ahh this thread is turning fanboy/girl on us!

Who cares who's more "musically talented", ayu is #2 and if this is anything like the STEP you/is this LOVE? single, it may drop up and down!

Here's hoping "HEAVEN" will beat out both STEP you and fairyland sales!!! But then again, we will have hikki on ayu's tail! xD

As much as I would love to agree with you about ORANGE RANGE majorly sucking (which on the most part IS true) "Hana" was an amazing song, it really really was, definitely better than "OCEAN" is or anything. But "musiq" was just ridiculous... that album was just... bad. LOL The only good album track I can think of is... "Iishin Deshin" I believe it's called. Blah whatever, "fairyland cw/ alterna" definitely deserves better sales but she is doing fine right now.

wow you took it right out of my mouth, I was going to say EXACTLY the same thing until I saw your post.

and B'z are NOT overrated as some people think. You don't have to like their music very much but you have to admit they are talented. Ayu: product. B'z: artist.

Because of the new releases, Ayu dropped to the 6th position. B'z also dropped. But I have a feeling that both B'z and Ayumi will comeback up to the 2nd and 3rd position soon though.

1. vestige-ヴェスティージ- - T.M.Revolution
2. 東京 - 福山雅治
3. 100億のLove Story - THE ALFEE
4. OCEAN - B’z
5. realize/Take a Chance - melody
6. fairyland c/w alterna - 浜崎あゆみ

Ayu is not a product to me. She's an artist.

i agree...i think she is an artist too. she views herself as a product, but if she is a product, so is every other musician. i think if you say ayumi is just a product or just an idol, that downplays her as if she has no talent.

anyhow...to keep on topic...these sales really aren't so bad. they're not smashing, but they're on par with her normal sales. no worries i say.

Yeah, I agree that Ayu is not just a "product." I think it's very unfair that many people still think that way, even though she has written every song she has ever put out.(disregarding the few covers of course.)

I think ayumi started out as an idol with something extra, she wrote her lyrics (Good ones too). Then she started getting more and more involved in other process' and wrote music, co.directed and so forth. What might may people think of her as still an "idol" is the fact that she has no formal education, and the fact that her marketing is done very idol like (doing CMs and so forth). I think that's ayumi's biggest problem for the future if she planning to stay as popular, is to get rid of that idol image. Idols are generally viewed as fads, although ayumi has certainly proved she isen't a fad.

B'z it's not a 'boy band', it's just a two men group. SMAP is a boyband, Orange Range is not [their music is crap 'tho], nor is B'z.

By the way, can people plase stop thinking that is a Japan thing man always being on the top. It's not. It's a universal thing, like in US, just, like, 8 female artists sold over 10 million copies, and more than 20 boybands/bands/males sold that. PLUS, most of the best-selling singles in Japan are from females artists, at least the top 10 (three by Hikki; one by Ayu; one by Mai Kuraki. The other is Globo, two B'z greatest hits and mm, don't remember, dreams come true, maybe?)

Sorry for the rant

Hana was simply horrible, the vocals are just plain stupid foer a supposedly "love song". I actually think it's one of the worst songs of MUSIQ. Their vocals suck in that song, the rapping is bad and the song is pretty much cliche and crap....OCEAN is definitely much much more enjoyable and doesn't sound stupid like Hana does imo. And no I'm not an ORANGE RANGE hater, they've actually finally made some decent vocals and music in both Onegai! Senorita and Love Parade, not to mention the b-sides were finally something very different from their usual cliche ROCK+RAP, kinda what SUPERCAR used to produce which definitely was an evolution in their career.

You mean, best selling albums

1 765.0 First Love Hikaru Utada 1 99.3.10
2 512.9 B'z The Best ”Pleasure” B'z 1 98.5.20
3 487.6 REVIEW~BEST OF GLAY GLAY 1 97.10.1
4 446.9 Distance Hikaru Utada 1 01.3.28
5 443.0 B'z The Best ”Treasure” B'z 1 98.9.20
6 428.8 A BEST Ayumi Hamasaki 1 01.3.28
7 413.6 globe globe 1 96.3.31
8 360.5 DEEP RIVER Hikaru Utada 1 02.6.19
9 353.0 delicious way Mai Kuraki 1 00.6.28
10 352.0 Time to Destination Every Little Thing 1 98.4.15

Source: http://www.ksky.ne.jp/~yamag/rekidai_a.html

I see 2 "boy bands", 2 mixed bands and only 3 female solo singers on the list. Next on the list is mostly bands, there's not many solo singers. Plus the top 10 singles is entirely by bands By the way, Ayu has only one single in the top 100, which is A, at the 57th place.
