I'm just going to mention my friends' names, not by just saying "Friend, Bob".
(on MySpace) Me: Oh I love your picture! You're so pretty! You actually look like [one of] my favorite singers! Baylie: Thanks I don't know how I look Asian but... okay.... Me: Look I have pictures! Lindsey: Oh Dustin look it's the porn star... Dustin: That's nice. Me: *plays ANGEL'S SONG PV* Brother: What song is that? Me: ANGEL'S SONG. Why? Brother: It sounds cool. Me: Really? Cool! Brother: Who's it by? Me: Ayumi... Brother: (annoyed because I'm obsessed) Oh. Me: Oh my gosh! Ayumi has a new single coming out! Courtney: Who? Me: Ayumi Hamasaki! Courtney: Cool! What's it called? Me: Now & Forever and it comes with a song called GRAVITY. Courtney: Oh cool! Me: Sorry, I just had to tell somebody. Courtney: lol It's okay. (another time) Courtney: Hey can you make me a CD for my new iPod? Me: Um, sure. What do you want? Courtney: Any of those songs you showed me. They're really cool! Me: Oh you mean by Ayumi? Courtney: Yeah! Me: Okay sure! (listening to my iPod with a friend) (Humming 7/4 plays) Me: *hums along to the beat* Dustin: Whoa is this the porn star? Me: Yeah. Dustin: Oh awesome! *listens* My friend, Dustin, even made up some lyrics to my name's WOMEN because of the fact that she's a porn star to him. It was just during the beginning with just music, before she sings. I really got a kick out of him trying to sing the first verse.

My parents totally don't get it. My mom is pretty racist and extremely close minded, which is really sad, but she can't stand the fact that I like music that is sung by Asians, lol. Oh well, doesn't matter now since I no longer live at home.
The only other person I know who truely likes Ayumi is my younger sister. We got into Ayu around the Loveppears/Duty time, though, so I don't think my sister likes any other Ayu's stuff after I am... She loves Loveppears, probably because that was all I listened to for the longest time when I first got that album. A guy I briefly dated a couple of years ago seemed to like Ayu a bit. I burned him a cd of my fave songs by her and he said he was blown away. We haven't spoken in a few years, so I have no idea if he is a fan. Some of my college friends let me play some Ayu for them. They were curious because my computer always had Ayu wallpapers and played Ayu CMs on the screensaver. They said it sounded okay, but I think it really just weirded them out. My boyfriend LOVES to make fun of me for listening for Ayu and says I'm a complete dork for listening to Jpop. He's admitted that he thinks she's hot, but doesn't seem to like listening to her. When ever I try to turn the ipod to Ayu in the car, he groans and threatens to make me listen to his Norma Jean screaming music, which I detest. He also hates techno, so that doesn't help much either. Recently I showed him the Startin' PV, thinking he might find it funny, but he told me it was retarded. Oh well, at least I didn't dress up like a Jedi for the release of Star Wars Ep III like he did!!!! And he calls me a dork.

Interesting question XD
My first reaction when a listened her (many years away) was like "mm... i don't like her music". I was so blind then  But I saw a video of one of her concerts and... omg! I was CRYING!! I was so moved and i couldn't explain why. I loved it, and i started to love her. One day my mother was sitting by my side meanwhile i was watching one of her concerts and her reaction was the same: she was on the verge of tears! And she said "It's amazing how someone like her (a girl so short and skinny from her point of view) can move SO many people! Because there are a lot of people in that concert, and everybody sings and jumps all together with her!". She was very impressed XD

I made 5 of my friends listen to Ayumi and they all like her now.
 Which makes me happy. ^^ One of my friends is in love with Ayumi's clothes! She keeps saying she wants to steal Ayu's wardrobe. xD But of course I have other friends who think I'm weird cause I listen to Japanese music. And then... my parents.... wonder why I "waste" my money "on that stuff" But it's been 3 years now so I think they are getting used to it. u.u They should be. >.> But they have been ok with it, since they let me order.  (that's all I care about. XD)

I think i'm pretty lucky compared to most of you... because my brother was the first to actually listen to Japanese music (but i'm heaps more hardcore than him. He doesn't like it anymore) and that i'm asian and so are my friends!
My little sister likes her alot She said she didn't want any of her friends to listen to Japanese music so she'd be the one with the unique interest  My older sister had listened to Ayu before be and loved evolution and M, but she sometimes gets annoyed when I play them and it's not one of her favourites She says Ayu just recycled old melodies (and she's a musician!) but I had Ladies Night on the computer and she watched it and now she totally loves it! She also likes B&D because it's track 1 on (miss)understood and it keeps playing first. I think the song works better with asians!When I bought (miss)understood she was so exited! Looking at the DVD tracklisting she saw Ladies Night and B&D and was stoked. She wanted to see the photobook too. Supprisingly, unlike most caucasian people, she thinks that Ayu has more NATURAL beauty than artists like BoA (I had OUTGROW too) because Boa looked very superficial at that time. My mum likes her but thinks shakira is just oh-so-much better She loves her spanish work before her english career. She just likes the subtitles to know what they're saying... I think it's because she thinks english music's lyrics suck.My dad had an outburst on my because she was really angry and decided to chanel it on my and my jpop, but he doesn't seem to mind anymore and he was trying to sing STEP you once! My little sister likes koda kumi more but keeps saying "kada kumi" but after seeing the BEST ~second sessions~ limited edition and her first things concert she was like "ewwwww, I don't like her anymore. I only like people on their looks!" LOL She's only 8 years old! My friends like her more or less. One of my friends started of loving her but then BoA popped up. My brother likes her too. Especially evolution. My father... I don't know. When my cousin found out I listened to Ayu, she was like "OMG you've heard of Ayumi Hamasaki?"

She watches Ayu concert DVD with me and listen to her songs as well. (because I tune the volume kinda loud so everyone in the house can hears it and got brainwashed...hehe )But my friends is like: eww, plastic surgery!!! (One of my friend even print out a "don't-know-from-where" articles+pics of Ayu's face been plastic surgery  I just feel like slapping her in her face  *no violence~* Basically my friends make fun of every artists I like, usually Japanese artists...

My parents like Ayu’s shows (one evening I showed them and my grandparents Arena Tour 2005 and A Museum and they were like WOAH) but my father says she has chicken legs. So when we are in the car and I play Ayu, he asks “Is this that chicken leg girl?” and I just answer “yes”.
 One of my sisters likes some of her songs like GAME, Fly High and Evolution and the other one just calls her “the chinese girl”…grrr… it makes me SO mad. Also, she says japanese and chinese it's the same.  Once I was in school listening to Ayu and my friend asked me "what are you listening?" and I told him "Ayumi Hamasaki", and he told me "you listen to Ayumi Hamasaki? My friends like her." Then, I asked him if he liked her and he didn't.

I've actually been pretty happy lately, one of my friends always wants to listen to my ipod and she really likes monochrome, she said "sounds nice." hehe
i played some orchestra versions for another one of my friends, and she says she likes how Ayu's voice is pretty and soft. <<I really value her opinion more, because she and I are both musicians and we are both usually commenting on singers, and she can really tell when a singer is bad or on a wrong note. And then I was in Spanish the other day, and some people wanted to know what i was listening to, so I gave them my ear thingys. and one girl was like, "that was not what I expected." and I asked her "did you expect it to sound chinese?" (as in the chinese language) and she said "yes." as if she could tell the difference...

I'm guessing cause it sounds kinda American and Gospel like my friend she listened to it and she was liek this is hot and then started to say "YA.....GA....DA....WO..." part. and Also alot of parents are amazed with Arena Tour 2005. I remeber I had it playing on the T.V. just so my dada could see it and his eyes were glued to the T.V. while e was on the phone so he couldn't really hear the songs then after the conversation was over he just walked away didn't even ask who it was. My mom just says" Oh Jennifers listening to "Her Japanese Music" like I own it. well atleast they don't think its chinese. Why is that the irst thing people say about AYumi what they forgot about the whole Japanese race. But My mom and dada don't even know the people I listen to and my brother onyl knows the beat of Bold & Delicious

My mother doesn't seem to mind her that much. She recognizes Moments and Fly high. Like, she can't sing along, but she says "ya la ya ya la ya" along with the tune.
My brothers and sisters think I'm weird, but they don't exactly tell it to my face. XD Oh well. My grandma doesn't seem to mind it. Of course, all my friends are like "o_O Okay then?" But they're my friends, so they accept what I do and how I do it anyway. One of my friends, Annabelle, totally hated her. I'd actually made her listen to the whole MY STORY album and she said it was one of the worst experiences of her life. She said she didn't want to listen to another album, so I made her listen to Startin'. She said that Ayu's voice was too fake (wtf). Made her listen to Born To Be.... She said that it was annoying. Made her listen to teens (acoustic version)... Her: OMG LOL I LOVE THIS GIRL'S SONGS! <3<3<3~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I told her that it was only a cover of someone else's song, and she replied, "But it's the Ayumi girl's voice, right?" Well, I have some friend who are into Japanese music, but not totally into it, like I am! I try to burn them CDs with alot of Ayu's songs on there, especially Dearest, cuz my friends are totally crazy about InuYasha (sorry if I spelt that wrong!!)
My mother is a different story. I was listening to Ayu one day, and she was like 'WTF? Why are you listening to Korean music?' and I'm like 'Mother, please. It's Japanese.', and she was like 'Why don't you listen to Chinese music, it's much better you know.' (I guess cuz we're Cantonese, she thinks I need to listen to Cantonese music, too) And another time, I showed my mother a picture of Ayu, and I was like 'Mama, I wanna be skinny like her', and she was like 'That's crazy. How much does she weigh?', and I was like '88 pounds', and she was like 'That's crazy, you're crazy, she's crazy. Why are you listening to this crazy woman's music?', and I was like 'Mother, please, shut up'
