I was just jamming to Dearest while I was driving! Probably one of my favourite Ayu songs ever. Amazing how it's so timeless and listenable 18 years later.

The A museum performance of it will forever be iconic.

I'm curious what do you guys think Ayu will do after she retires? I know it will be when she physically can't sing/perform anymore, probably within the next 10 years or so. Part of me worries about how she will deal with not doing as much, since she seems like the definition of a workaholic. I'm thinking she might still write songs, but don't really know what else she would do that would satisfy her want to keep busy.

I was thinking the other day if her lack of magazine, commercial and music video releases (perhaps even lack of a lot of new music) was done so intentionally to let her public image have a soft reset, if you will.

By almost completely taking herself out of the public sphere, the only people who could see her are her fans, who wouldn’t generally be talking bad about her.

I do feel like there’s been a slight shift in discussion when it comes to Ayu.

Remember, she’s vintage now. She’s officially 20 years old. And she’s never really had a comeback, because she’s never really been gone. This has been her biggest break in public appearances, new videos, photo shoots, etc. that she’s ever had.

Madonna released “Confessions on a dance floor” 23 years after her debut, re-sparking interest in her after a lull in popular opinion. She was cool again (or at least respected), and proved she still had it. And it’s still a bomb album. She went back to her dance music roots.

Maybe my connection is weird, but well. That’s what got me thinking lol.

Hey guys, just think I just discovered something pivotal about the track RAINBOW.

The line “no rain, can’t get the rainbow.” It always bothered me because it didn’t make a ton of sense to me. First of all, it’s a double negative, or so I thought. I chalked it up to language barrier...

Until I realized I had been interpreting the line wrong all along. It’s not indicating that rain can’t REACH the rainbow. It’s indicating WITHOUT rain there IS no rainbow. Meaning without sorrow there is no happiness. Without dark times, there are no bright times. 雨の日がないと、晴れの日もないよ。

Not sure if anyone else ever caught onto this. But it really solves the mystery of the track for me, and entirely makes the song and it’s meaning all that much better!

That's how I always interpreted it. RAINBOW is such a great song, if only it was on the RAINBOW album..

I always thought the comma was just not where it should be and it was "no, rain can't get the rainbow" (as in even if it rains/things go wrong nothing will erase the rainbow/happiness)

I always interpreted it this way as well. A big reason I love the RAINBOW album so much is because it represents Ayu overcoming a darker era of her life. It's honestly my favorite album.

I thought it was pretty obvious that this was the meaning haha I think there's a proverb related to that but basically the idea of "No Pain No Gain".
