Yeah that's what I have always thought too.

But I guess we won't find out unless Ayu herself tells us.

AHS married to Maro
~13/1-2010~

Spoiler:
We had such a nice time. We started dating in t2m PV, took it slow you know, let our love grow. Then it got really serious in 2008. Then after AT2009 we moved in together. It was lovely. Then on AT2010 he asked me to marry him. He was such a sweet. And Ayu gave us our blessings. She was also such a sweet. Now me and Maro are such a sweets together. Aaaw, how time flies.

I wonder where the alterna(tive) meaning comes from...
I read the lyrics and cant really see an alternative...
But I like the alterna(tive) thing as well.

alterna in many languages linked to Latin is a form of the word "to change" and the first line of the song talks about change("If you can't accept change, stay at a distance..."), so that is probably what it means. Like Greatful, Heartplace and Mirrorcle it's an art-word created by her on the basis of one or more real worlds.

^ the first lines of the song are:
There were
Only a few things
Truly important and necessary
And the rest were mainly decorations

but I can agree with you that it is an artful approach like greatful days, heartplace and mirrorcle world.

EDIT:
I re-read the lyrics... what you are talking about is at the end of the song!
If you are afraid of changes
Watch me at a distance
Whether or not I may do something
It makes no difference
Let it be

I think that could be the alterna"tive" meaning...

Oh I'm sorry, I messed up the lyrics of the song then.
I don't see the "alternative" aspect though. Doesn't seem like a good idea, too hidden and not really related to the song while it's ALL about change. Ayu's double meanings are always really obvious when it comes to those word creations, completely leaving the end of a word out so it's closer to another word? (to) alter or (to) alternate is much closer than alternative. I think if it had to to with alternative Ayumi would have somehow included the end syllable.

I always thought alterna was short for alternative as well...
Also, ending words with an "A" always sounds nice to the ears.
Alternative is too long and boring to say. And shortening it is kinda cool.

EDIT:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/alterno and http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/alterna
It does mean to alternate.

I also recall seeing it in an interview somewhere, but maybe I was mistaken.

The Japanese seem to use オルタナ (orutana) as short for alternative. Someone brought this up in the other thread about this and they mentioned that it could mean "alternative" in the sense of the noun in that there's a "choice" between two things in which you can only choose one. In the PV's case, she chose fame over being normal... or something like that.

オルタナット (orutanaato) seems to be 'alternate' in Japanese, but it doesn't seem as widely used as the オルタナ reading which tends to mean "alternative".

I didn't think of alternative as that way because the first connection I get from that is in the "alternative lifestyle" direction. That does make sense. I still think it probably has to do with the many different forms of (to) alter in different languages too though because change is a bigger subject than choice in the lyrics.
