Your Favourite Western Artists/Groups, That Aren't Very Well Known or Popular

What are your favourite Western artists or groups, that aren't very well known or popular?

Mine are:

- Alyssa Reid: She's a new singer, and I like her music. She's coming out with her debut album on June 16th. I like her music style, cus it has R&B and piano mixed together. And her voice is so lovely.

- Neverest: They are a new rock group, and they just released an EP a few months ago. I just love their songs "About Us", and "Everything".

I love Sick Puppies and Egypt Central.

Only I can think of is Kerli.
She's flipping awesome.

Oh gawd. I primarily listen to indie and a lot of the sub/crossover-genres in it, so most of the bands, groups and artists I love the masses have never heard of, aren't on radio or MTV, etc.

But some of them, like Phoenix for example, have been getting a lot of mainstream buzz lately. Arcade Fire is another good example since they won Album of the ****ing Year at the Grammys, and Death Cab for Cutie and Muse have gotten really popular with teenagers since the Twilight craze. And in recent years a lot of TV shows and commercials feature indie bands giving more light, so indie is getting... less indie, haha.

1. fly union - underground hiphop group
2. dondria - rnb singer
3. k michelle - rnb singer

and loads of rnb singers actually, who will never be big and that's cool
whenever they got a huge deal they turn to pop

Monte Negro which is a bilingual band (English & Spanish)...omg these guys really need more attention :yes!!!

I also really like the duo called La Roux but Idk if they'd be considered uncommon...they don't appear to be all that popular.

I've recently come to like some of Goldfrapp's music as well :yes.

Also..I do like some music of another duo called The Bird And The Bee.

That's all I can think of at the moment :think...

Kerli would probably be one of my top favorites too. She's just too awesome :love

Kate Nash, Florence and The Machine (though, Flo's gotten pretty popular lately), Ellie Goulding, Sia, Matt Nathanson, Regina Spektor, some others I'm sure. <3

I have two more to add...Ellie Goulding & Natalia Kills :yes...I just discovered them both & I'm soo addicted! :heart

My most fav is Swedish band The Knife. I hope some of you know them :)

I used to listen to indie very much, last time I was impressed by Vondelpark, Totally Enormous Extinct Animals and Teen Daze.

Jessica Mauboy, she is so underrated with such a brilliant vocal skill. she has collaborated with Jay Sean, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg and Flo Rida

The first music act that comes to mind is Dragonette. Their music is similar to the music that La Roux makes.

Also The Swell Season and Feist.

Maybe The Saturdays? They are not that well known internationally I think. But I'm soooo into their songs :D

Kanzaki 24th August 2011 07:30 AM

Oh God. I have a lot of those.

Kent, Veronica Maggio and [Ingenting] are my guilty, swedish pleasures. Kent is super popular/well-known in Sweden and Denmark, but not outside of Scandinavia. Same goes for Veronica, though she's only recently gained a lot of attention in Sweden, she was well-known here, but not really an awful lot. Hardly anyone knows of [Ingenting], no matter where you go.

Danish artists that aren't too well-known that I like includes Quadron (Blue-eyed soul) and The Kissaway Trail. Oh and I almost forgot ENTAKT. Omg, their first album is just one of those, where you don't want to skip a single track. Their songs are, literally, pure poetry.

I think those groups are the only two that aren't too well-known in or outside of Denmark.

Leaving Scandinavia behind, I love, love, love the french group Télépopmusik. Rocco Deluca & The Burden (which, I think, he's gone solo now and is just calling himself Rocco Deluca?) is absolutely amazing as well.

May add more if I suddenly think of someone that I forgot.

I do! The Knife are amazing too. José Gonzalez, another swedish artist made a cover of their song 'Heartbeats', that is just nothing short of breathtaking.

^ yes! I can't wait for a new stuff. their music never makes you tired of it.

also I forgot to mention these bands I used to listen very much: Norwegian Whitest Boy Alive and Kings of Convenience. they both haven't release a new album since 2009, so I'm looking forward to their new stuff too.

and also my fav is Australian Cut Copy.

btw I like Feist and La Roux too. it's strange not to see a new songs from La Roux though...

Dragonette :heart Feist :heart

but I think they're more popular now...idk most of the people I can think of, have gotten really popular. Even like Laura Marling and Sia.

I do like this crazy british artist M.I.A. She's not popular here in the states, but I think she really is overseas.

Oh, I :heart Kodomo, or Chris Child. One of my favorite mixers and electronic artists ever. I think he's probably the least known out of everyone I listen to. He just makes the best loungy, purely electro tracks.

I would say Kaskade...but after how big he's gotten, pff. Block Party Riot~

I also had a friend get me into The Herbaliser, Tricky, and Thievery Corporation <3

Oh, he's not that unknown, but I love Damian Marley :heart

I also love one of the bands a friend of mine started, Seven Ate Nine. They're gonna be big! Just wait, as soon as he gets out of USC with his contacts...lol

Also, Late Night Alumni, who I think are getting bigger because of Michelle Phan.

I need more music.

Violently Happy 24th August 2011 02:21 PM

Kerli she is so awesome!!! I have been following since her debut!!! Her music is really different! She also created her own style called Bubble Goth! People really need to check her out! :D

I love Kate Nash's music. I used to listen to Regina Spektor but I got bored, Florence + the Machine I would listen to but they seem like they'll have 1 song I'll like and once I get tired I'll stop listening to them.
