I love Ayu and her music... But I am not fan of her new album "Party queen". I don't know, but songs like NaNaNa or Shake it really doesn't appeal to me... I prefer all the albums released before 13th album.

Well, I learned giving time for stuff to being digested when Hikki released Exodus... I found it a big piece of garbage at first, but I kept trying listening to it... Once I got used to its sound, it was easier to now what I really liked or disliked there.

Of course, this is no formule to love everything Ayu does... After trying RnRC for 1 or 2 months, I noticed I just disliked it, and that's ok^^

It's clichéd, but:

If you think she's going down, then she is.
If you don't think she's going down, then she isn't.

As for the Party Queen album, I think "the next LOVE" was a good step in the right direction. Ayu's voice fits the song to a T and she should continue with such songs.

I guess its the kinda thing where it may be true for a person but not true for everyone else.

Fortunately I don't see ayu as going down....hopefully that can last

Interesting, 8 years ago there were people disliking Memorial Address like people disliking Party Queen or whatever newer stuff today and saying Ayu was going down. And today MA is for a lot of fans a masterpiece.

Even if many people disliked MA back then it doesn't mean that in future everyone will praise PQ as one of her best albums.
Or who knows? But I'm not going to be one of them. Same thing with RnrC. I'll never love that album

meh.

I have yet to come across a release where the general opinion was that it was so much better than the last release.

Considering and especially since I wasn't around until 2005. So it's not really surprising to me that we have "ayu's going down" threads with every new album

And anyways...I can kinda understand about MA. It's got Angel's Songs and Greatful Days on it AND ourselves...and because of you...and hanabi episode 2...and forgiveness...

That's one set of songs I've heard people complain about for hours. Apparently they're quite "mainstream" or something lol

for me ayu's going down just because she doesn't appear on TV and CMs as she used to. it doesn't touch her music that much. I'd love to see her more on TV nowadays. why can't she do it steady like Arashi does? their every new single still sells about 600k while ayu's album barely can reach 250k. that's so sad. why can't she put more effort on promotion and etc.?

A lot of those people just left her fandom...
People praising PQ in the future don't mean it will be the same people who bash it right now

Right now the people praising PQ are mainly the music composition students I showed it to and people outside her fandom who just stumbled upon it. It's just too much of a change for Ayu fans to have an adult album with an actual concept, interesting arrangements and unique compositions.

But that's what I like about the album, it has a concept. When I understood the concept, i said "wow, underneath the trashy covers, you can see deep covers and meaning. i like this" And you can classify me as an Ayu fan and I don't personally see much of a change (maybe with the next LOVE and eyes, smoke, magic. they're good changes imo especially the next LOVE)

What about Love songs? That was easily her most "adult" and mature work to date.

But I do agree, the concept has been lost in translation. Without it, there's just Ayu in her panties on the cover. She used the concept to be a bit more free with her music and image and for that you can only praise her, even if she didn't completly nail it with the album.

I can never tell if you're just a troll or someone who's just intellectually not capable of holding a mature discussion.

Either way.

We all appreciate different things. This thread just shows that some things just take time to grow on people.

I dont agree with this point of view. Apart from the jazz segment I don't see anything "unique". It is anything but a change to me. The rock segment feels dated (it is the same arrangements all over again), the first songs aren't impressive either (Party queen is badly produced, NaNaNa feels like a bad copy of Ladies night and Shake is damn bland). HBYA is also a typical ayu ballad, far from being one of her best.
The interludes are fine. Serenade in A minor is quite impressive.

I really don't understand when it is said that "people who don't dig her new stuff don't like changes etc etc..." when she is oblviously doing the same thing. A swing/jazz oriented album would have been unique and great from her. It's not the case. This album ends up being filled with 3 unique songs (in her discography) and a lot of fillers...

GUILTY was not met with this general attitude by AHS. A ton of people thought GUILTY was a huge improvement from Secret, and that didn't take more than a few days for that general consensus.
