I appreciate the fact that she takes her time to do her thing, but this process should be faster right? Considering she works with demos and everything...

If it was the case that she herself would write the lyrics, compose the song and etc then I would understand, but she "only" do the lyrics, right?

The thing is, it seems that once again she has trouble finding demos she likes. That's one of the reasons why MUSE and PLAY got delayed back then.

Jolin had her composing debut as a co-composer on I'm Not Yours and Miss Trouble (PLAY) in 2014.
She also went to Sweden at the end of last year to learn things about electronic music since part of her electronic music is written by Swedish composers...

SHISEIDO TW 60th anniversary video

During SHISEIDO TW 60th anniversary press conference on March 8th, here's what she answered when asked about a new album release this year:
Quote:
“I’ll make a few songs. A new album… Maybe, maybe…”

Another excerpt from Milk X HK/TW interview back in January.

> Jolin basically chooses her demos "with her guts". She doesn't have a special idea beforehand of what she's looking for. While listening to the demo, she's thinking about what style it can become. If she knows instantly what she can do with it, she keeps it. But most of the time the final product is totally different from her first idea.
There are preliminary ideas [concept wise], she will choose the songs and the album's concept will come afterwards. She might also find new things when everything is completed. It's a stressful but fun process.

Maybe that freedom is what's making her albums more and more brilliant. Really, MUSE was spectacular, but PLAY was one of the best albums I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. I confess her composer debut was not my cup of tea because electronic pop music is not my style really. But everything else was perfect IMHO. That's why I'm not worried about new material. I'm pretty confident. The only Jolin album I ever felt was a step back was Butterfly. The others, from before and after, I feel it's her evolution as an artist, as a performer.

Butterfly was indeed a weak album - with the exception of the title track, that was great.
My fave album still is Myself. Still gorgeous from beginning to the end.
But compared to some of you, I'm also a long time fan.

I started with J-Game, but i think Agent J is my favorite album. Overall she has pretty strong title-tracks and singles.

If I had to decide, my favorite album might be Muse... though I also love Myself (Love Player is my favorite song). Play is also great, I'm a rather new fan and started with that album

For me, it goes like this
1. Myself
2. Play
3. Agent J
4. Muse
5. Dancing Diva
6. Castle
7. Butterfly
8. Magic
9. J-Game
10. Dancing Forever (I consider this album to be a mini-album with remixes as bonus tracks)

Even if I love Jolin, I dont care about her first four albums at all (1019, Dont Stop, Show Your Love, Lucky Number)

I've listened to Myself, MUSE and PLAY, but the last is for me her best work. I love this song:

Let's hope the next album is even better!!!

Album release in 2017 more and more unlikely to happen.

What Jolin said yesterday during a SHISEIDO event (nothing about the DVD release btw):
► It would be a bit rushed to release the new album in the second half of this year. There are MVs and choreographies to think about, Jolin is still trying different styles music-wise, she asks us to give her a little more time
► 1 or 2 songs will be recorded soon
► Last Thursday she recorded a new song for charity (release tentatively scheduled for May).

I still feel MUSE was a huge leap for Jolin. Up until MUSE, she was becoming more and more like an icon, but MUSE was when she finally owned it and put it on display in every video, every song, and on stage. I still remember seeing The Great Artist for the first time and thinking, Jesus, Jolin is proving a point here. She really is a force to reckon with.

I agree. It was a huge turning point for her IMO.

In China Jolin is "only" labeled as an "A-list" celebrity and not as an "icon/legend" like Jay Chou or aMEI.
Her turning points were Magic, and most of all Dancing Diva. With this album she became a star. Dancing Diva and Agent J are still considered as her peak... Her aura started plummeting afterwards, especially with Myself (it did "so-so" in Taiwan but flopped in China). MUSE has been more of a "mini-comeback" for her there. Some newspapers even said back then that it was her second best album after Dancing Diva.

MUSE is the album that gave her a lot more visibility worldwide, and it really refreshed her discography and videography.
Myself was only released 2 years before MUSE but when I listen to songs from Myself, I feel like they sound a bit... dated? compared to MUSE's.

MUSE was impressive because I think Jolin made every track count. It's also the first time I've seen an artist shorten the track list on their albums and heard an improvement. (I normally feel that the fewer the songs, the less likely I am to find more than one or two I like.)

There are ways I wish Jolin would scale back. One thing I've always admired Elva Hsiao for is that she proves she's an entertainer while making it look like she doesn't have to try to do that. I still feel that MUSE and Pei came off forced, but I still love watching Jolin's choreography and videos. I love that Pei was playful. MUSE was very much Jolin establishing her ground, but Pei was her having fun with it. I still think Phony Queen and Pei are two of her best PVs. It's awesome to see Jolin's humorous side.

Jesus Christ, aMEI is to me everything a respectable pop artist should strive to be. I didn't really fall in love with her until FACES OF PARANOIA. But that album and AMIT2 were back-to-back my favorite albums of 2014 and 2015. I just recently went back and listened to R U Watching Me?, and I'm still hoping someone who has the album can upload it for me, but aMEI is by far one of the most impressive people I've ever seen. I love that she is dripping with self confidence in herself and her image, and that she can entertain a crowd with top tier class. There's nothing gimmicky about her or her presence on stage. She can literally get a standing ovation with an empty stage and a handful of backup dancers. There's not enough good I can ever say about her. She's just one of very few people I've ever thought of as essential to music itself.
