I think it's pop fluff. I really don't like the verse melody - it's very awkward. The chorus is okay, but overall, I'm not crazy about it. I'm surprised - usually if an Ayu song has a poor melody or lyrics, the arrangement is at least awesome. But "BLUE BIRD" feels like its not sure what it wants to be: cheerful pop, driving rock, sunny dance. A song doesn't have to stick to one style, but if it's going to mix (which Ayu usually does - with excellent results), it should at least be done with skill. Morimoto Koji = new arranger... not sure how I feel about him. If that's the case, I'm not sure how I'll feel about Beautiful fighters, either (which he also arranged).

I'm really most excited for the Ladies Night remix. tasuku rocks my world.

The arrangement is definitely not workin'. Way too poppy and polished for this day and age. Worthy of maybe an anime theme song, and that's it. (I'll put money on saying it's done by HAL). Yeah, this is just not working for me so far. It MIGHT grow on me.

Born To Be... is just now starting to grow on me. But even that song shows a lot more originality than this one. X_X

Of course they do, or else they wouldn't be here. I'd rather some people constructively criticize rather than everyone just automatically excepting everything as great.

Yeah... The comments I read over at AYUNITE! were all positive but that may have changed...

Well I guess Ayu can't please everyone... I mean, basically everyone was saying how she should do songs like older stuff and when she does they freak out and say "THIS IS TOO MUCH LIKE _______" "SHE USED THE SAME WORD" , lol... Well I think this is way better than anything she has released since STEP you/is this LOVE? which is an amazing single! I know Beautiful Fighters will be great but people will complain prob. that is sounds too much like "independent" which I have been hearing alot of... I love independent but I don't think Beautiful Fighters sounds too much like it - independent has more fun energy! You can't blame Ayu for trying to regain some of her fanbase that really liked her older stuff - maybe she is trying to make stuff that will bring older fans back and make them feel nastalgic?

I think this is one of those songs that non-Ayu fans would like. It is very enjoyable and catchy - make you wanna dance. Most people that don't like Ayu or haven't heard of her like songs like "Moments", "STEP you", you know the drill.

Anyways, I am glad she has moved on from her "trying totally new stuff" phase and the songs like "Bold & Delicious" "Startin'" "(miss)understood" - these songs don't have much REPLAY value to me - good at first but then they level off... I still don't know why so many people seem to like "(miss)understood" better than "MY STORY" which I love alot more! Probably my favorite Ayu album, then comes Memorial Address and LOVEppears...

If this song sounded like her older stuff, I would love it, but I don't. I don't get people saying that it sounds like the Rainbow album, because I think every track on Rainbow is superior to this.

To me I mostly hear fairyland and Born to Be. fairyland for the instrumentation and feeling in the song and Born to Be for the melody.

When I think of Rainbow, I think of heartplace, Free and Easy, Hanabi, Over, Voyage, Real Me, We Wish etc etc. I don't hear Blue Bird in there at all, except maybe marginally in July 1st or everywhere nowhere.

To me it sounds mainly like her post Rainbow pop tracks - especially the ones within the last 2 years.

Me too. the closest song I can see people comparing it to would be 'everywhere nowhere', but that song had far more style and an awesome arrangement.

I agree on everything you say, but I don't find all too much of the critique very constructive. But I'm sort of picky when it comes to what's constructive critique.

anime_fanatic21, you made a lot of good points.

I feel there's a lot I want to say, but I can't find the words to write it down. *sighs at himself*

I can agree that this song does not have much to say versus the period of, say, RAINBOW, but I don't like comparing all too much. I get the feeling we will accept the songs of the coming album over the years and later compare it to her coming releases and talk about how great those times was, haha. All depending on how long she will keep going, though.

(we does not neccessarily mean all of us)

What hasn't been constructive about my critique? I've never once bashed Ayu or the song, but simply given reasons for why I don't think it is her best release. People who say "OMG that sucks" - that's unconstructive. But often times you will get a lot of the opposite kind of replies like, "OMG that rocks" - I would call that unconstructive praise. I like it when people can back up why they like a track as well as why they don't like it. So long as there are people doing both of those things, I don't see what the problem is.

I agree with that. I remember being sort of disappointed with MY STORY when it first came out, and judging by the singles I was sure (miss) understood would be better. But for me, it wasn't. And when I went back and listened to MY STORY, I thought to myself, "Wow, these songs are actually REALLY good compared to her recent stuff", and with BLUE BIRD, I'm probably going to go listen to Beautiful Day and fairyland and deem them brilliant.

Oh, sorry, I did not intend to sound like I was aiming that on you especially, I find your critique constructive, what I maybe don't like as much is the comparing. When I write it this way it sounds like I really hate your comparing, I don't. (!)

I don't like unconstructive praise either, but it actually did make me happy to see a lot of praising for the first time since I found out about Ayu *points at BLUE BIRD*. Well, when I start writing down my thoughts it makes them seem rock hard, I do not care very much, as I have said earlier I like to discuss things and different views. It's interesting because you have been a fan for quite some time more than I have .

(I don't like the word fan, is there anything else I could/should call it?)

Also, I've listened to the preview of BLUE BIRD a few times now, but I will wait with giving my thoughts untill I've let it sink in, I want to give it tomorrow aswell. Maybe I won't listen to it more untill it's released. (sneak peak: I like it a lot, the constructiveness will have to wait ). The mp3 seem to be normalized in a very bad way, if it is we won't know untill the single is released. The chorus really seem a bit low, sounds a lot like normalization to me.

I edited my last post a bit right after I posted it and added some, I don't know if you noticed.

Yes! I burned it on CD and noticed that I need to turn it up when the chours comes on or it sounds too low and weird - like the energy of the chorus has been sucked out a bit...

There will definately be more "power" in the official single when it's released. At least that's what I hope, because I truly hate when they normalize the CDs.

True. I have tried to "normalize" a CD when I once burnt it so all tracks would't too loud and same volume and hated the outcome!

....

Koji Morimoto ain't the new arranger, people xD He's the mixer of the song.

He's been the mixer since like.. forever XDD [he's on the OBI for fairyland if you want to see]

See? :]

Basically he chooses like.. how loud some things will be in the song and etc. that arrangers don't do.. [Arrangers usually select the musical instruments that goes along with the composition]..

I find it a bit hard to memorize this song.. I want the lyrics now. I remember when fairyland was all awkward for me and then I got used to it <3

About everywhere nowhere:

That guy/girl, Pop ,was a one time composer /sob I wonder if 'pop' will come back xD
