Can anyone explain what the alterna PV is about?

Can anyone explain what the PV is about? Me and Rody [T-N] thought it was related to the article about Ayu and Avex and it seemed like, I quote Rody, "Dearest PV all over again"; rumours, bad stuff, and then a PV that explains everything. Now I'm not too good at this, but I know there's a meaning behind the "Singing machine", the white Ayu, the parts of Ayu [mouth, eye] in those monitors, but I don't know what exactly. Can anyone tell me? Really want to know :yes

The PV is about that Ayu is only a product of ***(probably Avex) and that she´s just being used by them and at last when she is of no use anymore she will end up at the garbage can, at least that is what I can think of ^^

SunshineSlayer 21st July 2005 02:10 PM

That's pretty much it. Also I think it's about that despite the fact that she has 7 albums with all the lyrics written by her and much of the music, she is still viewed primarily as an "Idol" not a artiste/song writer.

At first I was like, "WTF, why is this song being paired w/ fairyland? They don't match at all." I think that's the POINT. They don't match at all because fairyland is a "singing machine" song - something that is more pleasing the masses, the cute mass market Ayu that people expect her to be and then Alterna throws all that right out the window.

What do you think the eyeball in Ayu's mouth means? And the white-painted Ayu? My thoughts: the puppet Ayu is how Avex presents her, but the white Ayu is her wild side, the real Ayu within the 'singing machine'.
Or something like that, lol :D

If you watch the NTV interview of 2004, they say that at one stage, we did not knew ayu anymore. Ayu was too far away from us. Then a PV explained all these things. That PV was dearest (she's ayu there too, she wants to grab a glass but then her 'staff' get it FOR her...how she feels as a star).. hence the link...

[AHS]MortalSex 21st July 2005 04:30 PM

Yupp, after I saw that interview I started to realize many things in her songs and PVs it was like an upgrade ^^ so I can hear/see another side of Ayu now, though most of the interview was about sad things but they said it themselves in the interview "She´s not going to run anymore she´s going to struggle against her past self" And that´s how my sign came to ^^ (couldn´t sleep that night thinking of how she lived)

Seems like a mix og Dearest + ourselves...
But the PV reminds me on Madonna´s "Bedtime Story" PV (a friend send it to me^^), especially the eyball in her mouth.

That sounds like a good explanation. I also agree with Rody!.

Personally, I didn't understand the [point of this] PV. It made no sense to me, and weirded me out at some points. And I thought ourselves was a little 'different'. :innocent

Not too sure what the eyeball means - but I just noticed that the Ayu with the eyeball!tongue also has her eyes closed. Think that could be tied together?

As for "fairyland" being the. . ."singing machine" song. . .could that be tied in with the fact that she's been performing "fairyland" instead of "alterna"? o_o

Thank you guys for explaingin the meaning but I just want to say something about alterna do you pewple reliaze that this is ayu's FIRST title that is NOT in english? isn't alterna latin or somethin? this is kind of big if really think about it. It's her very FIRST title that's not in english... Isn't that kind of Amazing... lol sorry it just realy surprised me...

stardusties 21st July 2005 08:57 PM

~Amy~ 21st July 2005 09:11 PM

Oh yeah! DUH!!! *smacks herself on the head* damn...
sorry. *feels really stupid*
Yeah this PV is really wierd...

stardusties 21st July 2005 10:47 PM

It's not weird, it's just surreal with a deep meaning. >>;

Teh Rii-Sama 21st July 2005 11:34 PM

. . .Same thing?

sasuke-kun 21st July 2005 11:47 PM

Uh...
i do not agree with the fact that it's a pv against her company, :no
i think it's more a pv to show how stupid some tabloids are, don't you see all of her facial expression during the "puppet" scenes? i think it's so ironik...
why a girl like her would make so much smiles to a guy who's looking like a serial killer?
and in the first seen you see at the bottom of the screen "hopes to be a star"
doesn't that sentence rings any bells? at the very first she never wanted to be a star it's max matsuura who came after her...
well that's only my point of view ^^ (sorry for the english) :wave

quote from asongforxx @ T-N:

Ayumi released her new PV yesterday (or was it today?). It's called "alterna". The PV is sick, freaky, shocking, crazy, disturbing, weird, different, scary but mostly, it's deeply symbolic. Basically, it's about Ayu herself. Being discovered, becoming a big star, soon becoming a "singing machine". She's being controlled and manipulated by the industry. Then being dumped by her record company. In real life, her record company, Avex Trax, wants to get rid of Ayu and even fire her. Rumors say that most of the people that works there hate Ayu. They even tried to replace Ayu with Ami Suzuki, BoA and even Ai Otsuka. In conclusion, Ayu is big. Really big. So big, not even her own record company can get rid of her. After all, she IS the j-pop queen, since forever.

This PV truly shows Ayu feelings about this whole record company problem. The PV is really amazing. The whole concept is like a play. It has that carnivale feeling. You might even get scared just watching the PV. Yes. Scary clowns (representing the media, record company and such). Eyeball in Ayu's mouth. It's scary. But it shows another side of Ayu. Her darkess side. If you thought "ourselves" was too much, you'll be impressed by "alterna". It's a deep and powerful PV. With a BIG message. People often know Ayu as this super cutesy j-pop kogal. If you are used to this image, you'll be shocked. Really shocked.

I think the eyeball represents that "people" (aka: Avex and the people calling the shots behind closed doors) are watching her mouth as well as her actions.

At times I used to think Ayu would draw us a little closer to her world if only she weren't being "watched" so hard by people who are trying to destroy her career. I also used to think that it was just my imagination thinking that. But after watching videos like "Dearest", "ourselves" & many of her other deep videos; just looking at the screencaps for "alterna" is making me realize that she's not just some ordinary singer singing about what other people want her to. She's got control, power and influence; the three things that make most people who have powers of their own feel threatened.

I think part of it is about, people can be lured so easily by thinking they've won something big in their life, and the media can be quite misleading (?). You can be a "singing machine" metaphorically speaking, but here they translated it literally. Since she was "so good" at singing, and that was all she was good for anyway they made her into a machine that does nothing but singing (based on the concept of trap and deception, and I think the eye in the mouth also has something to do with this), and be exposed (chest being open (?)) to the media. Eventually others try to copy her, and when there's already bootlegs of her that can do exactly the same thing, the original isn't needed anymore. I don't understand the fan in the beginning, the tamborine, and the horny boy peeking under the girl at the end. Just some initial impressions
that's what I posted in the Alterna PV download thread. Actually I think the tamborine is a symbol of her fighting back despite all the negative stuff that's revolving around her nowadays. White often represents purity, so perhaps the white ayu is her true self?

I really want to buy 'fairlyland' CD+DVD OS just for this song and PV, but I expect it's going to be on the CD+DVD for her next album, so why bother? :P

Very cool, symbolic PV though. I really like it. :)

Endlessoul 22nd July 2005 06:33 AM

I think we all over-focus on the relation between ayu and AVEX...after all,ayu is still in AVEX...=P ...I think it just shows us sth dark...4example ............................
and, I think when the singing machine became popular, the company started to produce it in large amounts...they research into ayu's eyes, mouth, nose...etc.

JUST a world where fame is the most important huh...XD
