Overrated Ayu songs and underrated songs

Yes, I think so. The song is very nice but got very little attention compared to most other songs on (miss)understood. It was never performed live or presented on a single and it seems not many people listen to it very much, therefore I think it's under rated because I belive a lot of people would think higher of it if it was more popular.

I definitely agree with the general consensus that M is overrated beyond belief. I kept hearing fans praise this song as if it were God so I decided to listen to it about a month ago. Really not that amazing. Dearest also. It sounds pretty generic in my opinion.

But noticed Rainbow doesn't get much love. I'm not sure if it's the album or the song in question, but I REALLY like Rainbow (the song)! She sounds really nice in this song, and other songs when she uses her lower registry. Can't stand it when she screaches (Pride was the worst offense of all time). And it's such a nice, simple song.

The songs are undoubtedly really good, I don't see how they are over rated when a lot of people like them, that'd just be natural. evolution is imo one of the best live songs ever, it's fun to perform and the audience joins in, I belive she'll keep on performing it . But I'd love to see a few more of her older songs performed.

But as Ayu has said herself, she likes her most recent songs best because they are the closest to her current feelings and emotions, so seeing old songs and new-but-not-the-newest songs performed again is very unlikely... *wants to see GAME live so bad*

I belive we'll see a lot more of Humming 7/4, it's great when it's live.

I don't think I understand the concept overrated entirely... most people say they like M while they still think it's overrated, do you mean that some of the people that like it shouldn't? Should there be less people praising the song because it doesn't deserve that much praise even if you like it yourself? This isn't aimed at you norain, it's aimed at people saying M is overrated in general.

in my opinion the only overrated ayu song for me is Evolution and I still love it lol i can't get tired of her songs (except Connected >.> making me a hypocrite all of a sudden hehe)

Overrated:

In general, I find a lot of the tracks on the I am ... album to be overrated. I still love the album though. Personally, I find that half of the I am ... album is incredible, vastly underrated, pure magic, and even surpasses the hype surounding the album (NEVER EVER, Daybreak, Endless sorrow, a song is born). However, I also find that the other half of the tracks are very overrated, particularly UNITE! (very poor SURREAL rip off), evolution (exceptional SURREAL rip-off but still a rip-off nonetheless), Dearest (most bland, generic Ayu ballad I've ever heard) and a lot of the album tracks like Naturally, still alone, and no more words (solid but unspectacular) in my opinion. Strangely, all the songs I love on the album are very underappreciated, while all the songs I'm not too fond of seem to get the most attention and praise.

Other songs I think are overrated are:
Boys & Girls (I do love the song, but the generic arrangement really ruins it for me. In concert though, the song is absolutely fantastic. It has a wonderful energy so I can forgive the arrangement, but only when performed live)

Voyage (I really want to love this song, because I really can't find anything wrong with it, but for some reason I can only like it. To me it feels a bit insincere and cheasy, probably due to the back-up vocals.)

Underrated:

A lot of songs from Ayu's first three albums are absolutely wonderful, and while I woudn't call them underrated, they do seem to go by unnoticed now. A Song For XX has some really great underappreciated songs like POWDER SNOW and Present, as well as its singles. LOVEppears has countless superb tracks on it that a lot of people really overlook. Finally , the last three songs on Duty (teddy bear, Key ~eternal tie ver.~ and girlish) are amoung Ayu's best work, but also seem to be overlooked.

Other songs I find underrated:

Bold & Delicious/Pride (At first, even though I really loved these songs, I could could also see why one could hate them. You could justify both loving and loathing them. But after thinking about and listening to this single for a very long time, I honestly think people have a strong bias against this single. Not only are these two songs incredibly refreshing, they are also executed impeccably. I think if you listen to these songs once more with an open mind, you'll genuinely like them).

is this LOVE? (My favourite Ayu rock song. The desperation in Ayu's voice is tangible. I love the contrast bewteem the restrained vocals during the verses and the raw power in the chorus. It develops such a real sense of tension. Also, the arrangement is absolutely mesmerizing.)

Born To Be... (Triumphant, inspirational, and moving, this songs just bursts with exuberant energy and vigor. This song will definitly grow on you.)

walking proud (I'm not sure how well-recieved this song was, but no one seems to mention it. It's such a simple, classically Ayu ballad that is well-written and poignant. By far the best song on MY STORY and one of my fave Ayu songs).

forgiveness, Dolls (These two songs are far from dull or boring as most people believe; they are sweeping, dramatic, unforgettable tracks that are among the top-tier of Ayu ballads.

NEVER EVER, Daybreak, Endless sorrow, a song is born (Breathtaking songs that are suprisingly hidden in the shadows of the far inferior but better recieved songs on the I am... album like Dearest and UNITE!).

I'll answer this for you immel, because some people using the term in this thread don't seem to understand it either.

You can't really say a song is overrated if you love it. That makes no sense. Obviously you agree with the general consensus that the song was excellent. So if someone is saying that, say, "M" is overrated, yet they love it, it's kind of a contradiction !

Now, if you aren't quite as fond of a heavily praised song, you can call that overrated. For example, I didn't find "M" or "Dearest" to be that amazing, so I could say it was overrated since so many others think those songs very good. Now if you like a song, but don't think it's as amazing as the general consensus seems to think, you could also call it overrated.

Really confusing, I know. It all comes down to personal preference since songs convey different feelings to different people. So technically, overrated/underrated might not actually be correct terms to use since I just might not have received the same messages from "M" and "Dearest" as someone else.

Um...you see, the only reason that you definite a song is overrated is just you don't like it while the others do. How come you say that it's overrated?

everyone has his or her own tastes...it's,of course, possible that you don't have the taste that the most people have.

Dearest (I enjoyed the Acoustic Piano Version better)

UNDERRATED:
And Then (THE most underrated song I have ever seen!! I have a friend who's been a fan of Ayu for 4 years, and listens to LOVEppears constantly. When I asked him about And Then, he had NO IDEA what I was talking about!! Even when I put the track on for him, he said he never really listened to it because it wasn't PV or single worthy. I nearly killed him.)
