I met GOMI ^^

Not a biggie I know but I wanted to share this memory ^^

I decided that once I'm in Japan I'll visit his bar, I checked when it's open and went on Dec 29th.

Me and a friend of mine spent whole 5minutes in front of the door wondering what kind of bar will it be (knowing that Gomi is homosexual) and if we should enter at all, but after seeing lots of photos of him and his friends with kids there (on FB) I was pretty sure it won't be anything bad.

So we went inside, my friend went first (he speaks Japanese quite well) and Gomi was first person on the other side of the door and he (my friend) actually told him that we are looking for Tsuyoshi Otsubo, LOL (I wanted to just sit and have a drink, not telling immediately that I know him).

I must have told my friend something like 'yes, it's him' and I must have done it in my native language (Polish) because I head "Gorąco zapraszamy" (You are most welcome) from the inside of the bar !!! O_O

My attention immediately switched to the other barman who was (as we found out few minutes later) half Japanese half Polish, my friend explained Gomi in Japanese that I know him (Gomi) and we wanted to visit him and his bar (he didn't realize someone spoke our native language), a third barman joined the discussion thinking we may want to speak English and we all started talking.

So we ordered some drinks and had small talks with each of them, mostly with the polish speaking guy (Jan) but Gomi was also asking some typical questions from time to time like where are we from, etc. He couldn't believe someone from Poland would come especially to visit his bar. Among the most interesting things, he told us that he's going to watch CDL performance on the 30th, we drank his signature drink (something with chocolate), also at one point he was peeling kiwi and he didn't know how, he told us it's his first time, we had some good time :)

My friend isn't interested in Ayu so when I first told him I want to visit one of her former dancers he wasn't crazy about it but he said afterwards that he didn't expect Gomi to be so nice and down to earth / modest-shy but outgoing at the same time (hard to describe but you know him, he's just like on the stage in a positive 'non-celebrity' way).

The bar itself is a room size (one room actually, very small), there were maybe 5 other people there. We talked mostly with Jan, we were interested about his background, it's very unusual to meet Polish person in Japan.

I actually asked if I can take a pic (meaning with Gomi) but Gomi said we can take pics of the bar but not of him (neither with him, he didn't say it but so I assumed), and Jan explained that Gomi doesn't want Ayu fans to come just because of him (my bad...) but if I come often or get him really drunk he will probably agree ;) Unfortunately, we didn't want to spend to much time there and left after two hours or so.

I will definitely go back there next time I'm in Japan, the adress is on his FB page, not that difficult to find but the obvious conclusion to my trip is that you better go there for some drink, not as Ayu/Gomi fan ;)

That's so cool! It sounds like you had an awesome time. :) Going to Sweetback is on my bucket list for sure, but I'm waiting until my Ayu BFF and I are in Tokyo together in June. ;)

"and Jan explained that Gomi doesn't want Ayu fans to come just because of him"

so rude lol

Why is that rude? It sounds like he has a nice place; he deserves to be successful based on his own merits, and not the fact that he used to be a back dancer for a famous singer.

SKYia 2nd February 2015 09:59 PM

I guess he just doesn't want a situation where a fan (or fans) comes into the bar, asks for a photo together and goes out, rather than enjoy a drink or two, but judging how he posts lots of photos with different people, if you hang out there a few times and become kid of 'friend' (and spend some cash on drinks - bussiness is bussiness) it's ok.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 2nd February 2015 10:42 PM

It is rude. No pics? Who are you, Gomi? Are you the pope? Are you Madonna? If anything, I'd go in there, surely order a few drinks, and see him, but I would also want a pic with him.

I understand if people come to see him and don't buy anything. But you guys were there for two hours. You ordered things. It's disrespectful.

Andrenekoi 2nd February 2015 11:04 PM

So good that he is nice! But...

Nope. AHS doesn't have homophobic people, not at all. Really, only because he is gay doesn't mean everything related to him will be a gay bdsm orgy ¬¬ What the fuck?!

You don't own people just because you are a fan of their former boss or because you spend some money at their bar, nor do people owe you shit just because of it. Acting like he MUST take a pic with you for whatever reason your sense of entitlement filled mind made up? Now, that's rude.

I don't think getting someone to take a pic with their FAN means they own them. It's not like anyone is putting a leash around his neck. I'd only be going there BECAUSE he's ayu's former dancer. So the money I would hypothetically spend in his bar, only got to him because of ayu. So he should be thankful for that. IT'S CALLED GRATITUDE.

I wonder if this bar would be doing the same amount in sales if he was unknown? Actually, scratch that, I wonder where he got the money to open the bar in the first place. From ayu.

It's like being known for selling the worlds best ice cream, but then suddenly, you want to open up a pizza shop and get mad when people come in asking for ice cream. Sorry, no. Be grateful that YOU HAVE FANS WHO WANT TO COME SEE YOU. One photo for paying guests isn't going to hurt anyone.

Also, if you haven't noticed, MONEY RULES THE WORLD. Patrons are who pays his salary and allows him to stay in business. I'm sure gomi was polite about it and I'm not questioning that, but at the end of the day, if you are in the spotlight, or well known, you have an obligation to your fans, because they are the ones who keep you in said spotlight. I know all of this may not apply to gomi specifically, but it's still true. I stand by my opinion. It's a photo. BFD.

At the end of the day it's his decision. I just try to put myself in the same position. I'd like to think I'd have no problems taking pics with fans. I think we all know that ayu would never do that.

Chibi-Chan 2nd February 2015 11:39 PM

Agree with Andrenekoi.

And what the fuck are people expecting of a gay bar? A gay bar is like every other bar - there are just more gay people inside than you would find in other bars. And most likely there is just one toilette for women. lol Oh and the scene magazines lying out there often have Britney on the cover. xD But this is already the most cliché thing you will find - at least in Germany.
I used to go a lot to gay bars to date a guy. I would still go there if I wouldn't think of him when going there... -.-

Pieces_of_SEVEN 2nd February 2015 11:42 PM

I'm not taking sides on the gay bar issue; HOWEVER, I will say that gay clubs can be a bit...rowdier than other bars. Half naked or almost-naked men dancing, drag shows, etc. I've never been to one straight club where everyone was not fully dressed. Lol

With that being said, if you are afraid of half-naked men dancing and trying to have a good time, or drag queens, then maybe that is considered homophobic. :/

NintendoHTF1242 2nd February 2015 11:45 PM

But Go-Mi is such a babe. Shoulda gotten him drunk so you coulda gotten that picture lol.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 2nd February 2015 11:47 PM

^I know, I was curious to see what he's looking like these days, and then I didn't see a photo in the thread and I was like, huh? Lol

Clubs yes, but bars? All gay bars I visited (and that are quite a lot) were totally normal bars. Just more gay men as guests and the bars displaying a rainbow flag.

lol you're right...I don't know why, but for that previous post, in my brain, bar and club were synonymous with one another.

^gif saved! xD

Haha yes, that's what we were criticising. The post made it look as if gay men were synonymous with sex orgies. There are some crazy gay clubs out there - but there are also some crazy hetero clubs out there. As well as there are normal gay clubs and normal hetero clubs. Depends on where you're going. ;)

who is Gomi?
I recognize people's face better than people's name.

RealLight 3rd February 2015 01:02 AM

I didn't know he was gay o_O

This is so cute :luv2

He probably doesn't want to take photos with fans and make it too much about Ayu because he doesn't want his friend Ayu to get the impression that he's taking advantage of their friendship/her fame by having fans come and visit his bar and have him profit from that. I would feel the same way and down play it too.

douggn 3rd February 2015 04:24 AM

I would go there not because ayu is my fav but because he was my fav dancer. I loved his comical part in her shows.

And it's his prerogative to be confortable or to feel like taking photos with strangers or not. And he prefers not.

Also, citing something that is repeated kind a lot through this forum, we are Ayu fans, not her team fans. Gomi wasn't the popstar, he was a suport dancer, the spotlight wasn't on him nor was he the one that made people watch the concerts.

And even if he was on the spotlight, he could still feel like not having a bunch of strangers taking picutes with him, on the same way Ayu is entitled to that. Being fans and paying for her music or concerts or whatever doesn't mean she owes you something she isn't willing to give.
