Was she even there? I mean. She never goes to these award things. Award shows for the fans by the fans' votes. Seems rather selfish of her to not take one night to do a show even if she doesn't win.

so basically ... if a fan voted for it and really wanted her to get something she'll reject it because she doesn't want it? so she's rejecting something from her fans?

also .. just because she doesn't want to win doesn't mean she would win if she participated.

oh, sakurairo maukoro is amazing. i love inspire too, but it has a very alternative concept and it was not made to be an award winner.

Wow, I can't believe how many people are overreacting this much to Ayumi's loss. She's won awards for years now, even years when she probably shouldn't have won. Let someone else have a chance, geez. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that INSPIRE wasn't the best PV (in fact, I really disliked the PV and the song).

As for Ayumi declining awards, I really don't think that should affect a fan's vote. I hope people aren't assuming that Mika won by default because that's unfair to her. I don't know about MTV Japan but our MTV actually has accountants from PWC tally the votes to find out who really won and would not just go, "Well, the real winner didn't want the award, let's just say [name] won." I believe there must be rules against that sort of thing and there should be an announcement following a refusal of award acceptance.

Frankly I thought INSPIRE was the best out of the lot... and my friend thought it would win too even though she seems to like Mika more... but I'm glad for Mika anyway because her PV was great as well

I'm not surprised with this result. "INSPIRE" PV isn't a greatest one. It would be better, if another PV was nominated.

Well Inspire wasn't that great... though it was not the worst. However it was simply a pv with only dancing and no real plot.

I don't think it's about Ayu always winning and her not letting the other artists getting a chance to win too. Because Ayu DO deserve the awards she had won over the pass years. Ayu worked hard for the awards she got. Maybe the other artists didn't worked hard enough? Or maybe it just wasn't simply better than what Ayu did? Well this time, Ayu was the one who didn't worked hard enough on the INSPIRE video. That's why she didn't won. Mika PV was obviously better than Ayu.

While I see where you're coming from, the Japanese award shows are (seemingly) solely based on popularity, even more so than the American ones. There are years where a more deserving person lost because Ayumi had better press or for any number of random reasons. In this particular case, the MTV Japan Awards are based solely on popularity because the fans vote.

But really, the point that I wanted to get across more than all the musical politics is this: it's not the end of the world because Ayumi lost.
