What category are Ayu's songs in?

I've been polishing my collecting of Ayu mp3s... and I found out that most of them wasn't properly 'tagged'. So I proceed put in the year, album and so on so forth with an mp3 tagger. Until I got to the category part.

That stumped me. I just didn't know what category they were "officially" in. In my mp3s some where rock, some jpop, and some even had 'unique' as the category. Well for now I just categorize them as 'Ayu' (^___^)... but do they have any real category? Are all the songs in one category or does each song has its own?

Ayu is multi-facet. I think don't get too caught up with genre labelling, some songs obviously don't just fit in one genre, genres are just rough guidelines for us to give a description of things, some songs obviously have different elements taken from different genres ;)

I'm pretty sure that they consider her to be J-Pop... but she's more than that. She's got several different genres of music. :thumbsup

I also just categorize her songs as "J-Pop", although I may put something like Ayu-Trance as "J-Trance". I categorize things by titles/CD names, instead of by genre :)

that's why i love her music.

yea ayu music is just ayu .. lol

but i think its mostly j-pop cuz ... its definitely not rock but then again its not SUPER pop-ish and happy all the time

i donno .. *shrugs* ..its hard to label things like that

Hmmm my mistake, I should've made it clearer. What I meant was 'Genre'. I too, organize my mp3s by album. But in the ID3 tags, there are labels like 'Artist', 'Album', 'Year' and so on so forth. I didn't know what to enter in the 'Genre' field. In ID3v1, you were unable to type in your own genre so I changed all of them into J-pop.

Recently I found out that in ID3v2, you can type in your own genre! So now I'm labeling all her songs "A-pop" (^___^)

I say 'pop' cause pop it's such a broad genre... I dont ever bother with the 'j' part. broad is good... uh... yeah...

Most songs, though if I'd never heard any of her other music I'd label her as a rock singer if the only song I'd ever heard was "Because of You".

Eventhough she did many styles, I would put her in "jpop" or "pop" category. It's not bubble-gum pop though ;)

Apekuz 22nd May 2004 06:21 AM

Bubble gum pop? That's something I've never heard before... care to relieve me? (^__^)

kournikova 22nd May 2004 06:37 AM

j-pop... or all age music coz i think from young to old can listen to ayu :))

Calico 22nd May 2004 07:42 AM

All my music from Japan I label as "J-pop". (Yes, even Gackt, Nanase, Shiina, and English OLIVIA) But it's mostly because so I can tell my Japanese music from all my other music.
