I saw her for the first time in 2006 or so... At that time i didn't know much about japanese culture, but I had a friend who was a fan of everything related to Japan and Asia in general. He had a video in his myspace profile and i watched it because i was just bored lol. It was Ayu singing Haru yo koi.

I was like... amazed. She looked so cute in the video, and i LOVED her voice. I asked him more about her, i started listening to her music... The first thing i thought was: "woah she must be really famous... so cute and with that special voice". When I listened to her songs I was impressed because she's totally the type of singer i was looking for!! haha. So... yeah XD

That's how my love for Ayu began

This looks like a sort of old thread, but oh well! I wanna share my story!

The first time I ever heard of Ayu was when I became a member of the Utada-Online forums in late 2002, early 2003. Everyone at the forum seemed to hate her at that time, and labeled her as Utada's biggest rival and opposite.

I loved Utada so much that I thought if Ayu was her opposite, I would hate her too. So I never even looked into her. I never even saw a picture of her until when I finally order Utada's single COLORS in late 2003. At that time, No way to say was just being released, and I saw Ayu's picture on YesAsia. I thought, "oh, she looks cute, but everyone says she's evil!" haha So I still ignored her.

It wasn't until a year after this that I finally hear Ayu sing. One of my friends from U-O stumbled across the MY STORY album and fell in love with it. He tried to convince me to listen to it, but I was reluctant because I wasn't really looking for new music and I just assumed that I would hate it and it would be a waste of my time... He eventually convinced me to watch her performance of About You from the music fair and I was so captivated by it...

After I fell in love with About You, I downloaded MY STORY and I really enjoyed the entire album. I was so surprised. I was also kind of angry that I had let other people's bias opinions keep me from something so good for so long.

Then, when the Panasonic commercials that featured "alterna" leaked on to the internet and I had the preview for that song, I became totally OBSESSED. alterna was the first song I ever checked to see if it had leaked like everyday because I thought it sounded so good. And now I've been equally a fan of Ayu and Hikki ever since~

Well...

I had this preconcieved idea of Ayu (my first sight was 2006, just after she released 'Secret') that she was a dance artist and she did trance songs (I got her and Ami mixed up, lawls). When I heard 'A Song for ××', she blew me away, and then i though she was a punk rock chick! Ö. I was wrong, as always! Ø

Pretty much like this, but I DID listen to her music to know how would it sounds like xD... But her voice annoyed me to death (still do when I listen to older stuff)

My first song was "Bold & Delicious", and I thought her voice was seriously weird, especially the "wa wo wooo" before the choruses. I loved it though lol.

First, the RAINBOW PV... and it didn't meant anything for me... but downloaded evolution and Fly high and I was like "what's this *******???" And everything changed after seeing the then newly AT2005 and downloading I am...

First heard evolution from my friend in the 8th grade. I thought "THIS IS GREAT!". Then I forgot about the song. My Ayu obsession started in 2005 when I heard STEP you. Once again I thought "THIS IS AMAZING", but this time I stuck with Ayu and have been listening ever since.

First time I saw her was when she was singing Silent Night with Gackt, they were both AWFUL. Second time was when I was thinking about listening to her music, so I looked up the Voyage perf. where she forgot her lyrics and I was like "Awwwwww! That's so cute!"

So I downloaded her entire discography and was kinda overwhelmed by how messy everything was, so I ignored it for a while and listened on youtube to songs like Trauma and a little while later I realised she was the one who sung Dearest.

But eventually I sorted her files out and wahey, she's never annoyed me like she has some, I love her voice in all its stages.

I thought she was ugly. Lol. I googled her and found this very disappointing picture of her and after listening to more of her music I thought "she has GOT to be hotter than that" so I looked her up again and found more flattering pictures of her and realized what a goddess she was. Lol.

omg yes, lol. it was horrible, I was horrible >_>....lol i thought she was such a stupid, selfish, conceited person. i DID NOT like her lol i did my best to put her down in my head, but in the end she really shone on me and i loved her <3.

Ayu pissed me the hell off. She had this annoying 80's one hit wonder voice with a vibrato up the wazoo. I found out that she had tooooons of music even though her and utada started out at the same time. I imagined she just did all this to get famous. I mean what artist really wants 100 remixes on every single? I first heard her song "is this love?" and was like. "What the hell?" I still can't stand the opening. "woah woah yeah yeah lalalal lai" again, sounds like an 80's wannabe singer that never got anywhere. I didn't find her that attractive either. Till this day it still annoys me that she wont use her natural hair color: black. Instead, its this weird brown/blondish color.

Yeah It was all good back then.

i knew ayu since YOU pv. i thought this girl is sooo beautiful, almost perfect. but i didn't follow up any of her songs at that time as i was listening to SPEED songs LOL and i liked SPEED-ish energetic songs those years.

after buying A BEST and watching AT2000 DVD, i couldn't help but falling for her from then on.

A friend from Texas I was chatting with, introduced me to Ayu.
She sent me an mp3 of M (great song to start with btw

) and some pics of her, cause I wanted to know what she looked like.. her style and eyes..

I don't know if I fell in love before or after seeing the pics lol

Not long after that I downloaded the PV's from her Memorial address album.
I think I saw her Angel's Song PV first.. I didn't know what to think of that, but it was cute ^^
But then I saw Greatful Days.. I couldn't believe what I saw, it was so amazing..
I was speechless, but with a big smile on my face..

It was right then when this crazyness started.. and began losing all my money because of it

well, my first impression is when i saw JEWEL PV on tv CM...
i just think "OMG she's so cute.."
well, at that time, her rock songs always annoy me, but now i just fall in love with her...^^

at first i never seen her face, i only hear her voice
i was watching inuyasha then the ED was her song..
i was like "i think this song had a nice meaning..but well i cant read japanese lol so idk who's the singer XD"
then at 2005/2006 i started to realize that it's AYU!!!! XD
my first impression when i finnaly saw her face was "damn!! she's so freakin cuuuuuteeee!!!!!"
but that time L`Arc~en~Ciel & BoA's music already grow on me so in mid 2006 (i think so..) i started to be a full-time Ayu Fan ^^

i didn't like her AT ALL initially..

i knew that at that point of time that she's a HUGE j-pop star and highly-influential but i still didn't like her.. up until 2006 of course..

I bumped into Ayu by accident last year, I got sicked of American music so I switched over to Asian music. So, I started listening to Mandopop, Cantopop, even Vietnamese music. So while browsing thru Itunes to see what Asian music they have, there was a Jpop section. So I browse in that category and there she was, with those eyes on the A Best2 cd cover. So I do what some of the fans in this thread did....GOOGLE! I was like, wow she is HOTT! So I read her up on wikipedia, and the first song I download from her was Dearest. I was damn, this song sound real good. She has an angelic voice. Then I Youtube her to watch some of her PV. My first album from her was "A Complete Singles " btw, a good album to get, if your a first time listener to Ayu. After that, the rest is what you called.....history.
