Question About AHS expenese

As most of us know, the links in the front page help AHS to earn money to pay for expenese, as said in this thread. therefore, there are a lot of people who are using it and helping out. i just have some questions about the expenese.

question 1= how much do they charge AHS for bandwidth? How do they calculate?

question 2= Is there any way we can help to save bandwidth?

question 3= What happens if the money from YesAsia is not enough? Do the staff pay for it?

I think we need Skal to answer this one ^^ I'll try to help answer... for #2, we have restrictions in how big your signature can be, and not hotlinking to AHS I guess would also help...
#3... I think if there wasnt enough money in the AHS account, perhaps we wouldn't do a contest for a while?

If hot-linking to AHS site is not allowed, then how can we promote this site? :?

You can make a hotlink of an image you uploaded yourself, the image doesn't have to be hosted at AHS for it to link to AHS when you click it.

Signatures aren't stored on the AHS server though, they're remotely linked from the user's space. AHS just stores the code needed to make the signatue and replicates it when someone posts. The restrictions are mostly for loading time.

Avatars are stored on AHS though, so the restrictions on those are for loading time and for bandwidth.

The best thing to do for AHS would probably be to use the YesAsia links when purchasing stuff there.

I guess if you wanted to save bandwidth you could switch to a minimalistic skin (such as mobile alabama, intended for use on mobile devices) and turn off signatures and avatar.

1&3: The staff pay the bills. There is no need for any member to be worried about it.

2: Here are some things you can do to help, in addition to what AyuRocks posted:
  • Don't hotlink to AHS avatars and smilies.
  • Use a smaller avatar.
  • Try not to use the attachment feature. Host your pictures at a free file hosting site instead.
  • Don't flood the forum with an excessive number of posts.

Thanks for wanting to help
