Ayu is practically a legend who has broken loads of records, while Ai imo is just an artist which has a fairly solid fanbase. Ai has just gone past her 2005 peak and now she evidently sells less. Most artists never get a long lived popularity streak like our Ayu does.

I don't think Ayu is in trouble. She'll always be an artist with a certain high status and who'll have a fairly big fanbase. Yet a boost would definitely help.

Personally I think it should be something relatively "new".

I agree, and honestly as long as she keeps making music, that is as good as it is now, she'll be fine. And I guess she could start doing some charity work (releasing a new single with all the profit going to charity), but then AVEX might not like that much. And it's true Ayu pretty much did do everything she could.Oh and I love the dorama idea. And considering that GUILTY had 2(+1) singles promoting it, I think it's doing great, others would need more HIT singles to sell their albums that good.So far I think she won't be stopping anytime soon.

I think something that would be good for her is if she did something like Yume no uta/Futari de...like with Koda Kumi? If she re-mastered the same composition to two different arrangements and then did a project with that. It could be cool.

Major difference!
Kingdom kinda has like twice as many PVs [not clips] and a full concert with it. XD

It SHOULD have done better. If it hadn't, then it'd just end up like BoA's future album, THE FACE..

Lol Ayu's been there and done that already somewhat. Not really a project with a storyline and two different PVs, but WHATEVER has Version M/Version J that's the same composition but different arrangement on the same single. And for singles on studio albums there's LOVE~Destiny~/LOVE~refrain~ and Endless sorrow/Endless sorrow ~gone with the wind ver.~

I think Ayu's good just doing her own thing and leaving Kumi alone .

i think ayu need to change her music style to somewhat 'light' and 'fun', not 'dark' and 'depressing' songs

^I'd just like a bit more variety on her albums. The last few releases have really focused on certain genres (except for the obligatory winter ballad & summer song)

^I just think she uses the pop-rock genre too much. I would mind another Kanariya or Hanabi. I hope for her next album to sound something more like (M)U. That album was filled with variety.

So why ayu with a pretty consistent popularity now (the difference between last year's Secret album to GUILTY will be less than 100,000) should feel threatened? Her sales are pretty well, not decreasing too much, her popularity kinda remain the same.
The tour are selling out pretty quickly, she's going on an actual ASIA TOUR, ayu is far from being in trouble imo.

On the other hand, her popularity won't sky rocket or go up without special "features".

agree, she cant get #1 because she must beat kobukuro and i think it's too hard to do it...
her sales not decreasing too much like misia, mai kuraki or other artist get popularity but now they lost it...

Hey, another LOVEppears would be awesome. I love that album a lot, and yes, I agree that Ayu's using too much rock pop genre nowadays. Not that I really complain, because rock music is awesome. But I like those songs on LOVEppears, because there's so much trance, which is wonderful genre imo. <3

And the monthly position isn't bad. I like that. <3

Btw, I was a bit horrified when I saw how much Koda Kumi's Kingdom has sold in two days. I bet it will rise, but yeah, I was like "Wtf?" at first, because I love her Kingdom album. It's awesome. <3

I think we've already seen a lot of that. her singles from Bold&Delicious to glitter were all 'light' and 'fun.' She hasn't had a ballad CD single since HEAVEN in 2006.

True that. KOBUKURO is pretty insurpassable at this point. (Not that I mind too much...I love those guys.) Ayu's still got some tricks up her sleeve. I wished for an album more like "Duty" and I think I got it with "GUILTY." I loved 'LOVEppears," but I don't think I'd wish for another album like that...the dance era is over and done with in Japan these days. I'd like to see her release an album that is more in the rock-vein...with her upbeat/fun songs more like "independent," and "July 1st," and her dark songs like "End of the World," "talkin' 2 myself," and "Together When..."

I'd also love to see her do a reprise of "A Song for XX." I love it when she does that. Actually, I'd love to see her re-sing her entire "A Song for XX" album as a Session 002 version like on A BALLADS. XD
