Right. Back then JE wasn't really a threat to ayu UNTIL that point. Who would have thought Kanjani 8 could beat ayu on the first 2 days?! And I think Gorie won ayu as well for the first two days.
I remember people saying that lots of HEAVEN cds went to theatres so that's why it was beaten badly on the first two days, but I kinda doubt it..

i already did expect that GREEN will sell more then MW, never this good, now if her 2nd day sell won't have a big flop.....hopfully not, since japanese love ballads and DAYS is just awesome. if all the promotions going on, then GREEN have been on the Lumix cm for a while. everyone seem to be waiting for this single.

fyi, the KANJANI8 single was pushed back due to a member scandal, so i don't think "HEAVEN" was originally going to battle "Sukiyanen, Osaka/Mugendai/Oh!ENKA".
& i wouldn't take JE too lightly. they're the only people around nowadays that can easily pull a 300k+ opening week (KAT-TUN, Arashi, K8, etc.) even if SMAP & KinKi Kids aren't power sellers now, they really were back then.

Ehh... I think yes for KK, but not for SMAP. SMAP's singles are either hit or miss, with miss being dominant. They aren't constant sellers like KK, so I would not consider SMAP as one of them. And... it's really hard to say who could beat ayu at that moment. She did have constant sales during that point, but it's not like a very huge sales that can certainly getting no. 1 position. If someone (not very popular) has a really really good song and against ayu, I think she would be defeated (e.g., SCS again as an example).
I dun even think avex would dare putting ayu against any JE in nowadays. This applies to B'z and Mr. Children as well, as we have never seen them battling against any JE in recent years.

For JE, I really think only because they have so much face time all over the place is why they're so popular. Pretty boys that sing and act are a hot commodity, much hotter than before. That used to belong to the girls, haha. Like, you won't see a drama season without at least 2 JE members in a drama.
I think Ayu is safe. I think there's no way something with a first day index of 3.6K can take on 30K. |
