I've seen CD-singles at Western music shops but I don't think their hyped about. I think it's just the song/MV itself, and not the actual CD.

I do remember there being promotions for the song One Track Mind. Yeah...first sales are not really important. I think that there are so many singers, and they have really large fanbases.
Yes there are. But they don't sell really well - because the albums are out, they just buy the albums instead of the singles. The point is, is that the PVs for the best songs on the albums, the radio play, the promotion etc etc. Only happens after the album has been released and directly before the release. In the US it is much more geared towards the sale of albums, in Japan it is geared towards the sale of the singles.

spacelion: Thanks for sharing that! I'll add to the list.

truehappiness: I think American artist can sale a lot because they are known worldwide. Britney's first album sold like... 21 millions copies worldwide and that's because she was also popular all over the world. She had as much fans in the US than in the UK, Australia or Japan.

American artists about singles, is more like...since the whole album is most of the time isn't worth listening too...what they call "filler" so that's why album sales are like that. Originally, in the past, singles used to precede albums. And nowadays, many people are debating over whether to go back to it or not. But the final verdict, is that a lot of them are scared. They are saying that they should go back to singles because people just buy the 1-2 songs off the album they like with iTunes if they want to be legal, and then other 10 songs just go waste.

Yeah...

And ayumi alone sold in asia, so I think that's good

As neither Fly high nor kanariya can be gotten in retail stores any longer I suspect they both finally reached their total possible sales of 300,000? Or at least very close to it, only a few forgotten stores having a copy left of it.

I belive that guess is pretty good, I'd be happy if someone could give their point of view.

Well Oricon did put 'Fly high' at like 299,500 or something right? So that's already pretty close even if it did sell more once it left the top 200

^It is, but I'm thinking more of kanariya, as it's just as gone as Fly high is, even if there, according to the numbers here, are 11,000 copies left.

Maybe, but what makes that unlikely is that, in that case, Fly high wasn't :/

I said it because of all the previous posts.

Clarification of what I wrote (it was a bit unclear - I admit):
Maybe, but what makes that unlikely is that, in that case, Fly high did not have 11,000 copies that was 'lost' overseas while kanariya had.

Explanation:
In case there was 11,000 copies that ended up overseas for kanariya and is not being counted by ORICON it makes me wonder why Fly high did not end up with 11,000 copies overseas as they were two consecutive releases, both limited to 300,000 copies.

This discussion came to this point because I still belive that both kanariya and Fly high have sold out their 300,000 copies or at least very close to that number - as they are impossible to find, new, in store. I can't see why 11,000 copies of kanariya would just disappear, unsold.
