@thinkingoutloud Hmmn cool. 2NE1's the only (recent) group I listen to that's not a rock band. They're also the only KPOP group I listen to. Anyways I didnt know that but that fact is cool. In this case I think only reason releases should take soooo long is do to concert tours and other such promotions.
@Isicio Just curious, but why is it you believe CL will not be successful? I personally admit, YES, I'm very excited for this album she's preparing. I loved her past solo work and am looking forward to more from her. Not to mention a chance to buy her new album in my own local store. Lately many of the American artist come backs I've been waiting on have let me down *cough* Gwen Stefani *cough* Kelly Clarkson *cough* and I could use something at the moment to bring back that excitement that's worth waiting for. Anyways, I've been reading many of the articles on CL's possible success and honestly, at least half a paragraph on each keeps repeating on how she's signed with Scooter Braun & I Am The Best has been on a few US radio stations etc. They tried using a similar tactic when BoA debuted in the US, writing all these things to pump everyone up. However in the end I really think it all depends on 2 major things in America: (1) proper promotion & (2) the common public's own personal opinion. CL hasn't let me down before, however, I'm not making my final judgement til I hear for myself what she'll be putting out. Still I find it exciting that she's trying this at all.

^it doesn't apply to every artist, but yes - concerts and promotions are mostly the only reason (and off course off time from work) that makes the gaps between releases. Lana Del Ray (like her or not), could basicly pop out an album every year, so does lady gaga (she said so once, but her label was against it). Rihanna almost did that, and her recording sessions start three month prior every album.
Many song dont take long to make. sia wrote Rihannas "Diamonds" in 15min - and it is an awsome song. In K-Pop this is special though, since most labels try to avaoid each other and the promotion spans a pretty long. Moreover, these are idols that have more jobs and tend to be blocked for music promotions for a certain amount of time (Dara).

^I honestly don't know, it is probably related to these music shows and the prices they can win/attention they can get. The whole affair is not as noticeable anymore (or maybe I'm just not following that cloesely anymore, since most of my favs aren't doing anything), but two years ago many releases got pushed back and forth to obviously "avoid" each others "comeback" (I hate the term comeback, its not like they disbanded or went on hiatus or anything)

^Korea probably just uses the expression as they just see it as meaning "haven't been doing promotions or new music recently so here's those things". There's some terms they use in Japan as well I've heard which they probably also use in a different meaning than the Western World. I've just gotten used to em, shrug it off & leave it be.... like how Japan is the ONLY country I know of to call "music videos" as "PVs". When I was first introduced to it back in the late 90s it confused me a bit at first.

@ILoveGeniuses I'm excited too, 2NE1 are my favorite girl band and the only I like I think haha, I hope CL's have more good look then BoA and Utada, maybe she will have a track feat Nicki Minaj, Jessie J, Rihanna, Ke$ha, Lady Gaga or Britney!! hahaha

I heard a rumor CL's already gotten scheduled in to be on Ellen DeGenres show this Spring... Of course I can't confirm it, but it'd be cool if she were. America's Got Talent & SYTYCD would be totally awesome as well.
Also "CL Featuring Lady Gaga"!!!

CL would need to do something with someone popular, so ellen would work I think. Knowing the monsters, they would probably spread word about CL if she worked with lady gaga. Didn't Utada do a few shows top back in the day? I don't know how that went.

As much as I want her to be successful, it's going to be tough simply because she's Asian. But I trust the producers she's working with. She has a lot of swag and attitude. I played MTBD at a party and people were HELLA turnin' up to it.

I don't care about American debut. American music market doesn't interest me anymore, with these Bieber, Cyrus, Nicky Minaj and other trash.
Idk if she suceeds or not. I care more about new 2ne1 music, besides my 2ne1 bias has always been Park Bom, and I'm more interested to know if YG's gonna let her out or bury her due to the scandal

^OK. Didn't know that. I had heard the previous. And in this case they could also make Solo Debuts here, but groups wouldn't really work. There's VERY FEW of em here that are popular and most are mainly aimed at teens and tend to vanish in like half a decade. I will say I'd like to see more solo work from Bom, Dara & Minzy soon. Also, changing subject, but didn't YG say we were supposed to get all those previous SINGLE ONLY SONGS put together on album by end of last year?
