But the pv is actually very different and interesting. I thought the same too, the white ayu reminds me of madonna.

i think this PV reflect entirely about ayu's life.. from her becoming a singer from jus an innocent girl. immediately after she became big.. the music company just treated her like a machine to earn more money. and when she grows, the music company tries to produce more of such "machines" and finally ayu was replaced. she was dumped but the spirit is still there as we can see she is still singing and alive at the rubbish chute.. the 3 clowns were bigger in size than ayu. this represent that the company took control over her.. my interpretation ahhaha..

and anyway about the boy peeping the girl's undies, i thikn it represents the fact that such stuff are the demands from the audience? or maybe this just shows the negative effects brought by the media industry over the years.. ???

i think it's totally awesome! i really think it reflects her life and how hard it is to become a superstar. everything from wanting to become a singer from pressure from her record company.

i like the song too. but i gotta listen to it w/o the video.

That PV kinda creeped my out a bit. When she was in all white she looked like Madonna. I guess the main clown guys are supposed to be avex and the doll making machines where trying to make a resemblence to ayu to trhough ayu off or sumthin. It was REALL REALLY WEIRD.

The video is indeed extremely different. Yea it has similar elements of previous PV's, but its an entirely new creation. It sorta reminds of me of videos that Rob Zombie, TooL, or even Modest Mouse would do (Or listed earlier, Franz Ferdinand). IMO its a great video. Shocking, yet interesting. And for what it represents, I think it was portrayed perfectly. Such a creative idea to show how things really are.

As for the song. I love it. I think its *******ing awesome!

hm i guess i'm late on this, but i am quite impressed.

the song was way way way way better than fairyland, and it just may be on my list of "one of my top favorite sognS"..and the PV itself, wow. it's along the lines of OURSELVES!!! i am so glad it's not standin around looking weird like "aobut you" and "game". of course it was just expressing how she felt like a product being sold, and getting thrown out in the end, and she did it in the..best possible way in my opinion. the video is pretty much incredible and theres nothing negative i can saya bout it (other htan YOU ARE THE STARS). i don't understand how people can "hate" it and "love" her other (more boring) stuff. this was very well put together in my opinion.

bottom line, this pv was the bomb. the song was the bomb. i wasnt even expecting ihalf this much from her recent releases.

The pv is a story of an artists's career. Ayu is discovered and "goes tot eh city", etc. Her career is like a circus cause it's ridiculous, people trying to control her, etc. everyone is like a puppet being manipulated by the industry. she is comparing herself to a "singing machine" that the company is using to make money. her whole career is on a pedestal for everyone to view like a show.

But anyways, when I first saw it I immediately thought along the terms on what jerms said. [though i read his synopsis after watching] and it's a very [obviously] surreal PV with many deep meanings behind it although the main idea is what jerms said

Oh and, I LOVE the song...although there is a lack of a bridge -le sigh- the altered bridge-like chorus satisfies me enough.

The whole pv is quite misleading and I don't seemed to understand what's going on with it.
Some of the scenes I think parental guidance is needed, especially at the end part, where ayu is been CUTTED or CHOPped into pieces of corpses..... that's sick.... What's going on... I hope FAIRYlaND will not be something like this , shocking , hideous....

Anyways. What suprised me the most is that I actually like the song O_O It's really, really good! But, I thought the video wasn't as good as it could be. The 'meaning' behind it was good, but I just didn't like the way it looked. But, I still like it. O_o

LOL. This is an awesome PV, very different from what you would normally expect from Ayu... The song itself is great, I love the silence right before the second chorus. Very awesome.

Exactly. You don't even see someone chopping off and cutting off Ayu in pieces of corpes. Like you said, it's like a barbie.

CloseToAyu - Yeah, the white Ayumi totally reminded me of Madonna, too!

I like the song a lot but I don't know what to say about the PV. It is pretty cool but reminds me of the Insane Clown Posse. Clowns scare me (and I'm not the only one, judging from some comments) so I was disturbed in that sense. Anyone else notice that marionette Ayumi was wearing a slip? That is not a dress, people, lol.

Agreed with all the people who say it's very symbolic. It's much more obvious than her other PV's (which may or may not have deeper meanings, lots of people make something out of nothing). But this PV, definitely the story of Ayumi's fame.

I agree with basically everything jerms said, and everyone else; she is a puppet, or a machine, that is being controlled like a doll by her management, and copies are being made of her (by Avex? Maybe this is some underhand jab at Ai Otsuka? xD I kid, I kid...) but she is powerless to stop them -- her arms are cut off. When arms are taken away or injured and are not able to be used, it represents helplesness.

Clowns, clown faces, masks, etc. represent the "persona," which is how we present ourselves to the world. These aren't bad to have, because they are necessary for getting along with others. This might be a stretch, but the mask definition of a clown seems on target.

The color white represents purity, innocence, perfection, and understanding. Ayumi, herself, dancing in all white seems to be a clear use of this. She knows what her future will be like, and the doll she is also represented with is perfect because it is a machine. The doll is pure and innocent because it doesn't realize that it's falling into a trap.

Black basically means hate & dark emotions, and mysterious and unknown (powerful) forces. The contrast to black (the clowns!), is obvious: white = good, black = evil. But, their relationship, means a clear understanding and balance.

However, in all-white Ayumi, her lips are red. Red symbolizes the life force within us, and words and song come from her mouth. Her mouth and songs are her life force, and her prosperity, which makes her perfect and pure. However, the red is faded, and that symbolizes a life that is fading away.

Yeah. My media players don't seem to like the Alterna PV that much, because they keep slowing it down (aaargh, most annoying thing on earth, I swear)... Any other symbolism people want my opinions on? XD

About the slip. As ladies know, you're really not supposed to wear those as just regular clothes, lol. This seems to symbolize her pureness (she's naive), and also her vulnerability. With only her underclothes on, she is almost nude to the world.

Also, gender arcehtypes come into play here. Assuming the clowns represent Avex, but also Ayumi's mask, they are opposites. The white Ayumi is a woman (duh), but Avex is represented as a man. Opposites are usually revealed to make the differences of each being clear: in this case, Ayumi is good and the victim; the clowns are bad and the victimizer.

Sadly, I don't have a reason for the eye, or the children.

But maybe the children symbolize... for instance, the girl is captivated by the images on the telivisions, and the boy sees this as an opportunity to sneak a peak -- thinking that she is inferior, and he can easily take advantage of this (these are gender archetypes, too). And as the girl slaps his hand away, she is smiling, meaning she doesn't take the act seriously or insultingly. That's not a way that should be taken, and maybe, as Ayumi shows herself losing her innocence (her sense of self), society is losing its sense of self as well? XD That's kinda stretching it...
