I LOVE Crea... it is much credited to the music as all the others that worked on the song.

Ayu's songs have relatively good arrangements; what matters in this case is a song that she can perform again and again without boring her audience (and in the case of pop music, this is more important than anything). A good example of that is evolution. I like most of Ayu's compositions, and I'm sure her creative input is bigger than you think. She wouldn't let anyone insert a sound or an instrument into a song if she didn't like it. She might even instruct her team exactly how to arrange a song.

CREA technically speaking is a very mediocre composer, mainly because Ayu knows nothing about music theory. But on the good side that also leads to her experimenting more with melodies than most people. In the end she's extremely hit or miss. There's horrible, horrible melodies she has composed and great ones.

well this thread takes me back lol

needless to say, I definitely don't think Ayu is on hikki's level at all anymore

Anyways...I think she IS a mediocre composer who was lucky enough to have tremendous success with it...success which personally, I tend to correlate more with the arrangements...

I think her recent music proves that you can still have crappy compositions but have a good song... and the opposite.

I like most of the CREA compositions.
The only songs I don't care about that much are Winding road, Humming 7/4 and No more words.

I get what you mean - the arrangement is a huge part of the song but I still love CREA's compositions anyway. And some of them have great melodies such as M. If you hear the piano only version of that song you realise what a great composition it is.

I agree!

I have to say that I think that M is one of the most fantastic masterpieces EVER! Composition, arrangement and vocally wise. That one is a winner for sure!

I personally love her compositions. They're very simple, but they work. You don't have to go all "Sakura Drops" to make a good song. Sometimes, you want to listen to simple music. I'm not saying that simple music is bad. Something like 'no more words' is very simple, but magical.

Lol I agree...

For me, when I look at the CREA "masterpiesces" that I like, I realize that it's often the arrangments that make the song for me. For PoM tour, a few arrangements we're changed and the songs were not as amazing to me (not just ones composed by CREA). I still think she has some great compositions that I often love singing myself since they're beautiful or catchy. But the arrangements sometimes make the song. I would like winding road a lot more if it had a different arrangement that I liked better and I wouldn't like Close to you as much if it didn't have its arrangement. And of course this goes for the many songs she co-composed too.

But I don't dwell on that. I appreciate many of CREA's compositions and love several of them. Some of the songs may not have been as highly praised without their arrangements but oh well.

I love ayu's songs overall and for me that's what matters, regardless of who the composer/arrangers are.

well honestly, for me, and, other people might disagree with me here, but for me she's not a good composer because she doesn't have the training to really understand what she's doing. Her compositions can work as a melody, but they're very very messy as written.

But damn...compared to some of the awful experimental compositions coming from ugh these people...I'll take her poorly written, great melodies any day lol

lol I kinda agree with you that they're not the best written melodies. BUT I think that some of Crea's compositions are some of the best I've ever heard. I will always bring out "no more words" as the perfect example. That song is amazing.
