I too think she's arrogant.
Anyhow, as much as I'd like it this single probably isn't going to sell more than 115 because it seems to be doing well download wise. I long for the day (if and) when Ayu conquers both physical CD and download charts.

Just my 2 cents as a Hikaru fan xD:
For some reason, her songs apeals to a larger public than Ayu... Ayumi was aways kinda young female audience oriented (I'm not saying she only has fans on this group), while Hikki doesn't have problem on reaching males and females from all ages... but something o noticed is that a lot of japanese people still notice Ayu as a random idol... And even if she already released some of the most iconic japanese music ever and gained the respect from music critics, a part of the audience see her as a "dumb talentless pretty girl", what is kinda her fault for using (and sometimes even joking around with) her idol image... Hikaru on the other way, destroyed her own idol image as soon as possible to become something like a "strange talented musician" on audience eyes...

IMO they both are pretty much anti-idols, or anti-divas... But Hikaru is openly like that, while Ayu is an anti-idol on a more sarcastic way, she dress herself up as a idol, but act on the total oposite way idols act... And the problem with sarcasm is... not everyone gets it

yeah ive been a major hikki fan for a while now. . .for a long while i liked her so much more than ayu. then i came to the place i am now. i like them equally. although lately i tend to lean towards ayu as more of a role model and such. and her songs are more appealing to me lyrically and emotionally. it seems hikki just goes on without trying,. just so easily. she is in this world where her career is so major. and really ill never understand First Love and its success. i think maybe it was just the style of back then. i like her more experimental types. less mainstream. reason i always love ayu. compared to otehr artists on charts, her music stands out. . .and yeah ayu is not so much a diva at heart. i remember her saying in time how she didnt even think her career was going to last long at all really.

(more on topic) this single really should have done better. but its expected. and im still very happy with its current sales. even 111 k is pretty nice for ayu ^_____^

^ lol I know, I know and I personally liked the last few arashi singles better, as DBSK have wondered into the land of really generic stuff with the last couple of singles. I just wish arashi could pull another Tokei jikkake no umbrella with the new single, or at least something more "creative" and less cheesy I don't mind them at all

^ Yeah, I agree. Getting a bit off topic here, haha, but I've been saying in the Arashi thread that I feel their singles this year have been very safe sounding. They had much more creative singles in the past. The b-sides though for My Girl were great though.

What I've always heard about Utada Hikaru is that apparently R&B was pratically unexistant in Japan before she came along, so she gained lots and lots of attention for bringing something that sounded completely fresh. Dunno if it's true.

(I think crazy Utada fans are a lot scarier than Ayu or boyband ones because some can be total elitists with the whole "she-is-more-talented-than-u" stuff.)

3 Ayumi Hamasaki 50,453,743+
Both B'z and Mr. Children were around when Ayu was still a teenager in the 90s... I don't know if these numbers are up to date. (Ayu's numbers as far as I know, have everything before Y/B.)

With the way that they both sell, it's unlikely that she will ever overtake them.

47-49 million, I guess? I don't think they sold 2 million copies in the last 2 years considering I AM YOUR SINGER or whatever sold about 600k before the hiatus...

Quote:
4 Dreams Come True 49,893,000
5 Southern All Stars 47,083,000
If Ayu is able to maintain her sales of about 700-800k total sales per year, I don't think DCT can overtake her. It's pretty nice that Ayu's able to sit up there with people who were releasing when she was still a rebel in school, haha.

ayu sold until now since that Mr. Children oricon article with the sales article 48,622,047 in total!
I think that when she passes 50 million mark oricon would post something about it though not necessarily. (I just combined all of her albums+singles sales since the 4th week of A BEST 2 since that article was released at the start of A BEST 2's 4th week and until today's sales of You were.../BALLAD + 45,528,000 the article's number and it was a week after Mr. Children's HOME was released right?).

She's really not far from the 50 million mark and yeah she probably outsold Southern All Stars in total already and the is the 3rd best selling japanese artist overall. ^^

At this point I think that B'z will forever be the #1 best selling Japanese artists. XD

Btw SunshineSlayer I wanted to send you a PM regarding a question about an issue but your PM box is full as it wrote so I couldn't. =P

Ok, try sending it now.

I don't think Ayu will be taking over Mr. Children unless they suddenly just retire and never release anything again.

I also didn't realize that DCT was that close to her. Whoever between Ayu and DCT stays around the longest will likely end up the number 3.
