Though, not all North American artists follow any specific rule, some release before and after, and both, etc. But I prefer the methods of releasing singles before. Last edited by rikku411; 9th February 2008 at 11:41 PM. |

What I don't understand is the American system. Why don't people just buy the album instead of the single?

Japanese... defnitely... they keep things coming... you're almost never bored...
and they come out with stuff faster.

![]() I said that in my first post. I said they don't usually which means they do sometimes. Or should I say 'we'. I'm the from the US so I should know o.o (and yes I know you are from or are in some way associated with America). Last edited by CHE.R.RY; 11th February 2008 at 04:27 AM. |

I think the Japanese system builds up more anticipation for the album. I rarely get REALLY HYPED about Western releases unless they're from artists I already know and love, but the "singles first" release style lets me get familiar with and develop a taste for upcoming albums because the singles are usually a good indicator for what the rest of the album is like.
Please excuse my atrocious post --- it's late, I got up too early this morning, and I should really go to bed.

The Japanese system is way better and also a smarter move for the label companies. When there's a single in America, you don't give a **** because an album will follow. But once you hear the album, nothing is new. There are a few singles and music videos after that, but it's nothing new. However, in Japan you die at the news of a single, the single after that.. the speculating... the demand for something to leak.. the tension around new songs and news that follows and eventually the album.. it all works. And I'm a person who hates to wait.. but I'm pleased when I get something long-awaited in my hands

I don't really mind either. I'm patient enough to wait for songs to come out. But, if I to pick, I guess I would have to go with the Japanese system based on the fact that with their system, they can get more money.

Japanese system for me - I like hearing singles and anticipating what the album will sound like. If the singles came after the album, I wouldn't pay as much attention to them, since I already heard the main tracks on the album. In short, it's just not as much fun with the American system.

Japanese system is so much better.
Singles after the album are senseless and albums are so much MORE after the singles. I love the Japanese system ♥ |

in American system SINGLES ARE NOT MEANT TO BE SOLD BY THEMSELVES, THEY ARE MEANT TO PROMOTE THE ALBUM... That's why they are released AFTER the album, and not before.
The few artists that does release physical singles know that they are only going to sell to people interested on the remixes (Djs usually buys singles) I prefer the American system cuz it aloud the artist to produce a cohesive album... jpop sometimes has some artists releasing singles that has nothing in common with each other and in the end the album sounds more like a single collection (I'm looking to you Secret) Quote:

This is why sales in Japan are going to hell right now, and I think in the long haul, the way their industry works is really going to change. They have to do something about it. I think singles may become obsolete to make way only for albums...but that's kinda extreme.
