The Official Jessica Simpson Thread

I predict this thread will die shortly after it's posted. It may not even have a life. If so, I predict a closing due to an excess of bashing, so while it is tempting to bash her, I know (I had to restrain myself a few times when writing this thread), I wanna see how long it'll last on its own merit without having to be closed, so keep the bashing in check, okay?

We all know her. Many of us hate her. I guess some love her, Apparently right now this is around 10,000 people, which is more than I can say even know me.

And so we shall discuss her. I'll start.

I... honestly can't stand her. She used to be able to sing (not well - she got screamy - but at least she showed she could do more than breathe and moan all over every track). She used to seem like a sweet, pleasant girl - and while I know people grow up, she seems to have grown up into... I dunno. Something unpleasant.

That being said? I do like her new album more than I really thought I would. Some tracks (Push Your Tush) are annoying as hell, but overall it's catchy. I just wish it didn't feel so calculated. I also hate the title track - a rip-off of Madonna's Holiday.

I may buy it eventually.

I just wish I could stomach Jessica herself, but maybe there'll be hope for her eventually.

In regards to the album's performance, though, it seems to have fallen out of the top 100 after only three weeks, if I'm reading right. lol jessica (eww, I just said "lol")

Keishi 27th September 2006 03:39 PM

I haven't got her album, and I'm not going to. Not because of her, but it's just that I have never buy any western CDs except for Spice Girls & Diana Krall.

However though, I really like "a Public Affair". Actually, I'm very, YES very, surprised to know that that is her song. O_O
Her past releases didn't interest me, but this one is so catchy.

Mad_Cactuar 27th September 2006 04:30 PM

I planned buying her CD after the awesome title track came out. Then the whole ruse concerning "I Belong To Me" came out and made me annoyed that the second single wasn't on the CD. And then they decided to eventually add it on the CD. Now I don't give a damn because the song really dissapointed me.

Her habit to over-sing some songs annoy me a lot, especially on tracks like "Angels" and "Take My Breath Away". Those were very bad.

On the bright side, she has some decent songs in her career: "These Boots Are made For Walking", "With You", "Irresistable", "Forbidden Fruit", "A Public Affair".

Yukitora 27th September 2006 04:49 PM

I really like A Public Afair (It's really catchy!) but her voice at the start of the song doesn't sound like hers at all! I thought it was a guy's voice...

It's a real pity about her sales. I reckon she should've stayed with Nick Lachey if that could have been helped. In Australia you don't hear a thing about her, but Nick's song is everywhere...

Mad_Cactuar 27th September 2006 04:52 PM

^ This album is selling very good though so far with only 1 single. When "I Belong To Me" gets released, I cant bet the album re-enters the Top 50 at least.

Keishi 27th September 2006 05:06 PM

What do you guys think about A Pubic Affair PV?

I really love its retro-ness. <33

Although I don't like her and probably never will, I did like that video due to the fact that it made me laugh and that's because Andy **** made a cameo.:D He's one of my fave comedians:)

Because I CAN. Like P!nk said (I'd say "Pink" but apparently the woman wants to spell her name as "P!nk". Okay then. But ANYWAY).

I do tend to like her albums, even if she either oversings or undersings them. I'm not sure she'll ever find much of a good balance between either, in that respect. Sweet Kisses had good stuff like I Wanna Love You Forever, I Think I'm In Love With You (one of my favorites of hers), Final Heartbreak (I seem to be the only person on earth who loves this song), Betcha She Don't Love You, and Your Faith In Me (which definitely has one of her best vocals ever. Too bad she doesn't even try for that anymore).

I'm also fond of For Your Love, A Little Bit, There You Were (as corny and sappy as it is), With You, Every Day See You, Be, and a few others I can't recall right now.

I do like her music for the most part. But her as a person? That's another story altogether.

cybermoomba 28th September 2006 05:38 AM

Because you can? lol :bgiggle Good enough

You're really good at explaining things

Nu-NRG 28th September 2006 06:19 AM

I like the song she did with Nick Lachey...forgot what's the name of it but that song is really nice...I preferred her older ones though
her new one "A Public Affair" sounds like something Paris Hilton would sing heh

pbs1605 28th September 2006 08:50 AM

Ok,i used to be a huge Jessica fan up to and including "In This Skin" but i dont know why maybe because of over exposure but i just don't like her anymore.

This one of the reasons I don't likke her either. The media goes a little crazy over her sometimes..........:headache

cleftjuston 30th September 2006 05:51 AM

i like a public affair, the vid was really funny

Mad_Cactuar 3rd October 2006 10:35 AM

Oh em gee, the album is pretty good. Strangely, the more uptempo songs don't sound as good as the slower numbers. Maybe that'll change soon.

Maybe I should buy it.. *compares to Jamelia*

shippo 3rd October 2006 12:49 PM

Public affair is so catchy! I loveeeeeeeee it...

spacelion 3rd October 2006 07:52 PM

I must say public affair is kinda catchy @.@

Vinylfantasy 3rd October 2006 09:06 PM

I liked Public Affair for awhile but it was only because I thought I was listening to Holiday. :laugh I liked Jessica Simpson when she first became famous but now I can't really stand her voice.

Mad_Cactuar 3rd October 2006 11:22 PM

My gripe is "You Spin Me Round" because in the chorus her voice is too distorted. I hear "You spin me right round, baby right round, like a pregnant baby, right round round round".

Am I the only one who's ever actually seen a pregnant baby before?

bondingo 12th October 2006 02:01 AM

Actually, I bought Public Affair about a month ago and I haven't touched it since the day that I bought it. I've been too distracted with my Asian music :)

Mad_Cactuar 12th October 2006 05:28 PM

^ Listen to it. NOW. I really feel guilty about not buying it. "I Belong To Me" has really really grown on me, I can't stop loving it. It's so awesome.

pbs1605 19th October 2006 09:37 AM

How many copies has her album sold so far?

..:Hot:Like:Wow:.. 19th October 2006 09:42 AM

I still can't get over the chicken and fish thing.

THE STUPIDITY

I like some of her old songs though.

Terri 19th October 2006 11:38 PM

She's a bore to be honest.

Her lyrics are lame, her videos are lame, everything about her is LAME.

The sad part is, she doesn't even have looks to fall back on.

Her fame is meeting their days

At least until she meets Aretha Franklin and greets her by saying "Omigod! Madonna! You know, I loved you in Glitter. I think you have a great voice. Could you sing Barracuda for me?"

BabyUtada 20th October 2006 05:20 PM

In her new video, I belong to me, I like the song but she was too "Dramatic" and too "fake". She honestly need to get some acting lessons. If you ask me she depends on is her boobs to get her fame.

She's been famous before Newlyweds because of her music and fresh pop sound. So no, her fame isn't going to end as long as she keeps on making great music.

The new video kind of bored me but the "apply eyeliner and look like a sad sad panda" scene really got me to keep watching. Only those scenes really worked. The other scenes were bleh. She's pretty in the housewife look. The one with the hair band and stuff.

explodingbird 26th October 2006 06:38 PM

I'd rag on you about respecting other peoples' opinions ("Debatable. Debatable. Debatable." Give it a rest) but since I kinda get like that with the Ayu PV/(miss)understood bashing, I guess it'd seem a tad hypocritical.

But give it a rest anyway.

I haven't seen either of her new videos yet. Actually... I think the last one I saw was With You. Didn't care much for it, although the song was okay.

But for god's sake, does she have to whimper and pant through everything she sings? She sounds like she's trying out for, I dunno. HOT BUXOM WINSOME BLONDE COLLEGE CO-ED SHOWER MUD WRESTLING II or something.

Terri 26th October 2006 06:53 PM

I agree with you explodingbird.

Mad_Cactuar, my post in this topic wasn't intended to be debated. My comments weren't facts, just merely opinions

Mad_Cactuar 27th October 2006 04:02 AM

Sorry, it just seemed like you were bashing her. But yeah, sorry again. :yes

You made a good point, they were just opinions.

Terri 27th October 2006 04:24 AM

^ It's okay, I didn't take anything to offence ;)

In the US, the sales are at 235,632 according to Wiki.

Mad_Cactuar 27th October 2006 11:13 AM

Pretty poor compared to the successful ones. I Belong To Me is #110 on Billboard.

explodingbird 27th October 2006 07:26 PM

Is it just me or do her albums... not sell well at all unless/until there's some huge publicity stunt?

Or maybe it's just the case of In This Skin that got me wondering.

People are sick of her at this point (the tabloids aren't, but their job is to spread misery about Hollywood and make readers sick of people, I... think) - it's kind of unsurprising they would ignore the album. I think Simpson Family Hate is on the rise. People just don't want to keep reading about her love life or Ashlee's plastic surgery. Their images with the public are really very low - Ashlee's in particular after Saturday Night Live, and I'm sure Jessica's has been steadily dropping ever since the dumb blonde bit on Newlyweds.

I guess... if she EVER drops out of the spotlight for a bit and returns with an album sometime later (again, with no spotlight for awhile), it'll be easier to make a judgement call.

Too bad. Strangely enough, I liked it quite enough.

Mad_Cactuar 28th October 2006 05:03 AM

Yes, she should probably go on hiatus. Or keep on releasing proper nice stuff. Her singles so far from APA are excellent. She just needs to take out "Fired Up" and she might get into the top 10 with a pop song.
