Is Ayu's grandma alive?

I was watching Countdown 2005-2006 and saw this:
http://secsecae.multiply.com/video/item/255

At the end of the video Ayu comes up to a woman backstage (in a private room) and hugs her saying, thank you for your hardwork, granny!'

I thought her grandma died when she was recording poker face!

Who is the woman?

I was also confused about that. But perhaps she is just an old friend of the family??

Her grandmother died the day she recorded poker face, didn't she? And that's why Ayu doesn't like that song and rarely performs it or something....

I know that Who... is supposed to be about her, since her grandmother practically raised her. I don't know about any other songs.

^ I think "ever free" is also about her.

Memorial Address is definitely about her father.

Yup. Her grandmother died the day Ayu recored poker face. Ayu actually found out before going into the recording room... that must've been hard

Just in the morning of recording Ayu’s debut single, her grandmother left her for ever.
Before Ayu came in the recordingroom, she received this unlucky news.

she probably regards the person as her grandma, hence the title 'granny' came about.

Also, I've neve rseen it, but does she say "granny" as in the english word or in Japanese and it was just translated? In Japan it is very usual to call elderly women "granny" as a term of endearment or their social relation,, whether or not they are biologically related. (hope that makes sense, it's my bedtime )

Calico and pommy are right...she's probably saying granny like American's would say Ma'am and British say Miss.
Also...I read that A Song for XX refers to Ayu's move from Fukuoka to Tokyo? But I've also heard the story about her mother...she changed the lyrics for one of the compilations, right?

Just a bit of a refresh for this, the woman was not related to Ayu and is NOT her grandmother but has been seen in other videos like the "making of" for alterna serving food to the staff. I imagine she helped the staff out a lot and maybe was retiring that year perhaps?
