what is the correct title for A (song)

I'm a huge tag freak, I love to tag everything properly... so, here's my question :)

how should I tag "A" (found on avex 10th Anniversary Presents avex THE ALBUM)? some sites list it as 「A」, while others use 『A』... which is the correct title?

I would be grateful for an answer from someone who actually owns the CD and therefore could look it up for me :) thanks in advance.

wouldn't it be just A? 「」and 『』are just quotation marks in japanese, not part of the title.

Konomi 30th October 2011 12:10 AM

no, either of those is part of the title, I'm 100 % sure :) I just don't know which one

「A」 if you follow avex discography

I know these are quotation marks but in this particular case, they ARE part of the title :)

kinix: yeah, but every other site says 『A』, that's why I got confused and asked for help from someone who actually owns this CD... that would solve this confusing problem :) but thanks for your effort~

it's not clearly shown but I think it's 「A」

I can confirm with you once I get my copy =)

「」- 鉤括弧 (Kagikakko) - Simple quotation mark
『』- 二重鉤括弧 (nijuukagikakko) - Double quotation mark (mostly used in titles: books, CD's, etc)

Well, avex and the official m.c.A・T website list it as: 「A」.

Btw, the remix is tagged 「A」~La French mix~.

I always thought it was just A, no quotation marks. Seems kind of strange to use the quotation marks in a song title.

I think it's not unusual to japanese to use quotation marks on titles, examples

Aikawa Nanase -「THE END」
Hey! Say! JUMP -「Arigatou」-Sekai ni Doko itemo-
Morning Musume - 「...Suki da yo!」

Well. I feel quite sure that they don't tag the songs with the quote marks.

It's like I would tag all western songs with "song title" everytime... Also... If you would tag A like this; 「A」 then you probably need tag all her songs like that since they always write out songs like that in magazines e.t.c. to point out that it is a song. But the songs name is only A. Just like Mirrorcle World is just Mirrorcle World and not 「Mirrorcle World」 (even though that's how they write it in magazines all the time).

I believe『A』is the correct tag, I own the album.

It's using the letter "A" as a kind of reference point. Avex, Ayu, mcAT, hence the quotation.

Considering I'm sure Avex could care less about these minor 10+ year old songs on albums no one really purchased in the first place, there will be various tags for it. It just depends on which one you want to follow haha.

But like I said, the album itself has the double brackets.

My simple (and only) explonation would be this: it's the Japanese. They like to do things different :)

"A" itself has no expression whatsoever, but if you try to think of the title more as "the letter "A"" maybe it will seem more clear, to me it is. The title is closer to a concept than an actual word, so putting it into brackets makes sense.
(And excuse me not using the Japanese brackets, I'm too lazy)
