There are many possible reasons that she doesn't compose anymore. I think the main reason has to do with Ayu not pushing herself to very high standards like she did years ago. And also an increasing focus on live performances over everything else. I don't think Ayu has the drive for that anymore. She is comfortable with her current output.

The reason why she started composing was because nobody could give her a composition that she was truly satisfied with iirc. I think she just also doesn't feel the need for composing anymore as long as she gets compositions she's happy with. Very visible with (m)u.

I think she still does it once in a while just that they aren't good enough in her eyes probably to fit her vision.

Omg you're right, there's a possibility that we won't be able to get ayu's new albums =/ For example, EXO's japanese albums were banned from being shipped abroad (at least on cdjapan), and they're distributed by avex... But i think you can order via tenso if you really want it so much that you are willing to pay a higher price?

Maybe they will at least release any future music on iTunes on the day of release. Kumi Koda’s recent Remix album release showed up on its release day on iTunes. Not an ideal as I would like to start getting Ayu’s albums again in physical form but I could be ok with digital downloads.

I will never understand Japan’s obsession with making sure us international fans don’t get to purchase any of their items. First they won’t allow CDJapan and YesAsia to count our purchases towards ORICON, and now outright banning!? It doesn’t affect me TOO much since I can just stream but sometimes I want the physical edition... sad.

Anyone know why A BALLADS' wiki page shows a release date of March 12, 2018??

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Ballads

I don't remember Avex announcing they'd be reprinting it or anything about the 15th anniversary of the album...did I......err......blink and miss the discussion about it?

It's not Japan's ban though, it's avex's. I wonder why they're doing this... Like, what's the point?

I happily forgot all about the ban...

As for the reason, I think it's up to some interpretation, but I remember reading somewhere that Avex said the items were never meant to be sold outside Japan and retailers have made a mistake until now. That might mean Avex fears copyright consequences for itself and they interpret JASRAC's rules harshly. Japanese firms need to pay royalties to local copyright organizations if they sell music to other countries, which would mean Avex hasn't done that. If that's true, we can hope other labels aren't as stupid.

Was this the ban to do with Avex Entertainment Pictures or something? The one to do with animes?

My last few orders were Avex artists - BoA, DAI & Kumi and they all came from YesAsia fine.

I think it's just their anime related goods usually?

Someone else mentioned this some time ago. I guess they still have not corrected the mistake. There has been no news on A Ballad being rereleased.

Other companies don't seem to have this ban though, so this reason doesn't really make sense to me

It's not just anime. CDJapan didn't ship EXO's albums abroad, and I've heard about other artists too but I don't remember which ones. I'm not sure how YesAsia deals with it though, maybe they don't care about requests from avex lol

Edit: I just researched other artists whose albums CDJapan doesn't ship abroad. I have no idea if all of them are avex or not. TVXQ, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sandaime J Soul Brothers (EXILE TRIBE), BIGBANG, Generations (EXILE TRIBE), Daichi Miura, Maria Nishiuchi, Fairies, EXILE. And some of those releases don't come with a DVD

Iirc, it was just for Avex Entertainment's properties (animes like Yuri on Ice and Osomatsu-san), but some retailers interpreted that as ALL avex properties. I'm pretty sure someone here had an ayaka album preordered that was cancelled by YA or CDJapan when the news came out, but it was a mistake.

Seems weird that avex would ban the sales of their artists' CDs when they have some of their complete discographies up on global Spotify.

CatGirl is probably right.
When the news came out retailers like amazon.jp, CDJapan and YesAsia stopped shipping out all avex' items internationally, but soon it was made clear it was meant for Avex Entertainment's releases.
Since then afaik YesAsia and amazon.jp isn't a problem anymore and for CDJapan it just seems to affect some artists.

But if it was a mistake, then why does CDJapan still ban some of the releases? Iirc, for example, EXO's album was announced way later than it was clarified that it was by mistake

Edit: I checked Amazon.jp and YesAsia and that particular EXO album is available on both, so perhaps CDJapan just hasn't realised that it's a mistake yet?

^ Yes.

^^ I think the problem is albums generally because I have always bought lol's singles (they are from avex trax, just like Ayu) but I had to buy the album in YesAsia because is not available in CDJapan.

Yikes, glad I don't order from CDJ anymore!

It does seem an odd decision when Avex put stuff up on release date on iTunes and Spotify.
