And looking up at the sales, they really aren't selling for their musical talent. Most of their CD's seem to go waste once hardcore fans get their bonus items and or voting/concert tickets. Look at this article:

http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2013/0...an-1-yen-each/

I think it's a bit hazy marketing concept. Also, I feel sorry for the girls, because they really don't seem to have that much popularity over what they really do [music], but over those tickets that are a bonus, and then even fans throw their copies away, or sell them with really low price.

@ SURREAL RAINBOW

That post sums up AKB48 in a nutshell. Thank you for posting that and thank you to the original poster tokyoxjapanxfan for telling the truth.

I personally have no ill feelings against the girls, but their marketing in regard to sales is an insult to musicians, their craft and everything it stands for. It's just disheartening that the music industry has been reduced to nothing more than a fallacy.

Lol junk singles.
What a compliment for the producer, who can't be bothered as he counts his yen.

Maybe one day when I have spare change, I'll buy one of their singes. Half a penny for junk still is a LOT.

I'm not a fan of AKB48 but I don't dislike them either. More power to this massive group for their sales of physical copies in a world that is dominated by digital music stores and downloads. I don't know enough about them to form a real opinion though. Plus I'm very bias as an Ayu fan. Ayu will still be a JPOP legend to me!

I know that this is an Ayumi Hamasaki forum, but by doing that you guys just comes across desperate and mean to those girls.

I don't like AKB48, but I'm happy for them cause they worked hard for that as much as Ayu did back then.

It's just sales, you guys. It's not like Ayu is retiring because of that, so take it easy.
This so much. And as someone pointed out, its by gender, regardless of solo or group act. So, it is fair.

I wonder how many copies they would really sell if you could only count 1 copy per person.

I'm shocked but it's the reality.

But we all know that no one can ever replace Ayu. Congrats to AKB48!

Agreed

Remember - AKB48 is a bunch of girls while Ayu is only one Ayu, and only one Empress...

It's really an unfair comparison. Look at how crazy AKB's promotion is. Their sales is so much being made-up.

lol
No, they didn't...at least not for me.

Back in the days when Ayu set her record there were only one (maybe two) versions of an album/a single to buy.
AKB48 has like 5 different versions of all their albums/singles. Most of their fans even buy more of each version, because of the "extras" that come with the releases!

So how could anybody even think about comparing these two very different situations?

Congratulations to AKB48, but Ayu is still The #01 in my eyes!

In the end, they will pass the 50 million mark and break one more Ayu record.
I was checking the daily oricon chart today and their new single sold something like 1,100,000 copies in one day... That's crazy.
I don't wanna be pessimistic but their sales are CRAZY... -_-

its not really breaking ayus record because shes a solo artist while AKB48 are a band. Plus every member a band has, can multiply their popularity by the amount of people in it. Though the music world was different when ayu was in her peak, unlike today with half the dribble that gets released now and the group teen fan band craze

I always think AKB48 is female GROUP rather than female ARTIST.
They've got more than 48 person which is pretty unfair to compare with a solo female singer...
