I think is more about her and her career/fans, how she felt during these years.
Thank you for the translation!

Official Lyrics btw

I think so. It could also be read as an Ayu/fan type thing but the Max thing seems obvious given his interest in music production again.

No problem, I think we'll probably get some other interpretations here too. It's usually better for us to have lyrics separated out once we get the full ones, I find!

So I've been having the song on repeat again since I've woken up and the part about her straight ahead and "their" straight ahead meeting somewhere and combining into a light sounds more to me like herself and the fans meeting at the lives where both the stage and the crowd emit light that becomes one. I don't think the song is about Max, though it could be.
She had noticed that the things were falling into pieces in Last minute - parts of her fanbase being alienated, she was desperately trying to apologise in Sorrows. M(A)DE IN JAPAN was about her not being able to find her footing again in the restrictive, twisted, industry. The room she said she hated so much in WORDS might as well been a studio as that was the last thing she'd record until TROUBLE which closed with The Way I am which was clearly a hint towards the recording hiatus, asking people to stick around if they thought it was worth it and that there is still a future ahead or throw her away. Dreamed a Dream, I think, is the future she was referring to and I guess she wanted to show that she was ready to stand up and pick up the broken pieces. - in the first line where she's comparing old and nostalgic, she's probably wondering if going back to her original sound is considered nostalgic or too old - when she's asking the listener what makes them go forward, those lines remind me of how fans often say their fave's music help them through tough times - "we're still dreaming the same dream together": ayu is choosing to keep performing and releasing music - "the kings I cant use anymore and the queens I chose to stop using" might be about her not doing some of the things she used to do in her music - she mentioned ibasho in the lyrics. Didnt she say (or at least imply) that stage is her ibasho? |

It can be about her and Team Ayu. I see the point that njanjayrp said

Stop using とか all the time, woman
![]() ~~~ Dreamed a Dream Where to draw the line between old and nostalgic? Things like, a king that’s become unusable and a queen that is no longer used Things like, where my heart belongs and how I should use it Uh- until now Uh- I’ve used my cards Uh- without much thought I have to arrange them propely now After being smashed to pieces we went down on our knees not caring if we looked pathetic We kept collecting the pieces, in tears Unable to give up We’d fight and reconcile Even in that state like that even now we’re dreaming a dream together Everything has changed way more than we thought, hasn’t it? Things like, running to catch up only to somehow end up running past it Uh- things like, appearing at the same place After everything was lost What saved you? What did you wish for? No matter what the future brings even if it’s rotten My “straight ahead” and your “straight ahead” — Go, meet each other somewhere intertwine and become light After being smashed to pieces we went down on our knees not caring if we looked pathetic After being smashed to pieces we went down on our knees not caring if we looked pathetic We kept collecting the pieces, in tears Unable to give up We’d fight and reconcile After everything was lost What saved you? What did you wish for? No matter what the future brings even if it’s rotten My “straight ahead” and your “straight ahead” — Go, meet each other somewhere intertwine and become light Even in that state like that even now we’re dreaming a dream together Last edited by tenshi no hane; 1st August 2020 at 10:02 AM. |

Thank you, tenshi no hane! I was waiting for your translation
Maybe this is also about her hearing problems? "until now I’ve used my cards without much thought. I have to arrange them propely now" it's like she's working and working without the rest and damaged ears and vocal cords. Also shouldn't this song be somehow connected with Ohianoki, since they are released together? |

![]() @Aderianu: Not specifically I'd say. Ohia no Ki seems only for her son, while Dreamed a Dream has its own theme. |

it would be great to know anything about card games, then kings and queens would make thw interpretation even stronger. |

^ she might mean the chess pieces too though, like somebody pointed out a while ago in the other thread. So I think she means she doesn't use things that used to be her "strong points" (like aces), either by choice (maybe because they've gotten old and she is sick of them) or because she cant use them anymore (for example because she's going deaf)

Chess pieces I think were originally thought of but then she talks about the "cards" before the chorus, so it's probably more like trump cards.
The use of kings or queens might mostly just be to emphasize that those old or nostalgic things were once powerful but in this era may not have as much of an impact for various reasons.

I came here in hopes to find translations for this epic song and I did. Thank you for both translations. Now I adore this song more than I already did!
