Hello, AHS! Today, I finally got this thread done. I've been meaning to open a GILLE thread for a while already, since there's no conversation about her going on at all, which is completely unfair. For me, GILLE's first solo album has been the best album of the year and I think she's a musician who deserves to be more widely known.

Any people who are already fans? Come say hi (and let me know I'm not alone

)! How long have you been fans, what do you like about her, are you expecting her new releases, etc.?

For anyone who might be reading this having never heard of GILLE: do try her out! If quality pop music is your thing, I doubt you'll be disappointed. Her Youtube channel has a wealth of stuff to explore and if you want an album or single to download, let me know and I'll get to it as soon as I can.

Also, if there's anything I need to change about/add to the first post, please let me know!

Have you heard HIKARI yet? I really like both songs on the single! Not her best material, but really enjoyable. Her singing keeps amazing me.

Updated the first post accordingly. Not sure if my romanisation of the title is correct though... Anyway, nice to have an extra track! Just one more and we'll have as many songs as on the original I AM GILLE. album.

She has a nice voice and her English is very good! I like Try Again and Girls.

So, I AM GILLE. 2 release has come and gone and I haven't had any time to post about it (university is busy, who knew!). Anyone heard it yet? (Here's a link for anyone who wants to download it.)

Personally, I like the album. I'd say it's better than her first cover album but not quite on par with her original material; I think her original songs are a bit more polished and sound cleaner, while some songs on this album start to feel like noise at some point (Ikuze! Kaitou Shoujo and Memeshikute are guilty of this). Also, in her original songs she's free to sing in Japanese, which, let's face it, sounds better. She's really good at English when looking at J-pop in general, but she's not a native speaker and her pronounciation becomes unpleasantly muddy at times.

I'm probably making the album sound worse than it is though... 'OTL Most songs are really good! Standouts: I LOVE Aruku Around and LIFE, amazing production and great vocals.

LIFE especially completely blindsided me, I had no idea what kind of song it would be and it turned out awesome. Sakura is still beautiful (and it's very nice to have such a quiet, stripped down song on this album!) and I've come to love 100mankai no 「I love you」 even more than I did when it was released. Unfortunately, I was disappointed with Joyful.

I LOVE the original so I had great expectations for this cover, but they weren't really fulfilled. I get what they were going for with the arrangement but I think it turned out a bit too messy to be considered succesful, and GILLE doesn't really bring the energy Kiyoe Yoshioka belts out in the original.

EDIT: I just checked Oricon and was pleasantly suprised! I AM GILLE. 2 has had a funny chart life so far: #25 -> #25 -> #22 -> #15 -> #21. I don't think it'll be in the weekly top 20, but at least it won't be far! That's great for GILLE, her best chart position since her first cover album.

Sorry for double-posting, but I wanted to bring some new song news! GILLE posted on her Facebook account today that a song of hers, "Place To Go" was selected to be the theme song of... I'm not exactly what, but there's a 1:40 min preview of the song on the site of the thing and that's what I care about: http://www.b.tabihaku.jp/form/gille/

Place To Go sounds promising! I love the strings in this song. Reminds me of HIKARI a bit.

Sidenote: I AM GILLE. 2 at #24 yesterday. Still hanging tight in the top 25!

I'm following Gille since her youtube days. And I didn't exoect her to be japanese, cause her English is so good.

Her first album is amazing!
Still have to listen to Hikari.

Place to go sounds nice, but I'm more for her upbeat stuff. Or a ballad like Sakura.

Wow, you've been a fan for a long time! I just discovered her this year (thanks DAISHI DANCE!). I knew she was Japanese from the beginning, but I was fooled into thinking she's half-something else and bilingual (like Hikaru Utada, Crystal Kay etc.) because her English is really stellar! Her accent does come out when I listen to her for a longer period of time though.

Her first album really is amazing, I can't get enough of it! I bought the CD+DVD version when I was in Japan and I'm really glad I did, I love the concert footage on the DVD! She seems like a great live artist, great vocals and charismatic performance.

I like that Place To Go is bit more on the mid-tempo side, she doesn't seem to have too many of those songs! I hope this isn't the most final version of the song though, I think some things aren't really in place here, but I like the atmospheric mid-tempo sound. I feel like this is a great autumn song.

Btw, do you have her TASHA gee stuff or have you heard any of those songs? I'd love to hear them but I haven't been able to find them anywhere. :C

Just found out that she's Tasha gee some months ago. So no, I didn't know before and don't have anything, but listened to some stuff.
Here for example, you can find some on youtube.^^

WILL is actually a Tasha gee song, the one on the album is a new version.
So, from what I heard, Tasha gee and Gille aren't that much different in sound. She probably just changed name for her "new start".

A new song was revealed today! "Smile Again" will be released digitally in a week (October 9th) and it appears to be a drama theme song. Here's the video!

Neeeeews! Third cover album "I AM GILLE. 3 ~70's & 80's J-POP~ has been officially announced for release on April 9th 2014! It kinda makes me sad that covers are apparently the only thing she can release nowadays... but hearing the first preview of Hikoukigumo at least gives me hope that the music will be solid!
