news article - ayu's commercial sales
____________________________________________ i don't know the specific titles/terms .. but it's basically talking about how ayu's price in her commercials is actually dropping .. according to japanese magazine 'gendai' .. this year ayumi's total income from commercials reached 350 million yen .. [about HK$24 850 000] ... and next year it will reach 500 million yen ... [about HK$35 500 000] ... however .. her CD sales [especially singles] have dropped from the top/ highest of 1 million sales to an average of 300,000 ... in other words ... the income from commercials only makes up the loss in CD sales ... ><" |
O.O
yea i saw this too and one word........NO!!! why isn't ppl buyin her singles.....is good is very good >_< thanks for the info anyway |

I Agree with Samurai Hamasaki and Bright Light. If she didnt release so many singles and had more breaks, people would like to hear her more. Maybe 1-2 singles a year would be good. Also if they maybe put more tracks on the singles to.
|
well... i have to agreed also.. if she didnt release stuff so fast she would get better sales.. i'm sure she knows this also if she had release stuff not so fast she would get better sales... but i guess she loves giving us new stuff soon ^_^
|
I think it's just that the "golden days of j-pop" are over. I mean, her singles still sell significantly more than most other artists'. Nobody is selling all that much anymore. Each year it just seems like the numbers drop and drop....
|
people are just getting tired of her. she's losing popularity. i smell the end of her career soon. 3 or 4 years, dude. 3 or 4 years...
|
voltron is right.. it's not like Ayu is the only artist who sales are dropping. Ayu has still been hitting the top of the charts.. it's not like she slipped from released something at #1 to #25 or something.. her slaes are still significantly more than most other artists. It's a decline in the industry in general, one that has been going on for awhile.

i have to agreed also with ayurocks... shes not the only one.. in japan or in the whole world that sales are droping... music CD aint the same as b4... 2words internet downloads
|
well if no ones buying music... what are they doing?!
|
lots of people download music.. than buy the CD... this been on news alot.. how artist are not selling as much as b4 ABC news had this a while ago
or tell me.. does people would waste 30$ on a labum when they can have it free |
Well I want it for the CD quality tracks and especially the booklets & obi's. The booklets are almost as fun as the CD's lol

The problem is being that the domestic fan base is decreasing despite the fact that ayu's becoming more popular internationally. While Japanese fans are still the majority who constantly support her CD sales, if they lost their interest (being unwilling to purchase her releases etc), then of course ayu's popularity in Japan will drop. This basic principle applies to most other singers as well, in other words, sadly to say, ayu's ruling era is gradually over just as what had happened to the past J-pop queen Namie Amuro before, and that's just a matter of time.
|
I think that's very true. She's only got a short time at the very top, just like other idols. People wanna see something new and flashy. But that doesn't mean that she won't be a top-selling artist. Moreover, if she reinvents something with her music or tries something different, the novelty might increase sales.
I think that she still has a few years of top popularity. Also, I don't think it's a matter of breaks between songs. Look at the 10 month break between Voyage and &... That was a long one and & still didn't hit the top and stay on top without little breaks. Either people are bored of ayu's music (I'm not, mind you) or they're into something new. Indies bands are popular right now. Also, rock seems to be making a come-back right? Pornograffiti and such are at the top. I dunno. I think ayu can come back, she just has to do something a lil different. This new album might do it. Let's hope!! |
I agree with you ppl... Ayu should slow down(3 singles, 3 remix album and one album in 6 months!!!)... She's getting so usual, actually ppl see her singles like "Oh another one, let's wait till her new album..." and she's on rush so she doesn't have time to crate new songs for an album, is the Memorial adress case, we're all fans but we can say that this year she's a little bit disturbed.... I love her new works but she MUST reduce her launchings... If she launches two or three singles a year ppl would get excited like "OMG her new single, she lauched her last one 6 month ago!!" It'd be awesome ppl!! I feel pity of her, 300,000 isn't a number for hamasaki's stuffs, at least 1million! =..)
Go Ayu!!!:thumbsup |
for me... i dont care for the sales.. she hasnt dissapointed me on her latest singles... i like them... i just realize that...
300,000 is pretty good.. dont expect a singer to always sale 1million ... |
i agree.
forgiveness wasn't as successful as they had expected . so they immediately made no way to say ... the only thing i don't understand is why & didn't have good sales .. |

The song exceeding 700,00 has big reason to sell well. I suprise at how ayumi sells well in Japan. |
oh no..
hope ayu wil hav an even mroe attractive album/single out soon that help w/the amount lost |
Well, Ayumi's popularity is certainly decreasing. I really appreciate for all the new things she has done but I really think that she has to slow down. I mean, it's some kind of policy that Ayu releases a album, remix albums and singles every single year. I think she was preoccupied with hosting Ayu Ready? as well as RAINBOW HOUSE that she does not have time to concentrate on her music and styling a new image.
I hope that she will be able to manage well between Ayu Ready? and her music. I think she had to rush those albums and the singles out as the year is coming to an end. Perhaps for next year, she might decide to have a break between her singles like for 1 or 2 months? In this way, I'm sure the excitement would be up. Her image is always changing, it's really great we get new things, but I think that Ayumi should take it slowly. Or maybe it's Avex again manipulating the things. *evil Avex* haha |
In my opinion, the thing is, even though Ayu's popularity's dropping there's really no one to take her place...this was different for Namie a few years back because Ayu (and later Hikki maybe?) was right there to take her place as the reigning artist. So I guess unless Hikki makes a comeback or some new super talent comes along there's really no one to fill Ayu's spot, meaning she's still gonna stay on top!!
And I think you guys shouldn't worry bout the sales much...I mean, I would only get worried if Ayu's singles didn't reach no.1 or something, but since all of them did then that proves she's still quite popular. We may be used to hear Ayu getting no.1s but it's not that easy for other artists...:P So yeh, no need to worry for now.~ |
Yes,Japan is in a depression state now.
So a newcomer artist cannot be advertized on a large scale. It is one reason. I think Ayu resembles morning musume rather than utada, nakashima and namie in a certain meaning. Ayu completely differs from namie in the reason for becoming popularity. namie is cool.ayu is emotional. Ayu and momusu performed much concert. Fan of Ayu and Momusu overcome happiness and distress. Recently Momusu athletic meet was carried out in Tokyo Dome. Tokyo Dome hold 55,000. Tokyo Dome almost became no vacancy on that day. But their single cannot sell no less than 100,000 copys. The most important thing is making good music. |
I think ayu should slow down the pace... since she's become Queen of J-pop for a few years, ppl have great expectations to her releases... but the stuff came out in a rush and the quality is pretty controversial: Some really love it, but others hate it. It's because we can't guarantee all the ppl who were impressed by ayu's songs several years ago still love her in 2003.
Actually, Hikki is a good example for ayu. She only released a single 'COLORS' this year, and sold pretty well (nearly 900k). It's because she does not overexpose in the media; unfortunately, ayu does. Maybe avex and ayu think more appearances will keep up the popularity. NO!! It will only make more and more ppl feel tired of ayu, saying 'OMG! Ayu again... singing her typical ballad again." and such... Well, ayu did it... coz '&' was out after a 10 month hiatus since 'Voyage' (if 'RAINBOW' is treated as a 'single', it's only 4 months...)And it sold well... 610,000 is not bad... without those limited versions like 'H'. Guys, don't expect ayu to have same sales like SMAP and Hikki. I think we believe ayu always makes good music no matter what happens to her. |
Well...its not as bad, and I think releasing only 1 or 2 singles a year isn't going to exactly help...on average her sales is still topping the other artists, BoA, ELT, DAI etc pretty much releases singles at a similar rate (well, just like 1 or 2 less per year) yet their sales are much lower~
there are exceptions but alot of people's sales are dropping, by looking at Rainbow, even her album sales has dropped... and uggh...please don't compare Ayu to MoMusu x_X" But I just don't think slowing down the pace would help all that much... but like what was said...there's no one to take her place at the moment and it won' t be an existing artist like BoA, Mika or Ayaya, it'd be someone out of the blue. |
her album rainbow was release 2002- does sales are for this year haft million is pretty good... if you count all her rainbow album sales i think makes 2million... wat more you want.... rainbow cant be first place this year cause it was release 2002
but haft million this year is pretty good as for the singles you cant expect ayu always to sell million with each single--after she takes out new one each 2-3months.. people arent rich |

oh god, I don't need Aya Matsuura to overtake Ayu. She seems very processed.
|
That's how people felt when Ayumi first entered the pop scene. Namie Amuro was a pop idol with rythm (and tattoos :D ) and people felt that Ayumi was just too manufactured with just a Barbie-doll image going for her. Once they heard the deep, meaningful lyrics to her songs, their perspective changed drastically (when she began to change her image also). I believe that Aya has some attributes that the public will soon notice.
|
well im sure about ayu relesain so much single make the market gets bored... people are getting confuse which 1 i should buy... coz next month there's a single but now theres a single too... but if 1-2 singles a year is very a few... maybe 5-6 just like the previous year... so many single but the releasing date isnt so close to each other so people can have a breathe with ayu's song ^^
|
300000 is good..

I don't think Aya Matsuura will be the one to overtake Ayu anytime soon. It's just when I think "Aya Matsuura" I don't think "Upcoming Idol". Nakashima Mika seems very popular these days. |
When I think of Matsuura Aya, I think "buriko." 100%. I don't think talent or anything. Besides, most of the HELLO project group isn't taken very seriously, I shouldn't think. Nakashima Mika might be able to rival ayu, but I couldn't see anyone else doing it. I would vote for A-rina (Aiuchi Rina) before Nakashima or Ayaya combined. ~_~
ayumin had a point: ayu's not a "cool" person (cool as a cucumber, that is) she's very emotional. It is a very different kind of fame than Amuro or Utada, who are mature, withdrawn, etc. etc. ayu is about honesty. |
i agree with most ppl...ayu chan seems to release too many singles... i personally nv bought those...coz i think that since e songs will be stored in her albums too, why muz i spend so much on singles. well some may disagree but that's how i feel
|
Hmmm... that's sad :(
I do agree that ayu releases to many singles, but personally I really refer buying singles than the albums ^^ why? I don't have a clue! |
hmmm..this info is quite acceptable.. if you consider japan ecomomy situation right now.
