? I'm not sure what you're talking about. I was using "a sister to walk along with" as a loose translation of what others told me. I don't know anything about Chinese but in Japanese 「歩」 means to walk.

Yes, what they meant was the literal translation, in Chinese, of Ayu's name is something like 'a sister to walk with.' It is referring to her name, but the nickname simply comes from translation.

Ayu's name in Chinese is

濱崎

So it's just like calling her "Sister Ayumi", not in the nun way though lol

And 步 means step/walk in Chinese too, so usually if you know the Japanese meaning, it probably means the same thing in Chinese since Japanese characters derived from Chinese

I think 步姐 is just "Older sister Ayu". The HK media calls her that all the time, and personally I don't like it because it makes her sound old, but the point of the nickname is that it actually asserts her seniority in the world of Asian media and entertainment.

i agree. 姐 is a symbol for ayu's seniority in the Asian entertainment industry.

It's 'cause Namie is at her peak [again] right now. And she just released a best AND a best tour. (You know how Japanese love those bests, hah!)

Yeah, thats true but what I dont get it that Miyazaki's work is generally family oriented ie wholesome and infalliable career without scandal. Namie, although extremely popular, has less than wholesome music.
I am very curious to know the criteria used to get these scores. Is it sex appeal? Maybe Miyazaki is just not sexy enough, lol.

Sex appeal and general popularity with the majority has a lot to do with every poll, hah. Both are probably the biggest things that keeps a celebrity stuck in somebody's head. Besides, sex is so much more fun than wholesome family stuff, lol. XD

^ Gackt is more of general entertainment for the public, for lack of better words, lol. He's not exactly a big musician. Not compared to people like Ayu, Kumi, Hikaru, Namie, etc.
