I think you're right, Delirium. As far as I know, Sweetbox was so big in Japan when they were beginning, they started doing a lot of their main promotions there and have continued to do so. I think many people just disregard or underestimate the popularity of "western" music and people in Japan.

I'm a little annoyed now that I know she had an album planned out and dumped it for SWEETBOX.

Hopefully we'll get to hear that album someday, because I'm sure it would have been a lot better. Not to say '(miss)understood' wasn't good, but I think that other one would have been a bit better.

Yep, they are popular, even throughout other parts of Asia and Europe. I know they do tours in Europe and in Korea. No one needs to utilize anyone else to "get popular." Sweetbox is already well known. Just because their popularity might not equate with Ayu's doesn't mean they're not popular. Whoever said Sweetbox is " Jpop?" Sure, they're signed to AVEX Japan, but Jade doesn't even sing in Japanese for her songs. Guess you guys are undermining the popularity of western music in Japan .
I see how "rational" this forum can be. They're Sweetbox's songs to begin with anyway. They have every right to do whatever with them. No need to get infuriated just because Jade's releasing an album that was planned even before (miss)understood.

And I'm not trying to stir up the wank here, but if it really gets down to unoriginality, technically Memorial Address is also another tune sung by a previous group, and yet it's a favourite among the Ayu community.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I may not like the GEO stuff as much, but it is no different then her using other people like Bounceback to compose her music.

Where do you see that? It seems like more people are complaining about Ayumi instead of Sweetbox.

Criticism of Sweetbox's versions doesn't necessarily mean they're being bashed for releasing the same songs.

yea, i've read sweetbox's message boards and i think they are actually very nice about Ayu covering some of sweetbox's songs, no one is dissing Ayu except for 1 person...but there are alot of people who respect Ayu there

DING!

That's how I found out about Sweetbox. I was in a record store in Chiba and one of her songs came on the overhead speakers. I went to a clerk and asked 'Who is this?', She gave me the deer in headlights look, so I pointed to the ceiling and she pointed to a Sweetbox display the size of a car lot (minor exaggeration), the only other media I saw in Japan with that kinda of promo/display was Fairyland, 24 and Namie.
So, I bought the CD and told the clerk to GTFO for not knowing english in Chiba/Tokyo area.

Sweetbox version of Bold & Delicious is horrible.

Pride is wonderful, however, I like it as much as Ayumi's version. Same for Every Step. Beautiful Girl is not bad but Jade's voice annoys me in there. Ladies Night is ok, I don't find it that spectacular.

^ Here's what I did...I went to the official website http://www.sweetbox.com/ and then signed up for the newsletter so that I'd be able to listen to previews of Sweetbox's songs. Just pop in your email address and you're set! When you get the newsletter in your mailbox, just unsubscribe.
