[2002] Who's your favorite Western pop singer?

Okay, I'm not talking about just your favorite American artist, but who is your favorite American POP singer? I'm sure we'll have a nice debate over whether or not Britney Spears actually has any talent or not, so I'm not voting for her. I really like Kylie Minogue. She's not slutty and her songs are fun.

Sakura_Drops 24th November 2002 08:07 PM

Yeah Kylie is really good but I think Britney is ok.

Grantith 24th November 2002 08:19 PM

Technically Kyle isn't American pop. She's from Australia. :p hehe, but I guess she counts.

My favorite American group would be Blink 182. They're not really pop, but they're still really good.

boogieordie 24th November 2002 08:42 PM

One of the reasons I listen to Japanese Pop music is because American Pop isn't worth it. So I don't have one.

Ashley

Peruvian_Sky 24th November 2002 10:24 PM

I don't really like any American pop singers but there are several bands in the pop category that I like: Third Eye Blind, Tonic, Green Day, Matchbox Twenty, Creed, Nickelback, etc. I guess the closest thing to an American pop singer I will listen to is John Mellencamp.

xluvayux 24th November 2002 10:44 PM

uhhh is trance kind of like pop? all happy and bouncy and fast? right? welll....I like all kinds of artists...anything thats just in my interests...Ill get down to anything really...I dont mind at all...if I like christina aguilera's songs, then so be it..I dont care what people think, they can kiss my bootie! hehe...:D

I also like any rock songs...I dont have a favorite "band or singer" but I have favorite "songs" by a variety of artists...yet, I dont know, BoA (who is definitely not american) strikes my interest as fav. singer at the moment...maybe jaci valesquez, shes cool...hmmm...it's really hard to say "what I like"...Im not very picky!! :thumbsup

Unimatrix Prime™ 24th November 2002 11:20 PM

Since most trance is made in Europe, and I hardly listen to the radio, I'm gonna say no one....Too many people like Christina, Lil BowWow (and all those other Lil people...lol), and just about all modern day US pop starts just annoy me. Some I can tolerate and perhaps like, but I don't have a favorite...

Ayufan Vegeta 25th November 2002 09:58 AM

favorite american pop singer? how about none. these pop idiots and carbon copy college rock bands (like sum 41 and blink 142...sorry Grant, haha) have no talent whatsoever. but that's just me.

N8 Dawg 25th November 2002 11:31 AM

<-- punk fan. hates it when people refer to Blink and Sum as pop
at least call them pop-punk, dang it. >.<
Blink, no talent? what the fudge are you smokin, dude? if i could play the bass half as well as Mark Hoppus or the guitar half as well as Tom DeLongue or even the drums a quarter as well as Travis Barker can, i'd be a happy man.
and have you heard Sum 41's new stuff? it rocks and is completely different from All Killer No Filler. bah.
no, i don't only listen to pop-punk. i listen to all sorts of punk. hardcore, ska/punk, indy. whatever. i listen to everything from Green Day to The Offspring to Five Iron Frenzy to Rufio.
i'm going to stop now before i start ranting more.

Vadise 25th November 2002 02:49 PM

uhhmm... maddona, minus the slutty past
she's great and ayu likes her.. i think

Sakura_Drops 25th November 2002 03:04 PM

I like Holly valance too and Christinas song "Dirrty" but I think that she is too slutty.

Biscuitgirl 25th November 2002 03:37 PM

Yeah, I like Madonna a lot, too. I just wish she would act her age! :laugh

same to me...

I was at the Kylie concert in Switzerland this year - it was quite good.
And I also was a fan of Madonna years ago.
But now I'm tired of their songs and Madonna is still way too rude and slutty sometimes (but that's what I think).

Mhmm funny...
Ayu is 24 years young,
Kylie 34 years and Madonna, I think, 44 years old. :)

Biscuitgirl 25th November 2002 07:14 PM

Wow, I wasn't aware that Kylie was so old. 34? Really? Wow.

LOL, funny you would say that because everyone in my school has started calling her Slutina Slagulerra. Sure it's mean, but she kinda had it coming to her.

Let me see. I like Pink and Shakira when it comes to pop. I'm in love with Avril Lavigne :D

And talking about bands (although they're not pop)... System of a down, Feeder (welsh band :D), Foo Fighters, Q.O.T.S.A, Sum 41 are starting to get better finally, Offspring were good, Greenday rock, Crazy Town have recieved redemtion for there new song. I used like Linkin Park until they pulled a Limp Bizkit and completely sold out. I've also started listening to Disturbed.

Ayufan Vegeta 25th November 2002 07:49 PM

what have I been smoking??

sorry n8, but one of the many benefits of being a fully-functioning human (besides being able to appreciate a delectable bag of doritos) is the added option of "free will." first off, i didn't refer to blink 182 and sum 41 as "pop." i called them "college rock." and for your information, i have heard all of their songs, including their new stuff (it's not by my choice, though. i have to listen to the radio at my place of work). in my opinion their songs share too many similarities (both lyrically and musically), and any attempt to discern a sort of "individuality" between the two bands is next to impossible. sure they can play their respective instruments, but just because one can play an instrument doesn't necessarily mean the end result of their "music-making" will be enjoyable. but hey, that's just me. you can listen to them all you want, i don't care. but it isn't your place to chastise me just because i dislike your taste in music.

take this for example: my brother listens to hardcore German industrial music (bands that a lot of people here in the states have never heard of). he knows i listen to j-pop and j-rock, but he doesn't like the stuff personally. he casually said to me once "i don't know how anyone can listen to that" (though he does admit that Ayu is "hot", haha). and it's not my place to try and convince him that he should like Ayu. i don't care if he does or not. i could give a rat's ass wether he does or not.

see what i'm getting at here? we (you and I) don't live in Nazi Europe or some archaic (by archaic i'm referring to a time period, not a level of advancement) central American culture (like the Toltecs or the Olmecs). we (at least you and I) live in the U.S.A., and the best thing about living here is you get to express your opinion freely. similarly, the worst thing about living here is you have to listen to the opinions of everyone else(like me), hahaha.

on a final note, to answer your eloquent question that was worded "what the fudge are you smokin, dude?" it's a mixture of tree bark, human bone, and catnip. any other questions? :thumbsup

N8 Dawg 25th November 2002 09:29 PM

i didn't say that you're the one who referred to them as pop. other people did. dang it, i typed that in three in the morning so most of what i say may differ from what i think when i'm fully concious. as for any other questions, can i have some of that? :P
i'm going to stop before i start on a linkin park rant.

flyonwall 25th November 2002 09:38 PM

i'm not a big fan of music here in the u.s. mostly cause the radio stations over play everything and i can only take so much of one song

fantaisie.sign 25th November 2002 11:25 PM

I don't have a favorite artist, but there are a few songs I like currently. Here's some of them:

1. Kelly Rowland -- Stole (pop edit)
2. Santana & Michelle Branch -- Game of Love
3. Daniel Bedingfield -- Gotta Get Thru This (Stella Moore Edit)
5. Even though it's an oldie, Linkin Park -- In the End
6. That Nickelback guy and the other guy -- Hero (from the Spider-Man soundtrack) :laugh

And those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.

miryoku 26th November 2002 12:36 AM

if i could only choose americans then - billy joel, huey lewis and the news, duncan sheik, chicago, prince, madonna, & spinfire.
and some of those groups/singers i dont like that much.

Biscuitgirl 26th November 2002 01:38 AM

Ha ha, Ayufan, looks like you got a firecracker attitude like me! Don't get so offended!

Ayufan Vegeta 26th November 2002 06:20 AM

haha biscuitgirl, i'm sorry about that. sometimes the Darth Vader in me makes a startling appearance. only my Darth Vader is really sarcastic, haha. that comes from having a pretty tough life so far, getting bullied in catholic school (go figure), and watching too many Marx Bros. movies :p

plus Darth Vader is just so cooool, and he's got some great lines too:
"He will join us or die, my master."
"Captain, I want you to tear this ship apart until you've found those plans, and bring me the passengers, I want them alive!"
"Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force."
"He is as clumsy as he is stupid."
"It is useless to resist, my son."
"If you will not turn to the Dark Side, then perhaps she will!"

Biscuitgirl 26th November 2002 06:45 AM

Darth Vader, huh? Does that mean you are Hayden Christiansen in real life?

Grantith 26th November 2002 12:05 PM

:laugh Biscuitgirl has a little crush now. :D

bulmasman 26th November 2002 09:03 PM

You forgot...

"Luke, I am your father!"

followed by Luke screaming and falling from that massive thing.

eVe 29th November 2002 05:32 PM

oh let me think :think
I like Dido and Vonda Shepard =)

Unimatrix Prime™ 29th November 2002 06:31 PM

Luke: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"

best. line. ever :laugh

but really, I always thought Ayufan got his anger from Vegeta, seeing that it's part of his nick :P . And eVe: nice sig and avatar :)

eVe 29th November 2002 07:42 PM

thx :) I luv the pix from cece and so I had to make a ava+sig :laugh

Ayufan Vegeta 29th November 2002 08:48 PM

haha, yeah. a lot of my anger comes from Vegeta, but Darth Vader came first. i was lucky enough to see Return of the Jedi during it's first theatrical run, and he stuck with me ever since! hahaha.:thumbsup

Unimatrix Prime™ 29th November 2002 09:02 PM

You saw it during the 1st theatrical release?? So that'd make you....umm....perhaps I shouldn't discuss that :laugh

chsf 30th November 2002 01:41 AM

talkin bout Hayden Christiansen, my friend (not me!) knows him...he's from canada and he went to the highschool close to mine...he was in an acting program of that highschool (which is basically an arts school)

Biscuitgirl 6th December 2002 08:28 AM

Really, Mimika??? Can he hook me up??? :laugh

Grantith 6th December 2002 12:14 PM

Wow! He did such a great job in Episode 2!

boogieordie 6th December 2002 12:22 PM

Off-topic but..

My friend had an audition for Anakin in episode 2, but they wanted him in LA the next morning for the audition, when he lives here in michigan. He's in CAPA with me.

Ashley

isaac hiew 6th December 2002 02:01 PM

I only like some rock stuff (superficial, maybe in your eyes) such as Linkin Park, Bon Jovi.... Avril..... you know, any song artists that suits my ears.

Well I do dislike some artists such as Oasis and Robbie Williams, no offence cos' all I heard from them was negative news.

Man, if I were him, I would have dropped everything and run. Opportunities like that don't come around very often. Ashley, how did your friend get such an awesome audition? Has he been in any movies?

Love ~since 1999~ 6th December 2002 04:17 PM

Ashley, what a lucky friend!!!

I like Madonna, but I don't like american pop very much. But i think american rock is very good. My favorite groups are Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Oasis, Foo Fighters and Avril...

isaac hiew 7th December 2002 02:58 AM

yeah! Die Another day! *Just watched the movie yesterday*

hopeorpain 22nd July 2005 07:34 AM

Hilary Duff!!! Is that even POP?! Lol I'm not sure :D

Endlessoul 22nd July 2005 07:43 AM

Avril....though she isn't from US....

LP...I think...

elepop 25th July 2005 12:45 AM

The only American artist I used to listen to a lot would be the one and only Britney Spears. Yes, I was a big big big fan. Until her "In The Zone" and "Greatest Hits" albums. "Do Somethin'" was simply horrible. But that "Someday" video? Flawless. I kinda fell all over for her again, but I'm not that much into her anymore. Not as much as I used to be. Now, we shall just let her breathe, take a break, have her baby and enjoy motherhood with her husband. She really needs a break.

I've never really liked other singer except for Jennifer Lopez or Mariah Carey. I seem to like whoever people hate don't I? LOL! I like a few songs from a few artists. Like Xtina, Linkin Park, Lindsay Lohan and others. But I'm no fan. At all. I like a little bit of everything. But I hate everything R&B, Hip-Hop, Reggea, and Rap. Yeah, and today, that's all we can freaking hear in the radio and on TV. Ridiculous.

shinji1698 25th July 2005 03:24 AM

BRITNEY AND MADONNA ALL THE WAY!

*rant

almost everyone here thinks that american pop music is terrible, when if you think about it, liking ayu is the equivalent in japan to being a britney spears fan in the US.

saying that all american pop music is garbage is lame, there's a whole bunch of crappy japanese pop songs as well. you're not rebeling by only listening to asian music.

*rant

Corybobory 25th July 2005 04:08 AM

My favourite American singer.... hmm.... at teh moment I guess that would be Jack Johnson. I also love Hilary Duff and Michelle Branch. Most of the music I listen to now that I think about it is British, Robbie Williams and Sterophonics and Oasis and such...

~.:*:.YaSuMi.:*:.~ 1st September 2005 09:12 PM

Well, US music for me is really boring. I'm bored of listening the same music and seeing the same boring artists all time.
Sincerelly I hate Britney; but I think I like Hilary Duff or Ashlee Simpson (but just one or another song on the radio) That's all.

And about Latin music (because Latin music is American Western music too) I think that latin pop music really su*ck*s (including that mexican artists always copies japanese singers style and songs). But I like reggaeton music a little.
