Reason for all this hype?
 

It`s pretty obvious that you guys all love Ayumi Hamasaki. I myself am a fan of the music videos for Inspire and Ourselves. But I was just wondering if she`s got anything going for her other than a pretty face and a good voice. Does she write her own songs? I doubt it, but I totally respect the artists who write their songs. Anyway, just some input on what`s so cool about Ayu would be nice.

sure.... a prove from me that she writes her own songs when she sings Who... on her concert.... she always crying :)

She pens all her songs with a few exceptions and has composed/co-composed well over a dozen of her own songs. But I don't see what makes you doubt that she's capable of writing her own songs.

First off, welcome to the forum. Second, how long have you been a fan of her? If you've checked some of her CDs and noticed something like "words by CREA", that would be her pen name for some of her stuff. Next, how many Ayu songs have you heard? While I'm not sure of an exact number, there must be close to 1000 actual Ayu songs spreading across an assortment of genres. Ballads, Eurobeat, Trance... you name it! Check out the Ayu Downloads section for some mp3s. As for what's cool about her, I think her style is what sets her apart from others. Some call her a "chameleon" because of her ever-changing styles. One moment, she's dressed in some dress, and the next, she's got on some leather outfit like she did in her recent "GAME" PV.

I guess I could go on about her for a while, and I'm not trying to say that Ayu's perfect, but just check her out yourself. You may like what you see and hear.

Ey I didn`t say I didn`t like her. I just want to know more about her. I only know about her because I came to Japan and have been staying here for a month. I`ve heard a few of her songs and music videos on TV and liked her style, but I`ve never been a fan of pop, so I was hesitant. I don`t have any of her CDs or anything. It`s nice to hear that a pop singer writes their own songs. That`s quite rare.

This won't help you get into her much, but...I'm sort of getting sick of/over her. Recommended albums to buy/download would be 'Loveppears', 'I am' and 'Memorial Address' to get an idea of her music.

ayumi's got a lot of talent actually, and when u get into her and read about everythign, its pretty hard to pull out, lol. well i guess omega and everyone has already summed it up, but please do stick around.

i think i like ayu so much bcoz she has so much emotion and soul and she just POURS it out into every song she sings. all her lyrics are really deep and meaningful, just compare them with any english lyrics u hear on the american charts and u'll agree - she is far superior to the rest. some ppl dont care about deep stuff, intellectual stuff, emotional stuff, but i do. also, i really respect her and revere her, and can u BELIEVE she is so pretty?! i barely can. and its such a huge achievement that she has turned herself into a product that has turned out to be the most popular thing in japan. she's everywhere in japan - so many ads, so many songs, so so many magazines, all the time. that's really something. and the way she changes her style, not only fashion but music-wise, makes her forever refreshing, never repetitive, never boring. and that's just the beginning of my explanation of y i love ayu :) (in a fav artist way, not in a gross way like some guys here...) o and also, bcoz she's not a sex symbol like beyonce or britney spears - she's not selling her body, she's selling pure musical talent

Her music is beautiful, and her PVs are just more then that, specially when she puts all that emotion into them (I.E. Hanabi II).... such a moving PV.. :tipsy :)

Let me just ask everyone here; why do you love Ayumi Hamasaki, and what is it about her that rocks your socks? Is it her PVs, her music, just her in general? What? :mischief

I have the answer to the question Why ayu ? I really like this explanation.

I really have to go along with this explanation... I'm a Dutch caucasian so it may seem quite obvious that I cannot understand most of her lyrics (except when reading the translations) but somehow you can really feel the dept in her songs..

and yeah, ayu is very very talented in many things and besides all these things she is also very cute ^^ (but ok thats not the main part for me being a fan of her)

More.. I alone have 1070 sound files of Ayu :| And I don't have everything
