NEWS
Who?

AAA aka Triple A (トリプルエー). Fans call them Tori E. AAA originally stands for Attack All Around. They are a seven member J-Pop Group under the avex trax label with male and female members. Started in 2005 they just celebrated their 7th anniversary and they are one of the few groups who managed to increase their sales over the last years. Their official fanclub is called AAA Party.

Offical Youtube AAA Channel - You should check this out, it is a goldmine!

And who are these people exactly?

AAA are a "super performance unit". They dance and sing. Wow! The members are:

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n83/KittyMai/nao.png
Naoya Urata - 浦田直也 DOB 82/11/10, age 30
Oldest member and leader of the group. His soulful voice is heard on almost every AAA track as he is one of their lead singers. Started at avex as a background dancer for some j-pop singer called Ayumi Hamasaki. Did two collaborations in 2010 & 2011 with the woman who this forum is dedicated to. Also released a solo album TURN OVER in 2009. Occasionally holds solo gigs. Naoya is a funny guy and friends with almost every japanese person. :D He also released collaborations with May J and Mao Denda. Naoya released another solo album (covers only) in 2013.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...yMai/nishi.png
Takahiro Nishijima - 西島 隆弘 DOB 86/09/30, age 27
Probably the most famous member, Nishijima is called "Nishi/Nissy" by fans and friends alike. Nishi is not only the voice of AAA, he is also a well-known actor. You can see him in stage plays, dramas and movies. Known to the western audiences because of his awesome acting in a movie called Ai no Mukidashi (Love Exposure). Nishi loves One Piece and is bad with computers. That's why the only time you hear from Nishi is when he hijacks the other members twitter accounts or posts at AAA's official blog. Nishi is known for his perverted antics and Ayu called him "funny" when she visited AAA in one of her tweets. Also models and has several photobooks released.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...Mai/hidaka.png
Mitsuhiro Hidaka - 日高光啓 DOB 86/12/12, age 26
AAAs very own rapper, also known as SKY-Hi. Mitsuhiro is a ladies man who mainly raps on AAA tracks. But his voice is also suited for singing. He often joins the harmonies. While AAA's tracks are mostly written by other people, you can be sure that Mitsu writes his own rap lyrics. He is also a solo artist, released his own album and often collaborates with other artists. Is VERY active on twitter and was in Johnnys a very short time before joining avex.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...Mai/shinji.png
Shinjiro Atae - 與真司郎 DOB 88/11/26, age 24
Shinjiro, also called Ouji (Prince) or Shin-chan, is the good looking youngest member of the group. Has a deep voice and also acts in dramas and movies. Loves the english language and often practices it on twitter with his fans. Has his own photobook Shinking which had been shot by famous photographer Mika Ninagawa. Models and was also pictured in an exhibition by Leslie Kee. Other than that he is very shy and not really outspoken. His laughing face is rare (think Namie Amuro).

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...Mai/shuuty.png
Shuuta Sueyoshi – 末吉秀太 DOB 86/12/11, age 26
Shuuta, aka Shuuty to his fans, is a member who was certainly overlooked in the past. The best dancer in the band has an amazing voice, which is getting more recognition by the minute. Although he is pretty small, (just 167 cm) his cute boyish looks are getting his fans into a frenzy. A few years ago he was often seen with a moustache, but he looks so much younger without it. :D

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...Mai/misako.png
Misako Uno - 宇野実彩子 DOB 86/07/16, age 27
When you listen to AAA for the first time, this woman's voice is important. If you don't like it, you probably won't like AAA because Misako is the female lead. Originally Uno-chan was to be the only female member. Misako is an actress who acts in stage plays, movies and dramas. She is also a model and released two photobooks, the latest being UNO-BON. She is friends with some AKB48 members and loves broccoli, for some strange reason.

http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...Mai/chiaki.png
Chiaki Itou - 伊藤千晃 DOB 87/01/10, age 26
Chiaki-chan is the cute, fashionable female member. She released her first photobook Chercher this year. Her fans love her style and she is often seen in fashion magazines, and was cover girl for the Nails magazine NAIL MAX. Chiaki loves her dog Kiki and will release her very own stylebook soon. She has her own blog which she updates almost daily.

But what about the music? Well?
It's not that simple. Because AAA tracks are basically j-pop, but they vary so much. AAA are produced by Masato max Matsuura. Their genre variety is legendary - their music is electronic, dance, eurobeat, techno, club, pop, rock, or even jazz. Their album Buzz Communication (2011) was arranged by Tetsuya Komuro, who is also friends with the members. If you're interested and don't know where to start, they released a best of album in 2011 #AAABest which should give you an overview. Especially on album tracks AAA sometimes split up in smaller groups. Often the female members have their own song, as do the male members. The boys released an album without the girls in 2008 called CHOICE IS YOURS.

Old first post: Since the old thread is closed and there doesn't seem a new one. I'm not very good at first posts, but I want to discuss AAA's new show, Nihikime no Dojo. Did you guys watch it? I really loved how Atae and Hidaka were molested by those crossdressers! :lech

Haha. I think they're really suited for this format. It's so much fun to watch them like this.

The latest PV for 逢いたい理由 / aitai riyuu. Eyecandy, if you ask me. I like the song and everyody looks nice. (Except Shuutas Poodle hair ;))

*-_Ayu-fan_-* 13th April 2010 01:09 PM

YAYY~~ New Thread

逢いたい理由 is really a fresh song , really great

Mai82Go 14th April 2010 01:40 PM

AAA Dream After Dream ~夢から醒めた夢~ / yume kara sameta yume PV is out:

I think I like Aitai Riyuu better. But maybe I need to listen to Dream after Dream more. But Aitai Riyuu is already stuck in my head.

prussian blue 14th April 2010 03:53 PM

I was never a fans of AAA during their debut era, I was just listening to some of their songs, but I must say I am totally hooked by them officially now!! HEARTFUL is a great album! summer revolution is my favorite! I got tonnes of favorite track right now, AAA is awesome

Mai82Go 14th April 2010 04:21 PM

^I feel similar. I never paid any real attention to them, and suddenly they are at the top of my playlist. Still don't really get how that happened. :)

prussian blue 14th April 2010 04:26 PM

^maybe they did some spell to us XD

I love the intro of dream after dream, but a no no for the chorus, maybe it will grow to me, but not for now :no the PV is cool though, and chiaki looks so cute.

anyone knows what tattoo does naoya has in his arm?

Raiu-Ayu 14th April 2010 05:44 PM

I love Dream After Dream but I think it'll take Aitai Riyuu a while for it to grow on me

I can't believe that you guys didn't like AAA lol They are damn awesome :P

If you haven't already I highly recommend that you watch their concerts, especially the anniversary concerts :D They are soooooo good :D

Mai82Go 14th April 2010 06:18 PM

^I started to pay attention after watching TEIOH, last summer - I couldn't get Break Down out of my head. Then I watched Nissy in Ai no Mukidashi and thought, "Wow, these guys can also act" And then I watched some videos on Youtube where the AAA Boys were singing unplugged at some club in Tokyo....and I thought "Wow, they are really good singers. All of them." and I became a fan. I'm even searching for Naoya in old Ayu concerts. :) Thing with AAA is, I don't know why, but initially I didn't think they're that good and if you don't really pay attention at first listen the music only seemed average. But then you listen to their music more, you really get addicted. And they are really amazing live and they have so much talent, it just took me some time to aknowledge that. Maybe because they often have techno songs you just don't realize that they have really good voices. And at first the whole boys/girls together in a band that makes pop music seemed weird....haha, I just wasn't used to it I guess.

prussian blue 15th April 2010 02:11 AM

naoya was with ayu? :tired is he her backup dancer or what??

I was actually hooked by them from winter lander!!, the song was very nice but i kinda forgetting them in due time. But slwly I gained my interest to them through the a-nation performance, since they always appear first or the second. Sunshine was cute, i love how they perform in a-nation'07. but a-nation'08 was better since i watched the TV version and they sang 3 songs in it, and I thought wow they really could bring up the atmosphere and their songs are so good. Not until I try to DL HEARTFUL, wow summer revolution, BREAK DOWN was totally awesome and I tried to search more about him, plus, naoya looks so cool in the cover, that make me a bit interested too, hahaha. An my current AAA jam is - music!! I LOVE that song

Yeah, Naoya was a backing dancer around the 2002 era. He was in the Greatful days video and danced at Stadium Tour 2002

The boys (apart from Shinjiro) were also in Ami Suzuki's Delightful and Eventful music videos and performed with her at Kouhaku

Mai82Go 16th April 2010 08:29 AM

@Raiu-Ayu
Nice Signature. Can't help but keep staring at it.

@prussian-blue
When Ayu did the Dome Tour in 2001 Naoya was the leader of Asayan Dancers for Tokyo, I think. You can see him several times if you watch the Dome Tour or the backstage footage. And like, Raiu-Ayu said he was in the Greatful Days PV and Stadium Tour, too. It's like Ayu discovered Naoya...haha. But AAA is a much better career compared to being her dancer forever. :D There is another dancer of hers moving on to EXILE, too.

I actually listened to a lot of AAA releases before and I liked them from the beginning (I still love BLOOD on FIRE) but the final spark never happened until last year. Better late than never though, right?

prussian blue 16th April 2010 08:43 AM

I can't really see the boys in ami's video as they wear headbands and stuff, but i think i saw mitsuhiro dancing beside ami in eventful, and i saw glimpse of nishi in delightful, i dont see the other XD

I feel pity to shinjiro, i think he's the most good looking in the group but he didnt have too much role XD that goes the same for shuuta but at least he rap a bit

Raiu-Ayu 16th April 2010 05:14 PM

I feel bad for Shinji too but if I'm being honest his singing is the weakest in the group. Nissy and Shuta have the best singing voices, I would say next is Chiaki (she has power and good skills but always sounds like she's out of breath), then Misako, Naoya and Mitsu finally Shin.

But you have to look on the upside, Shin and Shuta are the best dancers in the group, followed by Nissy and Mitsu then Naoya and the girls.

Thanks :P I quite like it myself :P

Mai82Go 16th April 2010 06:17 PM

I have to agree that Shinjiro is probably the worst vocally of them all. But he can sing, it depends on his daily form, I guess.

For me:
Boys
1. Nishi/Naoya
2. Mitsu/Shuta
3. Shinjiro

Girls
1. Misako
2. Chiaki

I find it hard to compare Boys/Girls voices. But I think Chiakis voice is weaker than Misakos. So I have to disagree. Also I really love Naoyas voice.

For dancing I think all the boys are good. They also seem better than the girls, but I think one of the reasons is the girls wearing high heels so often and then the dancing with the boys looks awkward.

That's the performance I love so much. I have no idea who that other guy is, but he harmonizes well with the boys.

I'm finally also addicted to Dream after Dream. Fantastic single from AAA. Who is also releasing that week? Is there a chance for Number 1?

Raiu-Ayu 16th April 2010 07:39 PM

^Not sure but I think there is someone just above them guaranteed for #1 :(

I love that performance too :P They sound so awesome. I doubt any Johnny's boy band could sound that good without their playback :P

As for Misako's voice, I agree that she has more control and vocal skill than Chiaki but Misako's voice can sound so nasal so easily and it really just makes me want to skip lol

Mai82Go 17th April 2010 09:13 AM

Chiaki sometimes sounds like she has cold, when she sings. I think avex auditions are held with singing and dancing, while Johnnys just have to dance at their auditions. So it makes sense that avex artists are better singers.

Don't forget to watch Tumbling! It starts tonight, as a 2-hour-special. Just a few hours to go. Can't wait for more Nissy-acting.

I can't hear his voice since most of the time it was either covered by hidaka or nishi and naoya. But one thing i'm pretty sure he sings the lowest key in every song. We have to agree that nishi and naoya has an extraordinary high key register for guys (i'm a guy and I can't sing along with their song), and shinji might be just a back-up for them, in a lower key. By the way, I feel sorry to the girls too as they have the lower their key to the boys, while i'm sure misaki sing much better with a higher key

You haven't heard Shinji on his own? Have you heard his solo song "Crying Freeman" on CHOICE IS YOURS yet?

I think that there is some degree of singing involved but I think the thing that gets most Johnny's boys in is looks... Johnny's is quite a shallow company. It's a bit like 'don't bother applying if you aren't good looking'

Mai82Go 17th April 2010 09:00 PM

Not exactly true. From the description it seems like Johnnys auditions are just dancing. And Johnny picks the boys himself. You have to keep in mind that they go to these auditions at a very young age. They are basically still kids and you'll never know if they become good looking one day or not. It's hit or miss. :) Honestly I feel sorry for most guys in JE. Unless you are lucky you won't even get debuted. It's like a thousand hopeful boys and only a few are randomly picked to rule. Latest example is Yamashita Shoon an Ex-Johnnys in his 20s. He literally worked his a** of for that company for one half of his life and didn't get any reward, and he was really good looking and able to sing! But in the beginning of this year he left. I'm sure it's better for him, but that company...I just don't know, how mothers can willingly send their children to a Johnny audition. Thank good Hidaka left, and is now in AAA. You can say about avex what you want, but I'd rather work for them than JE that's for sure.

Raiu-Ayu 18th April 2010 12:27 AM

avex is actually a pretty decent company. OK they may overwork their artists a little but at least the artists get fair contracts and plenty of opportunities. Johnny's scam young and vulnerable kids (not to mention there have been several claims of sexual abuse).

I'm so glad that Mitsu left and joined the avex academy :P
