That's true what immel said, it's quite common in Europe and U.S. to lip-sync especially in TV-performances and also in some live-shows which I think it's crap :/ But as far as it comes to my opinion about ayu doing lip-sync, I really doubt that se would do a lip-sync without a proper reason :S I've watched many of her liveperformances and the seasons video from page1 was the first one that sounded and looked like a lip-sync.

Yeah I agree, Ayu must have a good reason for lip-synching. And she only lip-synched like once or twice. So it`s really no big deal.

lip-synchs are not uncommon, I don't think its a bad thing either. As long as they're lip synching to their own songs.
(they're could be certain reasons for lip synching, too.) As long as it's not like every concert.

It's not common in Japan though.(although it is begining to get a little more so) And I definitely think it is a bad thing. There is NO good reason to do it other than possibly being very sick. And even when Ayu was very sick at CDL 02-03, she still sang live. Those that do it without a very good reason are either lazy or cowards. I mean who cares if your voice might crack or something? At least it's real.

I don't think Ayumi lip-synchs that much. You can see that in most of her live performances. If she's out then she'd just let it go wrong and rather embarrasing herself on the stage than "faking" it.

That's what I like about ayu.... but man, practice more for us, ya ayu?

I'm only aware that she's done it once, and I think it was for a performance of Theme Of A-Nation '03

^I don't know if you did, but if you read through this thread, that performance was discussed quite a lot, and I think our discussion more or less led into that she did not, it was simply the DVD that was edited.

Now, I've got a question: When most performances are lip-synched, is it usually the CD track? Or do some artists maybe sing it in rehearsal and then use that when they are in front of an artist.

For example...

I recall Ayumi lip-synching that SEASONS performance, and that was clearly the CD track. But for the theme of a-nation '03 (or any other) performance, could it have been performed while she was rehearsing, and then used at the actual live performance?

(I gotta stop asking so many questions...)

@Chibi_Venus - Unless someone at this board got personal experiance from what's going on backstage on those huge performances I belive we may never know.

It is a possibility to consider, that artists re-record the song so that it won't be as apparent that they are actually lip-synching the song, because when a song is sung live it never sounds the same as on the CD track...

I still do not want to think that theme of a-nation '03 was lip-synched, but if it was I think it was made the way you say.

I think we should probably ask someone who went to CDL05-06.. anyone? :p

I don't think she lipsynched.. usually you're able to tell off the bat when someone has lipstnched a song.. but Ayu looks like she's actually singing.. save for that one segment where it goes a bit off..

I think that she wouldn't do that kind of thing because it's like lying to the fans.. especially when they PAID to see her. (plus she got a bit of rest due to the long introduction to it..).. :] You could also hear slight breathing while she sang

When you only mimic to a pre-recorded vocal track.

I don't know, but in the Countdown 2004-2005 was she lipsynching the bridge part of "M" after "Duty"? Because it sounded like she was but then it doesn't and then it sounds like shes having the record song on while singing with it. I don't blame her if she is though because that part goes really high.

No, I'm a 100% sure that she didn't, because it's very hard to just lip-synch parts of a song during a live performance. If it seems to be lip-synched on the DVD it might just be that the part in question was "repaired" in the way that other songs have been.

Yep, sometimes artists request to re-sing/voice over some songs that are not up to standard.

About ayu lip-synching, I always wondered about this live performace of CAROLS. There's the part when it goes all quiet and ayu sings the super high chorus, right? Well, there was this little slip when ayu moved the mic (quite far) away from her mouth for a split-second, but the volume and strength of her voice remained exactly the same. That got me wondering. I'll try to upload that segment here..

If it stayed exactly the same, maybe she achieved exactly what she intended moving the mic would achieve? You know, so that it won't go too lound, but stay normal.

I know the performance of that song pretty well, seen the DVD all too many times, the song sounds so much live it could possibly do, hmm. I should watch the tour again some time soon, and think about CAROLS especially.

And as it is on the DVD, we can never be sure anyway if it's just a repaired part, or what actually happened.

Nope, I'm not talking about the MY STORY tour CAROLS. That one was lovely and I believe she sang it well live.

I'm talking about this two performances.

04-09-30 CAROLS AX MUSIC-TV
http://download.yousendit.com/20695408573D4C2D

04-10-08 CAROLS Music Station Special
http://download.yousendit.com/D14A2B933C969C18

Maybe she did move the mic away on purpose, so it won't be too loud. But there are performances, such as the CAROLS she did for Best Artist 2004, where she kept the mic close to her mouth during the same part and she sounded exactly the same. That's why I think that she might have lip-synched those performances. Maybe 'cause her throat was sore?
