Southern All Stars will be performing at this year's Kouhaku in celebration of their 40th anniversary

The last time they performed in Kouhaku was 4 years ago while it will be the 1st time in 35 years SAS will perform in NHK Hall for the event itself

Well, BNK48 (sister group of AKB48 in Thailand) is going to appear with AKB48 this year...

Hotei Tomoyasu-san will be teaming up with Ishikawa Sayuri & both artistes will be performing Amagi Goe together in this year's Kouhaku

For Hotei-san , this will be his 1st time in 12 years appearing in Kouhaku . Back in 2006 , he performed alongside with his wife Imai Miki on the show

So I guess this year Hotei-san will not be spending the new year in London x) and he really should work with ARASHI again in the near future , same thing with Kuriyama Chiaki

For me, the red team lineup is more appealing to my music taste than the white team.

Sarah Brightman will be performing with X JAPAN's YOSHIKI in this year's Kouhaku

The last time Sarah performed on Kouhaku was back in 1991 :O

This time round , Sarah will perform Miracle that YOSHIKI wrote & composed

Yonezu Kenshi is a last minute addition to the lineup as he originally rejected NHK's invitation to perform at Kouhaku but now he will be performing at the event but not physically at Tokyo's NHK Hall but rather at his hometown in Tokushima

Oh, that's a big surprise!
Going to be his first TV performance ever.
Clever NHK to lure him with a performance in his hometown.
Rumour has it he has some kind of autism, but maybe he's just very shy and introverted.
Though he does performances on his own regularly, just not on a large scale.
He's going to embark on his first arena tour next year.

I downsized Kouhaku overnight to .mp4 , going to cut the file up to smaller parts for myself while I give the whole show to my sister for safekeeping :D

I heard this year's Kouhaku ratings are better than last year's - Kanto ratings show 37.5% first half and 41.5% second half, up from 35.8% and 39.4% respectively.

Any reasons why?

And this was the first Kouhaku to be broadcasted in 4K to homes (compared to earlier iterations) and 8K, right?

Last year was the final Kouhaku aired during the Heisei era so I'm not surprised the ratings were slightly better as compared to 2017

And also not surprised how high ratings were when Southern All Stars performed & concluded Kouhaku . They're still well respected & last year was also their 40th anniversary too
