Recochoku 2009 Yearly Ranking
I did post this in the other thread, but I realized that it probably doesn't fit in too well with the You were... rankings, haha.
The yearly rankings are pretty impressive. She also did well in the overall rankings as the best solo female in Chaku-Uta and Chaku-Uta Full. The Days rankings are kinda crazy and should have higher download totals given that it ranked the highest in most areas... This seems to suggest that Days probably performed very similarly to Sunrise in total downloads for Chaku-Uta [500k+ or more?] Spoiler:

Maybe this suggest that Ayu fans shifted to digital since Days/Next level/sunrise sales were kinda low for those high rankings~
It's funny because GREEN's single is like 10x more expensive than days, yet days was received better. Well she didn't really performed GREEN... shouldn't it be wiser to make it a Bside then? Or PVs doesn't count as much as others? But it's nice to see so many people interested in days as I was! And sunrise too! ^.^ URGH exile/Greeeen/Arashi are like the only ones in front of her!!! D< |

I am glad that even though Ayu might not be among the most popular celebrities in Japan right now her songs and PVs are still obviously well liked by general public.

Well at least her digital sales are doing better! Days must have been super popular, the physical single sold well and now the digital sales are great!

Days did extremely well. I'm also surprised at Arashi being so high because I didn't think they were that big of digital sellers.
Aren't there several female artists ranked higher than Ayu though? Or do you mean that she is the highest ranked female in the overall chart? (meaning sales for her entire discography, not just this years songs) Sorry, the like millions of charts can get confusing. Last edited by SunshineSlayer; 9th December 2009 at 10:29 PM. |

Almost everyone's WHOLE discographies are in question, ie both Namie and Utada have their discographies available: Namie Amuro: http://recochoku.jp/search/Srch?fkw=...10000010%2C487 http://recochoku.jp/search/Srch?fkw=...%3A10000010%2C Utada Hikaru: http://recochoku.jp/search/Srch?fkw=...Cc-%2Ca%2B&st= http://recochoku.jp/search/Srch?fkw=...Cc-%2Ca%2B&st= Neither of them made it to top 10 overall, so I am pretty sure that the old songs didn't play such a big role. I mean considering how popular Namie is wouldn't it be expected that it all re-sparked the interest in her older stuff too? The same would go for B'z Anyways, that's just the way I think, we might never know for sure. Still regardless of what songs made her chart this good, those are still her songs and it's amazing that people are still interested even if it's just your older stuff in question, which obviously isn't. ^ Actually I think you missed Kimura Kaela, May J., and Lil'B (or is that counted as a group, I don't really know this artist so)
I still think the old songs though have to play at least somewhat of a role though, otherwise it stands to reason that all of the other artists that had better selling chaku-uta and chaku-uta full songs this year should be listed as higher on the overall chart, but they are not. Namie's and Hikki's discographies are far shorter than Ayu's...
If old songs played some role, they don't have as much material as Ayu^^ |

^ Yeah, it's really not fair to compare in that sense. Honestly I just looked at the number of songs Ayu has available and I practically spit out my drink. lol I remembered from before that the difference is big, I just didn't remember it being this big.
Ayumi: 1,355. Namie: 162. Utada: 117 Then when you look at the top 5 of the overall chart it is even more eyepopping: 1. Exile: 338 2. Greeen: 50 3. Arashi: 79 4. Ayumi: 1,355 5. Nishino Kana: 32 It's like geez, calm down Avex! Not saying that is bad for Ayu, but at least extremely impressive for everyone else to rank that highly with such few songs.
