NEWS members Kato Shigeaki and Koyama Keiichiro test positive for COVID-19

It's been reported that NEWS members Kato Shigeaki and Koyama Keiichiro have tested positive for COVID-19. Consequently, their online live 'NEWS LIVE TOUR 2020 STORY' that was scheduled for December 12th and 13th have been cancelled.

According to Johnny's & Associates, Kato had a fever of 37.7°C (99.86°F) on the morning of November 28th. After taking the PCR test, he was confirmed to have been infected with the virus. Under guidance of the health center, he will be observing his symptoms and receiving treatment.

After Kato was confirmed positive, the NEWS members and their managers took the PCR test as well. Koyama's test also came back positive on November 28th. While he does not have a fever, he is experiencing a sore throat, headache, and fatigue. He will also be observing his symptoms and following up with the health center.

Prior to November 28th, Kato and Koyama did enter a Johnny's related facility, as such, the facility will be undergoing disinfection on November 29th.

NEWS will take part in this year's Johnny's Countdown



This year's Johnny's Countdown will still go ahead within different parts of Tokyo but without any audience present due to the current ongoing COVID-19 pandemic

Kanjani's Murakami will host and he takes over hosting duties from TOKIO's Taichi & V6's Inohara

This will be the 1st time a Johnny's Countdown will not be held in Tokyo Dome since Fuji TV began to broadcast it from 1998 until now

Johnny's Countdown to be delivered from various locations in Tokyo

Johnny's & Associates' year-end countdown 'Nihonju ni Genki wo!! Johnny's Countdown 2020-2021 ~Tokyo no Machi kara Uta de Tsunagaru Namahousou~' will broadcast on Fuji TV on December 31 from 11:45 pm JST.

The annual programme was always broadcast live from Tokyo Dome, but had been cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the upcoming programme was decided in order to help bring smiles into the new year.

With the theme "to cheer up Japan through songs," Johnny's artists will be delivering songs and energy from various locations in Tokyo. Participating artists are NEWS, Kanjani8, KAT-TUN, Hey! Say! JUMP, Kis-My-Ft2, Sexy Zone, A.B.C-Z, Johnny's WEST, King & Prince, SixTONES, and Snow Man.

Kanjani8's Murakami Shingo will serve as the emcee.

Shige updated Cloud to say that he is no longer showing symptoms like having a fever, headache, cough etc. and the public health center has told him that he can resume daily activities.

He said he lost his sense of smell when he was down with COVID-19, but that's slowly coming back to him.

He wrote about how it was the first time he had a fever of over 39 degree Celsius, and also how he was thankful the people from the public health center were in touch with him regularly, though he can't imagine how hard it must be for them to do this for everyone down with the virus.

He said he blamed himself for how much trouble he caused to so many people, wondered how he got the virus, and looked for excuses and someone to blame, but all these were just proof of how weak he was as a person.

They did not manage to trace how he got the virus and rather of trying to find an answer they may never get, he hopes those who came down with the virus would concentrate on getting well.

He said he will take more precautions henceforth, and will do his best to appear before us in his healthy self again.

Koyama updated KEIICHIRO to say he took the PCR test yesterday and it came back negative. He experienced many symptoms, such as feelings of fatigue, headache, joint ache, fever and cough. COVID-19 is really scary.

He said he still can't really taste what he eats now and it's sad that everything he eats isn't tasty at all.

He also wrote about how anyone can really come down with the virus no matter how careful they are. While people tell him not to apologise for coming down with COVID-19, the fact is coming down with the virus caused a lot of trouble to people around him.

He feels upset about not being able to perform what they have prepared. That can't be helped, but he felt like he was breaking down. There must be people who feel alone because of COVID-19, and he hopes they can slowly fight it, and catch up with what they lost once they get better.

He also asked everyone to be even more careful than they already are now.

He also shared how he took a walk in the morning, and how it felt wonderful to be able to breath the outside air and feel the sunshine after this time.

Finally, he expressed his thanks to the staff at the public health care center who called to check in on him everyday and said he hopes the medical staff will be able to overcome this tough period.

Koyama and Shige Resume Activities

On December 14th, a little over two weeks after the announcement of their Covid19 diagnosis, Johnny’s posted on their official website that Koyama and Shige have recovered and will be resuming their activities.

In the announcement, Johnny’s said that since their positive PCR test results on Nov. 28th, they’ve been following the instructions of the public health center and working on recuperating. They have completed the observational period, recovered physically, and received negative PCR tests, so Koyama and Shige will be resuming their activities as of Dec. 14th.

They also apologised for the worry this has caused fans, and reaffirmed their commitment to the safety of their talents and to the continual use of safety measures against spread of the virus.
