CAROLS not CCCD

Feel free too move/merge this, just was't sure where to put it, but I thought its kind of important.

Bought my copy of CAROLS today, and without thinking popped it into my laptop expecting the stupid little CCCD player to open, instead, iTunes opened. I was then able to import the songs onto my computer.

Now, while I'm not promoting mp3 downloading/trading etc, I found this to be quite interesting that CAROLS doesn't appear to have copy protect. It's not written anywhere on my packaging, obi, cd at all.

I remember someone mentioning that Avex was starting to selectivly copy control CDs. Is this the start of it I wonder?

CCCD = copy control cd

basically its what keeps people from taking songs off of cds and putting them on their computer and posting them for download.

hey do you mind uploading the songs? I'd like to hear the full version of the remixes before buying :)

weijie22 28th September 2004 12:42 PM

oh i see
but even if it is cccd
it is no use right
...
people will still break it..

tl1029530921 28th September 2004 01:13 PM

OH..SO aYU WONT BE using CCCD from now on..cool..^^..thx

luminaire 28th September 2004 01:21 PM

Yeah, it's the start. Avex mentioned that all releases after 22nd Sept would be copy-protected at the discretion of the artist and producer.

ImpactBreaker 28th September 2004 04:10 PM

Yep By choice of ayu and her producer her cds doesn't seem to have copy protection anymore.

ohsixthirty 28th September 2004 04:33 PM

Thank God, this will make it so much easier to play, as my cd player is very selective of which CCCD's it will play.

weijie22 28th September 2004 04:37 PM

dont know it is good or bad

EijiroSan 28th September 2004 04:41 PM

CCCDs are easy to rip anyway... Doesn't make any difference at all, to me. I've personally never had any problems with playing or ripping CDs with copy protection.

Nu-NRG 28th September 2004 04:48 PM

i don't really see the point of CCCD...you can still ripped it even with it
hopefully some big changes is on the way

Unimatrix Prime™ 28th September 2004 04:53 PM

To the casual ripper with limited knowledge on it, CCCD may have been a bit tough to crack, so I'm sure that CCCD worked in some aspect (or else Avex would've abandoned it ages ago). As I said in a thread about this some time ago, Avex had noted that the awareness in piracy has risen and they concluded that artists would have the option to implement it or not.

Exactly.

Tasked 28th September 2004 06:09 PM

well at least now they save money that they hopefully use in the future releases

leafyamazaki 28th September 2004 06:53 PM

That's great to hear.
Now if only SONY would do the same...
~yeah, LabelGate CD/CD2 is kinda annoying.

I could say that's true for me too, but the only CDs I did have a problem ripping were BoA's LOVE&HONESTY (Overseas Version) and My Name (Korean) albums. I was so pissed, it took me forever to get the music off of those CDs.

Nessa 28th September 2004 10:15 PM

THANK GOD. I HATE those stupid mini-players Avex always puts on her CDs. THey frequently crash my computer should I want to listen to one while I'm doing stuff. I think this is a God Send.

Calico 29th September 2004 02:12 AM

Wow, that's interesting. I can't say I've ever had a problem ripping the tracks, (then again I've never tried =P) but it's still interesting to see Ayu choose not to these days.

matt 29th September 2004 07:34 AM

Although, today I went to a CD rental shop, and saw CAROLS there, and it had Copy Protection warnings all over it like usual. Maybe rental CDs will have CCCD from now, while regular ones wont.

Does anyone have their hands on a copy yet to confirm it doesnt have the CCCD?

lolo66 29th September 2004 08:41 AM

None of the copy right scheme works on CDs, they're all crackable one way of another. Unless you really hard code all the stuffs, and costs for revamping the entire industry standards and infrasture is just not good business
