I'm of course ayu-biased (though I like Kumi a lot), and my problem with Kumi is that I find most of her album tracks fillers. With JAPONESQUE, however, there aren't too many filler songs and the album tracks are actually pretty awesome (I love No Man's Land and Boom Boom Boys, especially), but if I had to choose between anything and an ayu album, you know where I'm going.

Indeed, Party Queen isn't perfect, but I really love this album; it's a new move from her, in that she had never released a full album without a single before (what about how beautiful you are, you say? Bytch please, I say). And the album itself is fantastic; it's got an alleged profound meaning behind it, and it's got songs in genre she's never done before. Party Queen is totally fresh.

Execution-wise, I think JAPONESQUE excels; greater covers, more music videos and a fvckload of promotions. Yet I stand by Party Queen for its music and its overall greatness that is ayu

JAPONESQUE.

I listened to Party Queen for a couple of days and then I also skipped alot of songs. Now I only enjoy about 3 songs from that album and I don't bother to put it on cuz there is too much skipping going on. I found myself listening to JAPONESQUE again right after those few PQ listening days I had.

And this is very supricing for me since I have always been a blind Ayu fan that have always thought that she had the best albums (well up until R'n'RC - the last album that blew my mind). And now Kuu came and took my attension. Nothing bad against Ayu, I still love her and her music like crazy. After PQ came out I actually stoped listening to "new" Ayu music completely and just went backk to the old school songs (from ASfXX up until RAINBOW). Lovely times.~

Anywho, I just like the whole everything about JAPONESQUE more. Covers, PVs, the wide range of songs, the absence of weird choirs. Ayus lyrics is naturally the best ones, but that's about it. PQ was not really my cup of tea, just like Love Songs and FIVE wasn't that either. But I still love Ayu like crazy and I support everything she does and I will stay by her side like I always have done. Even though both girls for sure worked really hard with their albums I like Kuus huge excitement and effort she put into JAPONESQUE. It's truly her baby and she's so so so proud of it which only makes me enjoy the album more.

Spoiler:
We had such a nice time. We started dating in t2m PV, took it slow you know, let our love grow. Then it got really serious in 2008. Then after AT2009 we moved in together. It was lovely. Then on AT2010 he asked me to marry him. He was such a sweet. And Ayu gave us our blessings. She was also such a sweet. Now me and Maro are such a sweets together. Aaaw, how time flies.

This is kind of hard because JAPONESQUE is like, well it's got so much variety and it's a straight up pop oriented album even though there's rap elements and R&B and Rock it's all still "popular".

I find more emotion in Party Queen, not to say that Kumi doesn't sing with emotion, she does, but what I feel in the song's in Party Queen pale in comparison to the songs in JAPONESQUE.

I'll have to say that I think Party Queen is better, personally. I was absolutely spamming JAPONESQUE tracks until Party Queen came out, then that totally took over. Sometimes even with a new album's release I'll still listen to a previously released album too. But for now it's been all Party Queen.

Definitely JAPONESQUE

I love all the songs on it while I only like a third of Party Queen

But what's important to me is replay value~ I'm still replaying the entire JAPONESQUE album while I occasionally play Return Road or something

Japonesque

Wow, I would have never thought that I there will come a day when I prefer a Kumi-album over an Ayu-album!

Kuu surprises me, really! Japonesque is a bomb with very very good new songs! I listen to it so often!
Kuu plays with her voice, such great vocals!
Ayu.... Party Queen is nice but not there is something I don't like in it.
It's fun, for exemple, Hextan thinks PQ is more emotional and me, I think there is no emotion at all xD
Ayu's voice is tired for me.

I took some time to listen to some of the major tracks off of JAPONESQUE (and I haven't listened to Koda since her first album...) and I have to say,

Ayu's music is more meaningful, but ultimately her image + lyrics + singing ability + music just did not come together the way Koda's did. In spite of the lack of depth, JAPONESQUE is a superior album, especially when it comes to the upbeat tracks. Koda's are catchy and her voice takes control of every song. Her lyrics/meaning may be more generic, but then, there are few mainstream artists who contribute as much depth as Ayu. And unfortunately lyrics + meaning alone are rarely enough to carry an album.

JAPONESQUE has Boom Boom Boys ... so JAPONESQUE!
The only thing PQ has going for it is 'how beautiful you are'. The ballads on Japonesque leave much to be desired. But one song versus an album of hits, obvious choice for me.

Party Queen
I never skip a song on it
JAPONESQUE on the other hand, I skip 90% of the songs until Ai wo tomenaide, and listen from that song till the end and I'm done. I tend to not skip IN THE AIR and i 50/50 skip ESCALATE.

Must say that I am surprised to see that Japonesque is still in the lead.

I voted for Koda Kumi as well. I love reminds me~Return Road~Tell me Why on Party Queen, but I don't listen to any of the other songs :|. Japonesque has Love Technique which I absolutely LOVE and I generally hate cutesie Kuu songs lol. And it also has KO-SO-KO-SO, IN THE AIR, BBB, No Mans Land, So Nice, Slow... which I all really love And the bad songs on Japonesque are better than the bad songs on Party Queen so yeah.

JAPONESQUE definitely. It had more songs that I enjoyed and was a lot more listenable as a whole. My favorite Kumi album since Kingdom.

Party Queen was just disappointing to me and is one of my least favorite albums, down there with LOVEppears and Duty. I only listen to NaNaNa, Shake It, Call, Reminds Me, and sometime How Beautiful You Are, and then I'm pretty much done with this album. This is one of the few albums in my J-Pop collection that I wished I had downloaded instead of paying money for.
