It really does depend on the record company though. I referred to the American industry model because it's the most familiar one to me. (My dad works part time as a radio station announcer, and he is friends with a few recording artists at major and indie labels here in the US.) I honestly haven't seen many articles breaking down how Japanese record labels distribute profits, but if they're anything like American and European labels, then the profit methods will likely vary greatly. The salaried/non-royalty method makes sense because of Japan's smaller market size, but it's very difficult to determine exactly how the system works without information from insiders.

Aaaaaanyway, I'm happy about "L's" sales. For some reason, I think it'll end up having better chart longevity than "crossroad" once more people realize that is it Ayumi's big milestone single. I'm probably completely wrong though lol.

thats very true. While kpop is a very close-knitted music industry, i cant say likewise for jpop. Hence, in jpop, i manage to concentrate of a few i LOVE. Right now, im on a AYu and Kumi high hahaha...Ayu because of her latest singleS and kuu because of her concerts. I HOPE WE WILL KNOW MORE OF 7DAYS FINAL!

i agree lol!...yes the #1 isnt that impt thereafter but if u can do it, why not just go ahead. Isnt that like a life lesson? If u can, just go for it.

The sales are just OK, but even if they could be much better than they are, the single is just great xD The end of Sweet reason's PV, the entire PV of Virgin road and the amazing Last Angel

yep, the sales are OK, but I was expecting better sales than crossroad, cuz L is the main single of the 50th Single Project...

@Chibinina4, I see. I found the article where I had gotten my information from.

Japanese jimusho, on the other hand, hire their talent as salaried workers. They pay their “employees” a monthly salary, which usually starts at the relatively low ¥200,000 and can be re-negotiated on a yearly basis.

Funny how crossroad is doing slightly better despite L being her 50th single.

^Well, the record Ayu is breaking now is the consecutive singles for solo artist. The highest above Ayu is Mr. Children with 29. The B'z have the record for most #1 singles overall which I believe is 43.

Solo artist and female artist as well... But I'm not sure if she can even reach that, because that would be around her 70th-75th single in order to break B'z, and along with Mr. Children, they're still active, ready whenever they want, although not much action for those two bands have been seen lately...

I'm sure she has a chance to beat Mr. Children if she continued to release like mad. Good she's doing well!
