I recently listened to pacific and color again after not listening to them FOR YEARS and it's not the same anymore. =/

But I have to say that I'm kind of glad that they're only four members now. (And to think they were FREAKING NINE in the beginning!) At least now everyone gets a chance to shine. It was quite annoying how YamaPi and Nishikido got solos, TEGOMASU got main vocal tracks, while Koyama and Shige got only a duet with weird-ish lyrics.

9 members in any group is tough (HSJ another prime eg. but at least their popularity is quite evenly matched except for Daiki & Yamada who're the main crowd drawers) and also I think the group dynamics affected NEWS to a certain extent

It was quite obvious after Taka , Uchi & Kushino left , the main ones that drew NEWS a lot of fans were Yamapi and Ryo

It might seem sad seeing NEWS go from 9 to 4 members but I feel they're doing good now even though I know when Yamapi & Ryo (he feels like a different person in NEWS unlike when he's with Kanjani8 where he's more himself when with the other 6 noisy ones LOL) announced they were leaving , Koyama was exceptionally sad and really considered to just disband NEWS together

I'm glad in the end they decided to stick it out. Chankapana was a great comeback single song for 4 nin NEWS & that goes for their comeback self titled album too

If you could , you should give NEVERLAND a listen . It's surprisingly good . White & QUARTETTO weren't that good , imo

I remember how back in the day Shige did an April Fool's prank on Koyama saying that YamaPi and Nishikido will leave and Koyama said something like "We're finished" to that. lol
Glad, they weren't finished even without those two. ^^ Like I wrote above, at least now everyone gets a chance to shine.

And I'll consider listening to that album. Thanks. ^^

And I remembered Yamapi used to say that he will not leave NEWS :x I can understand for Ryo as for him to juggle 2 bands' activities , it ain't easy . I always feel that he's more himself when he's in Kanjani8 , he has to be more well behaved and less loose in NEWS haha

I feel that now that it's 4 in a group , it's just nice . When a group's too big , it can get hard to manage

I hope NEWS can release something new soon but now that Shige's busy with his new butai , I think that have to wait . Fans were saying that Tegomass might be coming back with something but now I don't know if it's true

4-member NEWS really allowed them to have more time to be more experimental with their music which I really appreciated. Also, looking back, a lot of the old NEWS songs did not age well at all lol.

Basically 90% of touch. Like Akaku Moyuru Taiyou. Christ. That was such a bad song. Or even most of the B-sides during their 8-member days - I used to love NANDE x 2 DAME, but I can't even finish the song. That said, I'm not saying that there were no merits then. I.ZA.NA.I.ZU.KI is still a really great song, and obviously still a fan favourite - rightfully so. SHOCK ME as well. I'm glad that they've steered clear from the typical cheesy and corny sounding boyband sound and moving to a more experimental and artistry driven pop sound.

Yes I agree , some of the old songs that 9/8 members NEWS sang back in the old days , listening to them now does make me cringe at times

But in a way it's quite a sight to see how much NEWS has progressed music wise . They weren't that experimental in the past but quartet NEWS now has been more bolder in tackling music styles they never done before

I'm surprised that NEWS actually sounds quite good in doing angsty rock like NEVERLAND's BLACK FIRE . I was a bit shocked cos it's not what they're known for but they tackled it quite well

That's what kind of irked me about NEWS in the beginning, Johnny's seemed to throw random pop songs at them. KAT-TUN had a more mature sound, Kanjani8 a more playful sound, but NEWS seemed to not really have a direction. I mean, KAT-TUN and Kanjani8 have all types of different songs, too, but it seemed Johnny's didn't really know what to do with NEWS.
I'm glad when you say that they have a more experimental pop sound now. It seems they found their own sound. ^^

And Nishikido is actually one of the more tame Kanjani8 members. lol Perhaps he just gets swept by all the craziness around him.
