million because not many people know about the internet and there are not much sharing going on. That's why even Ayu's single "M" and a few other hit the million mark. Her albums were selling like hotcakes....up to even 4 million copies. But now, the music industry has become different and a million IS alot!
Some poor artist can easily sell more than 500.000 copies (in a small country)... Even in 2004 with peer to peer and piracy...

So i don't think that internet downloading is an excuse for low sales. The sales dropped about 25% (in France, since 2000) i don't know how many percent for japan. But even if the sales has dropped by 25%, 1.250.000 [1.000.000 + 25%] for a 130 millions ppl country it's poor for a greatest artist like ayu.

Britney Spears barely broke 300,000 first week with "My Prerogative" in the US. We also have to factor in the shrinking Japanese industry (many other artists have had poor sales: Hikaru Utada's SINGLE COLLECTION sold 2.8 million, which is poor since Best collections sell very well in Japan, and her Dareka single broke 300,000. Even L'arc~en~ciel's SMILE sold far below from the platinum status they usually get)

my story sells 38,792 units this week and total sales add up to 998,140
it may be not a good sales for ayu as a top1 jpop queen
compared with hirai ken over 1,500,000, and orange range ,over 2,000,000
but anyway, support ayu forever...

The sales could be better, it seems, but I'm still pleased she's now sure to sell more than 1 million. If she hadn't managed that it would have been...not good.

oh man, I really thought she would break 1,000,000 this week. Oh well, 1 more week to wait haha. I wonder how long it took Memorial Address to break 1,000,000. Also, Ayu has been around for nearly 7 years and Orange Range has been around for what, 3 years? I really wonder how long their popularity will last and how long it will take before people get tired of them.
