A song for XX wins as least favorite album, which is pretty obvious.

Memorial address 4. I am... 5. GUILTY 6. RAINBOW 7. LOVEppears 8. Secret 9. Duty 10. A Song for XX The only album I really dislike is RAINBOW, though it's grown on me a bit over time. Hmmm... Hard, but:
1.) I am... 2.) LOVEppears 3.) Memorial Address 4.) Rainbow 5.) (miss)understood 6.) Duty 7.) GUILTY 8.) Secret 9.) My Story 10.) A Song for XX This, of course, is not to say I don't like those albums near the bottom of the list. They just have more drawbacks for me than the higher-ups. |

I tried doing this a while ago... but I forgot to add (m)u in that list lol. Let's try again, without forgetting any albums........ XD
1 - Duty 2 - LOVEppears 3 - Secret 4 - MY STORY 5 - GUILTY 6 - I am... 7 - RAINBOW 8 - (miss)understood 9 - Memorial Address 10 - A Song for XX ...I think that's it. Duty's amazing, LOVEppears is too, I love way too many tracks from GUILTY, Secret and MY STORY... what's stopping I am... from being higher up is the fact that I think the music style she used is too loud, noisy and messy for my taste, RAINBOW I just don't listen to as much as the others, (miss)understood *cough*is overrated*cough* just didn't have as many tracks I loved and I felt some of the songs were too un-ayu-like and it sounded weird. Memorial Address is consistent for the most part, but Greatful Days sucks, and none of the songs are favorites of mine, I just don't find it that memorable. A Song for XX has some great songs, but a lot of dull ones too. End of rant XD |

[1]I am... : Even if her vocals aren't as polished as they are on GUILTY I still have to say that theme-wise, music-wise and overall lyric-wise this is THE best Ayu album for me. There is not a single track on here that I dislike and I think it has some of her best songs. Stand out tracks are "I am...," "Connected," "No more words" and "Daybreak."
[2]GUILTY : Musically, theme and lyrically it's just as great as I am... but it loses points for tapering off near the end. GUILTY has a really strong, powerful and amazing first half and just an OK/good second half. IMHO, everything after Marionette kind of loses my interest, but untitled~for her~ saves it. Also the rapid succession of instrumentals seem like 'filler' tracks for me and I think the album could have either gone without them or could have expanded on one or two. Stand out tracks are "talkin' 2 myself," "decision," "Marionette" and "fated." [3]LOVEppears : For a sophomore album LOVEppears is really impressive, I must say. It takes a totally different approach from ASFXX, which I like, and even if her vocals are squeaky she still manages to have really great songs that are some of my favorites today and are interesting. I love that it took an electronic/dance approach and didn't let up once. Stand out tracks are "monochrome," "P.S. II," "Who..." and "WHATEVER." [4]RAINBOW : I would rank this as on par with I am... as far as lyrics and theme goes, but musically I'm a bit iffy on a few songs. Regardless I think it's a very lovely, tender and beautiful release. Some of her best ballads are on this album and the compositions are amazing for a woman who has no musical education. Stand out tracks are "HANABI," "Dolls," "Over," "Heartplace" and "Free & Easy." [5]Memorial address : It's like GUILTY in reverse: an OK first half with a really amazing latter half. I could do without the first two tracks, as I find them boring again, but everything after Greatful days is ama~zing and some of her best work, IMHO. I almost wish this was a full-length release. Stand out tracks are "ourselves," "forgiveness," "HANABI~episode II~" and "Memorial address." [6](miss)understood : Even though THIS album has a lot of my favorite Ayu songs I had to knock it down a bit for including compositions from GEO of Sweetbox. I don't mind that Ayu used them, I just don't like GEO and think she could have gone with a better composer XD. Even so, it's a very solid album with some great songs and variety all across the musical-genre board. Stand out tracks are "alterna," "rainy day," "(miss)understood," "is this LOVE?," "criminal" and "Will." [7]Secret : I feel like this album SHOULD have been a mini album. It has a good first half and then after "taskinst" I feel like it should have gone right to "kiss o'kill" and "Secret." "1 LOVE," "Beautiful Fighters" and "Born to Be..." drag it down a bit for me, though I like the latter song MUCH more than the other two. Even so, if she had left it without these tracks (and maybe LABYRINTH, as it would then be an extraneous instrumental track) I would have been much happier with the album. Stand out tracks are "Until that day...," "It was," "kiss o'kill" and "momentum." [8]MY STORY : Though this is where Ayu started with her whole 'rock' sound I have to say that as a release I'm not particularly interested with about half of the album. I almost think it's TOO long: there aren't many filler tracks but my attention often drifts away from the songs and I feel guilty for having that happen. It starts off strong and seems to get a little weak in the middle, then it picks up again only to sort of taper off weak again at the end. Stand out tracks are "About you," "GAME," "CAROLS" and "walking proud." [9]A Song for XX : Her debut release ranks so low because it's just so not my style and her vocals are so unpolished - even so, there are some songs on here that I absolutely love (and would love even more if she redid them) despite their musical or vocal flaws. I'm just not a fan of 90s Jpop I guess, and this is gratuitously 90s XD. Stand out tracks are "POWDER SNOW," "poker face," "As if..." and "Hana." [10]Duty : This is another release where I'm iffy about the album. Even though it's one of her best selling albums and has a lot of fan favorite tracks I don't think it holds up when compared to the previous albums I listed. That's not to say that I don't like the album, I just feel that it doesn't hold enough weight against her other releases. Stand out tracks are "SURREAL," "SEASONS," "SCAR" and "teddy bear."

1. MY STORY
2. RAINBOW 3. (miss)understood 4. Duty 5. LOVEppears 6. I am.../Memorial address/Secret 7. GUILTY 8. A Song for XX I don't know though... Everything #3-6 are the ones I can't really decide on. I know MY STORY and RAINBOW are my two favorites, and GUILTY and A Song for XX are my least favorites. Everything else kind of changes around from time to time. |

This is really really hard! My favorite albums can literally change based on my mood or whether or not the album contains a particular song that I'm into at the moment. And I will listen to all of them regularly. Here's what I decided on:
1. I am... My first Ayu purchase and the album that made me a fan. Her singing gets better later, but some of the best lyrics/most classic songs are off of this album. Plus Ayu composed most of the songs. Great cover image. 2. Secret Great rock songs, nice ballads. 3. Guilty Basically tied with I am... and Secret, because in some ways it reminds me of I am... and it has the strong rock flavor that Secret has. It would be ranked higher if I liked My All and Glitter better. 4. Memorial Address A strong collection of songs and the last tasteful cover art Ayu put out! (Just my opinion...). 5. Rainbow Kind of like a laid back I am... part two musically, great lyrics, but some songs are a little bit bland. 6. LOVEppears Great concept, great songs. Good dance songs, although sometimes I think the dance sound doesn't match the song lyrics... 7. Duty It's great but it feels too short to me, and I think the songs have been overplayed for me. The same is true with I am... but that one has more staying power for whatever reason. 8. (miss)understood Also good, but some of the album tracks are a little bit bland. Ugly cover. 9. A Song for XX Rough beginnings both musically and vocally, but some great lyrics, and the title track is one of my favorite songs. 10. My Story Some great tracks, and a lot of really forgettable filler. I think it could have been cut down and been a more cohesive and enjoyable album. Also it was an odd transition musically from pop to a stronger rock sound - some of the songs are just stuck in between being one or the other, which bothers me. |

1. Duty
Duty tops the list easily! By far her best album. Loved the concept, and the cheetah outfit was hawt :p. My rating: 98/100 2. I am... It's a great album. Has about the same stand-out tracks as Duty does, but it also has one or two tracks I'm not too fond of. Most of the non-single tracks are nice. My rating: 95/100 3. LOVEppears Lots of amazing tracks. Very catchy album. My rating: 92/100 4. A Song for XX I love her debut so much. I think it's very underrated. All of the non-single tracks are great and so are the singles. My rating: 91/100 5.. RAINBOW Only one stand out track for me (Free & Easy) and a lot of good/great tracks, but some annoying ones too (wasn't a fan of Real Me) My rating: 88/100 6. (miss)understood It was a nice change but doesn't rank up there with her all-time greats. My rating: 87/100 7. Guilty Very focused on rock. Some of the interludes were unnecessary while some were nice. Also some tracks were completely out of place (get rid of GLITTER from this album). My rating: 85/100 8. Memorial address Very upbeat and fun, but nothing too memorable. My rating: 84/100 9. Secret It's okay. My rating: 70/100 10. MY STORY Don't really like this album at all. Too poppy. My rating: 57/100 |
