Not really. The new batch of Ayu songs attract immediate attention but divides her fans. They're still good. Compared to M, Startin/Born To Be/Step You had more mixed reactions, and the people who thought it was good were obsessed with the song while the people who hated it really loathed it. M on the other hand, generated similar reactions to everybody. It was either "Oh good song" or "meh, boring" to the masses. Probably you don't really need mega-catchy song to strike gold, just a normal good one?

The level of negativity in this forum has gotten so bad, that I'm ready to get the hell out of here and spend more time in a gentler forum where most of those who post are really Ayu no.1 fans.
You're not the only one with that taste, me too.. However, negativity provokes conflicting thoughts, and this in turn creates more ideas. So its actually better than going to a place where everyone agrees with everything. Scary, a place with zero drama is like:

Fan 1: Wasn't Teens awesome?
Fan 2: Yes! Wasn't Humming 7/4 awesome?
Fan 3: Yes! Wasn't Dearest awesome?
Fan 1: Yes! Wasn't I Am... awesome?
Fan 2: Yes! Wasn't Startin' awesome?

I'm sorry but in the real world not everyone loves everything. I refuse to allow myself to fall into some warp making me google anime eyes all over Ayumi Hamasaki and the current lack of originality going on. I appreciate some of her older work all the way up to HEAVEN.

There were songs between that I hated as well. I believe that she's just releasing a bunch of crap. None of this stuff can stick in my head and I'm the type of person that can listen to one song straight for 5 hours with no problem. I still dont know the melody to any of her current singles.

She is Bland & Tasteless now.

No, they're not good. I guess you didn't realize, but I was stating my opinion, not yours. I think the quality of songs is continuing on the downhill since 2000. Don't agree? Too bad.
There is a large lack of originality in Ayu's songs. I also find it humorous, as someone else stated, that Ayu's songs were more original when she considered herself Ayu's product than they do when she's trying to be "herself."

People keep saying its the production value that made this video crappy. Umm no it isnt, If ayu:

a) Reduced the damn lights so we could actually see her
b) had more angles
c) got rid of everyones new best friend

then this video would have been amazing!

Or if someone with talent had directed this video, then it would've been good.

Was I blind throughout that whole PV or what?

I kept trying to adjust my monitor's contrast and brightness to no avail.

Ok, I think the majority has a major dislike for this PV, including myself. We get it. Ayu isn't superhuman and with her busy lifestyle, can't keep producing hits one after another.

But trying to single out every person posting the positives they found in this or stepping all over their hope for ayu in the future isn't exactly helping the case (or this board's self-esteem). Somehow, this whole discussion is becoming one-sided, and true, debating is healthy for a forum, but when it becomes ripping apart posts and trying to prove these few people wrong in some way...it just makes me sick, really.

I'm sorry. Anyone that is dumb enough to make a music video of something that will cause pain to the viewers and fans shouldn't be excused.

Common sense would say "thats too bright." "that might hurt someone's eyes."

This is probably a Peco Production.

I don't think 'unoriginal' would be the best term to use for her newer releases.. In my opinion, the most unoriginal albums (composition-wise) in her discography are A Song for XX and LOVEppears.. You can take basically any song from her debut album and paste it to a Japanese RPG video game. And LOVEppears is just.. techno. However, I think what made those albums so special is her spirit and her lyrics, you can 'feel' Ayu in those songs. Now she's just churning out songs for certain causes (such as Olympics, movies, video games). I don't think she was inspired to write 'Born To Be...', I'm sure it was written specifically for the promotion of the Winter Olympics, and even the PV suggests it.

I don't think she's being herself with this music, I think she's just making excuses because she knows that she has made better. She's 27, she needs to stop with the sugary coated, "it's a beautiful day" engrish fairyland ladies night garbage, and get some influence. Is she trying to market to 10 year old's now? My interest in her upcoming releases is really waning.

Of course, but the same people constantly reforming sentences only to say the same thing is really just redundant...and also a pain in the butt to scroll through, while trying to view maybe differing opinions on the PV.

Reading through this thread is most possibly a bigger eye-sore than the PV, actually.

Wow some of you can find meaning in anything! Anyone found the meaning in the way Ayu flicks her hair back, yet?

The usual AHS Ayu-related thread nowadays:

Person A: It sucks, she's ugly, she needs to give up on life. (acting like their opinion is supreme)
Person B: It's amazing! I love the part where blah blah blah...
Person A: *makes some wise-ass comment to person B*
Person C: I'm sick of all your comments, why are you here if you don't like Ayu?
Person A: Oh so, I'm not allowed to state my opinion?
Person C: No, it's bashing.
Person A: *goes into some lecture about how idiotic Ayu fans are*
Person D: (usually someone who doesn't post very much) OMG U R SOOO MEAn!!! HOW DARE U TALK ABOUT AYU LIK THAT?! U BURN IN HELLL!!!!11

This is the exact layout everytime an opinion thread emerges. What exactly are any of you trying to prove to each other all the time? NO ONE'S OPINION IS SUPERIOR. STOP ACTING LIKE IT. Because you do. WHEN YOU KEEP REPEATING THE SAME OPINION IN ALMOST EVERY SINGLE THREAD, YES, you do.

*waits for Person A to reply with something smart*

I just watched the PV for the first time, and I find something rather ironic: while most people here are saying it's too bright, I don't find it too bright. But this is from the person who complains that she can't see anything but shadows in the dark PVs.

After a while the lights get a little boring. I wish they would change in frequency and dimness (is that even a word?) but I do like the water effect and some of the camera angles are very flattering - I think the sporadic camera movements make up for the fact that Ayu herself isn't moving around. I was a little put off though that scene changes don't occur until over halfway through the PV...I wish they would begin them sooner, and then space them out a bit more.

Overall a nice PV. I'll probably only skip it on a DVD half the time, unlike some of her others which I tend to skip nearly every time.

Agh.

People have different opinions. Many people gave (miss)understood really high praise, and they're not even Ayu fans. Look on the internet for reviews in English on it.. people liked a lot of the songs. It's just the /sarcastic quotes 'Veteran' Ayu fans who say 'o no her qualityz gone downz'. Especially when you say since 2000... because.. her megahits were in 2001-ish. Honestly, it looks like Ayu is so high up that some people will hate her music or PVs no matter what the effing hell she does in them. No one has any freakin' 'music' in mind but they just complain that what she does now sucks.

If she released a song like an old one, the people who complain will just say it's old and sounds like an old song.

If she does something new, the people who complain end up dismissing it as crap garbage.

What is Ayu to do to satisfy the needs of people like that? I don't think there's anything Ayu can do to do that.

Way to go, you've figured it out. I said that I loved 'Ladies Night' because it was a new, icky song.
