I completely transformed my mom into a hardcore Ayu fan after watching the (miss)understood tour 2006 DVD together last night xD;. I even got her friend interested enough to search for some songs hahaha. My mom's favorite songs are Bold & Delicious, Startin', STEP you, (miss)understood, UNITE!, is this LOVE?, Pride and alterna. My mom pointed out something interesting as well! She noticed how the tone of Ayu's voice changes depending on what song she sings but believes she is undenialbly an great singer. She also thinks she puts on a better show than what she's seen in America and has lots of energy ^-^; I'm SO excited my mom is an Ayu fanatic now! I'm going to go make her a CD of some of her songs

Considering her voice, Ayu is a great singer. I don't think she has that much of a nice sounding natural voice (subjective I know), but she sings excellent with what she got.

i was listening to her "sotsugyou sashin" acoustic live version and she had a good yet struggling voice, not considering her death ear. her very wide vibratos are from a weakening, tight throat. it's like, she drags it. this is more relevant in her recent songs. i guess she's leaning towards a jazzy voice to adjust to her circumstances. her voice is still strong and powerful, but she sounds tired a lot. its not as clear and soothing as up until her My Story era. plus, comparing the 10th anniversary version of YOU with the original, she has lowered the song a key (or two). this indicates that her voice has gotten weaker. her range has gotten more limited.

I personally like her how deep her voice has gotten. I was never tremendously impressed with her ability to hit high notes anyway. I think the voice she has now can only come with age and experience. It seems much richer, even if she does do the vibrato a bit much, I kind of like it xD;
