[2004] J-pop in Walmart?
Yeah so I'm hanging out in Walmart, cause it's my favourite store, and I go to the CD section, and there before the 'A's in rock+pop, there are two CDs with different color labels... and they woud be Puffy Amiyumi and Nami Tamaki. I was very suprised!! But alas no Ayu. But in Walmart? Yeah I thought so too. So who is Nami Tamaki? Because her CD looked interesting. And at 13.99, I could afford to be a little curious. But Walmart?? Wow. Cool.
|
Ayu .. wouldn't be in Wal-Mart.. sorry. She's not signed onto any International/American record label :(
Nami Tamaki is with Tofu Records, the company that is attempting to make Japanese music popular in America. She's a good singer, her stuff is a lotta trancey/dance/pop music.. it's very good, I recommend it :) Puffy Ami Yumi just came to America for a tour in California and New York.. otherwise, I'm not really into their music :laugh |
Yep. But my Walmart wouldn't have have any of it. My walmart didn't have EXODUS..or the new Tamagotchi's. But you go to the Walmart 45 minutes away and they have them.
I kinda want Nami Tamaki though. |
Puffy AmiYumi has two American released albums, that's probably what you saw.
|
i always find this artist named "Keiko Matsui" her covers are boring

How jazzy is she?

I keep looking for T.M.Revolution around here, since he's signed on to Tofu, but to no avail. I don't really like enough of Nami's stuff to buy it. I've never actually heard anything by Puffy. What kind of music are they?
|
wasnt l'arc en ciel suppose to release their "SMILE" album in america. Just a though i remembered on their website
|
They did release SMILE in the US.
|
yeah and its nowhere to be found here :P, anyways, i found a puffy yumi album in sam goody about a month ago, it was a pink cover, very very bright cover
|
Puffy aren't with TofuRecords, that's why you can find their albums, even I can. But, I can't find any releases from TofuRecords (not sure if they even do Canadian releases), or in the States. And Ive talked to plenty of Americans that havent been able to find Tofu releases.

lol Walmart kicks ass!!
everythings 5 dollars cheaper at walmart than target :yes |
that's where all the kids are getting their clothes :yes
|
I've never been to Target before... but I'm such a Walmart fan. They all look the same so I can always find what I'm looking for. Yesterday I bought licorice.
|
Keiko Matsui is light chilly jazz type.
Wal-Mart is always better than Target. |
OMG, i heard some of (this) Keiko Matsui's music like a month ago, and I thought that it was strange (piano?). Why? Because I assumed it was Keiko Matsui, the lead singer from globe.
|
Keiko of globe's last name is Yamada, not Matsui. Keiko's a common japanese name for girls, best not to assume anything about who it is. Kinda like the name Hitomi. :P~
Here is a short list of singers that have released things in the states (it's incomplete, but at least this is quite alot of them): Seiko Matsuda Toshi Kubota Ken Ishii DJ Krush L'arc~en~Ciel Pizzicato Five Puffy (AmiYumi) Tamaki Nami X-Japan Dreams Come True T.M. Revolution Utada Compilations like Tofu Records' Neo Soul have other artists like Crystal Kay and Ken Hirai, and the soundtrack for the animated american movie Heavy Metal 2000 has the song "Inside the Pervert Mound" by Zilch, one of Hide's bands. Also, puffy have three albums in the US. "An Illustrated History", a best-of that was only released for the american audience, and US versions of their albums "Spike" and "Nice". |
